  • I would have to say that both pedals sound great, are versatile and 'dynamic', and can accomplish 2 completely different tones.

The BP had more 'presence', headroom, clarity, and brighter high end/ mid range

Where as the LDO had a tendency to go a little bit muddier of a route (not to say that the tone couldnt be tweaked to change that) and had a thicker, fatter, and fuller crunch vs the BP which had more of a bright and crisp chunk. Both different, and I would have to get both to see which on

  • The RBP sound a bit fuller and more dynamic at certain settings but at the end put little drum and bit of bass around and no friggin' difference.

  • what is all this wvheired whowling noises?

  • Save me a piece of that corn, Jack Black!

  • I'd say the Rockbox, PLUS it's cheaper than the Landgraff by $100, and appears to be more versatile. No brainer there...

  • Rockbox is way skankier and looser

  • The only problem with this demo is that these are 2 completely different pedals. I work at a music store and we get Landgraffs and Rockbox pedals in. The Landgraff will sound just like the Rockbox and vice versa at points but not with the knobs in the same position. The parts used are going to have completely different tolerances. What I did notice is that the Rockbox was WAY louder from the get go.

  • Rockbox Boiling Point - louder, brighter, crisper, sounds more scooped compared to the LDO

Landgraff Dynamic OD - smoother, sounds mid'ier

    BOTH - sound equally amazing!

***as always, it depends on what other gear you're using, how all of your gear complements/works against each other, what sound you're looking for, how it feels, and what you're willing to pay***

  • bbbpppppp

  • Haha this LDO is on Ebay.. I see which one you liked better GMD!

  • I give it to the boiling point, if only i had $350

  • To me, the LDO sounded a liiiitle muddy compared to the Boiling Point, which had more clarity.

  • another great video jack! A + +

  • you are jack black

  • it's like asking me if i like apple or peach pie. the answer is yes, i like pie. I think the boiling point wins for rhythm stuff, as it seems to have more clarity for chunking down on chords, but i think the landy sounds great with leads, and i would love to hear it chunk out some leads with the neck pickup, as I think that's where it would really shine.

  • Boiling point wins because of 2:30

  • sssmmmELLLL IT.

  • I've played them both extensively. Either one is a fantastic pedal. I kept the Rockbox for various reasons, FWIW. It's my main drive pedal for heavy tones. Love it.

Great comparison, GMD. Love the switcher, awesome idea for YOU. Nice work again.

  • KILLER!

  • im surprised that no one has said anything about the one fulltone cable in the landgraff's loop. ITS NOT FAIR, THE LANDGRAFF WILL SOUND DIFFERENT! no it wont, its just a patch cable...

  • The BP has that 'I crushed a sheet of paper into a ball' sound.

The LDO has that 'I just poured water from a hose down a ten story building' sound.

    Know what I mean?

  • one of these from them haha.

  • 6:18 on the Boiling point takes the win for me... thick and juicy!

  • Let's stick an unwelcome third guest in for the next one - Bad Monkey! :D

  • How bout' gettin KG to demo some bass pedals :) LOVE whatcha' do

  • IMO, the gain structures are identical. The LDO has a little less mids which I prefer. The BP has more 'presence' and pushes the higher mids. The BP might be a little too bright pushing a loud amp....probably why the LDO sounds like it does. But both sound good if you like a Tubescreamer type sound.

  • why r u using that ab switch?

  • @SchelluS Keeps the signal pure (for those youtube audiophiles?) and makes it easier and faster to change between the two, so he can keep playing the riff without having to tapdance-change the pedal

  • @jimbo112358 thx for the answer.

  • Gearmanndude and the prick of destiny

  • Boiling Point FTW!!

  • GREAT SHOOTOUT VID!!!! THANKS GMD

  • I'm sure you can tinker with them a little but, the Rockbox sounds more open in the mids. The harmonics just ring through also. I'd love to have both though!!

  • Extremely similar, as expected.

  • @bloodySunday77 ...even though the Rockbox sounds more crisp in its mids. In any case, they can be dialed to sound identical.

  • Yawn.... Hey , you might try to get yourself a more oringinal name !

  • Rock Box has more mids, and sounds a little more crunchier.. But I would still get the LDO simply because the rock box is too damn expensive for a pedal

  • these pedals are very similar -nice warm & creamy. The BOSS SD-1 (super overdrive) comes to mind.

  • the rock box might better as a standalone however I have a feeling based on what I heard the the landy would be better in front of a healthy dirty amp to boost it into to tone heaven, just a hunch though...

  • neither

  • A little off topic, but I'm looking for a good clean tube amp (combo and cheap) that I can flavor with pedals, any suggestions?

  • @superlou1s jc 120

  • @superlou1s .. If you're really looking for CHEAP.. check out the Peavey Classics. Classic 30 if you want a 1x12 30 watt amp or Classic 50 for a 2x12/4x10 combo 50 watt amp.. BUT i would suggest to wait and save up for a nice amp.. unless your a beginner and these will do JUST fine! :D

    since this is gearmandude's page,

    rock!!!!

  • @superlou1s... Are 600 dollars still cheap??? I own a vox av 15c1 and it's a really good clean amp.

  • @superlou1s look for a used deluxe reverb, if your lucky you can find one for about 400. If its a new one you may want to upgrade the speaker. (so i'm told)

  • They both sound great and like an OD should. But I'll give the nod to the Rockbox Boiling Point because it sounds like it has just a touch more dynamic range and plus it looks like melted chocolate and caramel ice cream.

  • @1PUTTZ If by dynamic range you mean fizzy and thin then yeah, rock box sounds great. Sorta like a ds-1. I had a LDO and mind didn't sound near as mid rangy as this one.

  • @gregory49 I have both a DS-1 and BP, and they sound nowhere near the same. Not by sound (clipping, voicing and dynamics), and not by versatility. It's a great stand-alone pedal, but awesome when used as a boost as it keeps everything very dynamic.

  • were do you get all this equipment do people send it to you or what is the deal

  • almost the same, I'd go with the rockbox anyway

  • One of those two sounds better than the other.:):)

  • rockbox damn!!!

  • Boiling Point

  • rockbox

  • Rockbox for sure.

  • Yeah, they smell quite good!

But the Bolingpoint a little better :)

  • "smell it!"

    Such a legend!

  • They do not sound the same. The Boiling Point sounds to me like it had a bit more dynamics in the tone.

  • I feel all warm and fuzzy inside because I think I may have been the first person to watch this video ... so very fuzzy ....

  • I like the rockbox cuz it looks cooler :D

The rockbox seems to cut through a tad more with more high end.. But not much at all.

  • First! Awesome video as always! Love you GMD

    ROCK ON
