  • love this song !!

  • anyone know what city this was made?

  • @jazzblue87 Tis in fact Mr John Oates, take a look at August Day on youtube part 2!!!!

  • Absolutely perfection.......

  • Love this. ♫♪

  • Inspirational! Hall & Oates with David Foster producing!

  • An absolutely beautiful way to close out a very fine album!

  • Thomas Lang has just released a beautiful cover version of this, available to download on iTunes. Check it out xx

  • This really shows that Daryl Hall is not just some pop MTV artist, people should really check out all the material that they have done. Rather then being known for songs like Maneater.

  • D H fix part 2

  • I love this song! Why don't make a movie of it?

  • good ol' August day...

  • Ahhh back in the days when the artists chosen by record companies had exceptional world class talent..... Where are they all now?

  • Its from Along the red ledge late 70s and is a brilliant track by a brilliant singer - thank you

  • This is a really nice song of Hall&Oates. Thank you for share it.

  • A wonderful recording! My money's on Toots Thielmann for the chroma' harp solo...

  • @wackernie2009 It really does sound like Toots!

  • Oh my.Wow.I wanna hug someone

  • A great song for a film - Darryl sings even better live than on record. Great song thank you

  • NO, that is Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica, David Foster produced this album, All Along the Red Ledge.

  • was it fuck !! do your home work !

  • I first heard this in August 1985...as I my first serious girlfriend and I were breaking up. I left for college about a week later, quit smoking, cold turkey, on the way down and leaned heavily on this song to get over and back.

  • Does anyone know who plays the harmonica on this?

  • Les Thompson on chromatic harmonica

  • I can't believe someone posted this! I haven't heard this in years! I am on a mission now to find this on CD and load it into my MP3! I have always loved this song. So haunting and smooth.

  • Buy the box set that came out a couple of months ago - it includes this track and is an amazing collection. Seriously: it will blow your mind.

  • This is one of those songs that could have been either a Todd song or an H&O song. It reminds me a little of "I dont want to tie you down" from A Wizard A True Star (other than the harp solo, which I can take or leave).

  • God this should be in a movie! Deep and emotive. Brilliant

Darryl Hall sings even better live than he does on record (Albert Hall London 1980)

  • Just love these guys...True music writers and composers.. This song is a Daryl Hall standout on the "along the red ledge album.

  • Great record no doubt, one of my favourtes.

  • "Along the red ledge"...what a great album..brings back a flood of memories...

  • That's the great Les Thompson on chromatic harmonica--

He is featured on a double album with Toots, where he plays all jazz standards. You can find it at Amazon.

  • Classic, inspired Daryl Hall composition. Beautiful song with great David Foster production, just wish it was longer! Does anyone know who played the harmonica solo? Toots?

  • Love! Love! Love! This song, Thanks for your post.

  • I danced to this on my wedding night !!!

Enough said about that sorry fucking state of bulshit !!!!!!

Great song still !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hall and Oates are such great song writers

  • Have loved this tune for many years, since I bought the album AND still have it in my possession.

  • what's the name of this album?

  • "Along The Red Ledge" released over 30 years ago!

  • In a world of over-produced music, hearing a song like this again is very refreshing. Thanks for sharing it!

  • exelente¡

  • I was realy impressed by this Moovie. Why did you use the pictures of 'Shinjuku'.

  • I didn't know it was pics of a Japanese city. The lyrics don't specifically say where he is. They travelled alot through their career. Why not Japan? Thanks, now I've envisioned the song a different way :)

  • the best... hall & oates

  • Had agreat time making out to this song back in the day. Thanks for posting this song Yea!

  • (off topic)But can someone tell me why is the discussion forum not active on the H&O website?

  • I can feel the gray day with the love of your life going on with life with out you. So long ! Thank You for posting this song.

  • off "Along The Red Ledge" 1978. Isn't it wonderful? Thank you posting it

  • yeah ... beautiful song and a beautiful time ... take that chance and see where it leads you to

  • when it's hot and cloudy in summer with this song...

  • Really my friend.. you can see the song.. when i close my eyes it cames a pic like yours. Thanks a lot for this song

  • Very Coooooool !! :D

  • This the most wonderful song It's the kind of song that makes you want to scream at the top of my lungs and from the tallest building that's why this group won the song writers award, awesome!

  • This is really a great song, one of their best

  • One of their underrated gems. And Les Thompson with a cool harmonica solo.

  • FALLING IS ALSO A GREAT SONG

  • Althou this song never made the charts The poetry in the lyric is timeless...

When I was in the Army on weekends I would sip on some Absolut Vodka & tonic water while listening to this song

  • Proof of Daryl being one of rock's greatest vocalists, yes!.. but also proof of his mezmerizing poetic talents. Along the Red Ledge contains some of Daryl and John's best storytelling and poetry. Way overlooked album.

  • A poor man's Laughing Boy but i guess it's all about opinions

  • I think maybe you don't get it; this song doesn't sound anything like Julian Cope if that's what you are talking about. This is more of a white R & B song with jazzy chord changes, that song is a droning english new-wave dirge.

  • Beautiful song.. haven't heard this for a while as i've only got it on vinyl. Thank you.

    Any more oldies ??

  • Thank you! Love this song!

  • Can you give me 2 songs (Melody of a Memory and Crazy Eyes) please? I would appreciated that. Thanx for the video and that beautiful song.

  • Here, here...CRAZY EYES is without a doubt one of their greatest hits, that wasn't a hit.....absolutely awesome song. Matter of fact, I've got a 2 CD Greatest Hits project of theirs, that has all their biggest songs collection you'd ever want. EXCEPT, Crazy Eyes is so good, I paid full cd price for another of their "hits" projects, just so I could have it to listen too.....worth every penny.

  • Old song from Hall and Oates still fresh was when it was released! Many years ago.

  • One of my favorite H&O songs:)

  • These guys were such good song writters and Hall was a very underrated vocalist. Still love em'....

  • One of my all time favorite Hall and Oates songs from my favorite album, Along the Red Ledge.

  • i play this song every august. thank you for pulling the images out of my head and putting it on youtube!

  • It's now Oct. 11, 2007, HAPPY 61st BIRTHDAY DARYL!!!

  • Reminds me of a rainy august day...

  • One of my favorite tunes...perhaps of all time.

  • Couldn't agree more. Thought I was the only one that ever heard this song.

  • It's a short, sweet song. August is the month I was born.
