Question, I have a Class A CDL with tanker and Hazmat Endorcement but I don't have enough Experience to qalify so how do I get a job as a Truck driver?
@sideslide23 Go to Swift. They'll put you with a mentor for 6 weeks, then put you on the road. You'll get a small bonus for having a hazmat. Drive for Swift for 6+ months, then start looking for the company you want to work for. Schneider has a tanker fleet, and there are hundreds of small fleets around the country.
@sideslide23 i had the same problem i just got hired at a companie that is a major freight carrier and the good thing is its all local no runing the road home every night paid by the hr, i put over 100 applications in and got alot of denies or no return backs. it sucks to get ur cdl and know ones hires you. try TMC Transportaion they take students they have great eqipment and home time and they pay is good u can either get milage rate or, percent of the load witch is more then milage. good luck
@BeantownJim not unless you went to their Designated School otherwise you either pay $3900 to go to swift or go to Salt Lake City and get better deal with CR England
ok well i will let him know, im too am thinking about driving. really him and i have susppended licens and wont get them back till november. i do plan on geting my cdl's sometime next year.
question if someone who has susppended license for speeding in 09 but gets them back in 2010. can he get his cdl's and drive for a company if he's trying to start over.
@ATLPRINCE99 You're probably going to have to get 2 or 3 years of infraction-free driving before most companies will consider you... I'd honestly look at going with a small intermodal or grain-hauling company. They pay about the same (or a little better) and don't usually care as much about your driving history, as long as it's legal. Intermodal haulers also generally stay within 200 miles of "home", so you rarely have to log.
@59cva Sure Wish I Finished Training... Slow Wit In Fast Truck... and my favorite: why do they paint SWIFT on the trailers? So when the driver looks in the mirror, he remembers: Swing Wide, It's a F*ing Trailer!
I am at Swift Training Academy in Lewiston ID, and drove that exact same tractor, #304 just yesterday. It is a 2000 FreightLiner FLD, and it has been beat up pretty good. Here in Lewiston they have several of these old trucks that never leave the driving range. As newbie drivers, we beat them up pretty good!
@Ford390pwr, those FLD's were relaible and had something called gauges. Volvo trucks completely such. Old FLD, Kenworth, or Peterbuilt any day of the week. Something with non-computerized gauges please and powered windows.
@Ford390pwr Heh.... they told us they were being "retired". Didn't realize that meant "moved from San Antonio to Lewiston". :D I guess at least the cold kept the smell down...
what do you mean nicer that was a nice truck when it came out man my dad had one with a 500 hp cat and a 13 od bunkbeds sat tv microwave fridge fuck we did 121 mph in taht thing awesome trucks homely but aesome
put a reflector on the center of the trailer landing gear. Turn left and back up until you see the reflector, stop, turn all way right, back up until you see reflector, stop then left again. If you did this correct you will have just parallel parked a combo truck. At least thats the K.I.S.S. method.
yeah, Swift tried giving me a new Columbia which had issues, so I demanded they give me an FLD back instead of opting for a brand new truck. The FLD's could take a lot of punishment and go the distance before being pulled into the shop for maintenance. Sad that Swift had to junk the FLD's and what not, but the issue to day is going to be environmentally cleaner running trucks. Nowadays I'd prefer a Kenworth or Peterbuilt.

Especially for Swift :)
The phone ran out of memory just as it ended and so it cut out the sound channel. Doesn't really affect the video, though.
