Neil Hefti's arrangements and compositions epitomized the swinging sophistication of the late 50s and early 60s much as the Kennedys, Getz and Byrd, Sahl and Newhart did then and "Mad Men" still does today.
Fantastic arrangement. Thanks so much for posting. I first heard him in 1953 at Samson AFB in upstate NY, and I thought his band was extra special, even then as a 19 year old. So sorry to hear that he's gone.
Mr.Smooth, all the way! Will we ever hear anything comparable to the likes of him again? At least we can cherish songs like this and "Girl Talk" and savor all the beautiful memories...
As still being devastated about Neal's death last November, tears are running down my cheeks. We had known one another since 1959. Thank God for Paul, his son. We still maintain communications....RIP, Neal!!
@Tony7840 I was lucky enough to meet him in the mid-'90's thru a music store from which I had bought two of his albums - 'Barefoot in the Park' and 'The Odd Couple'. He not only signed the album covers, he took me to lunch and an afternoon jazz concert in Pasadena. I was thrilled. He was so nice and very interesting. I'll remember that afternoon for years to come. RIP Neal.
Got to spend some nice moments with Neal. I am better for it.
A gentleman. Rest in peace.
