  • B side to this was Jaspers rendition of The Magic Roundabout where Florence told Dougal to piss off & he did against the tree Dylan was leant against

  • i used to like this music, then i took an arrow to the knee

  • It's not up on YT anymore, but Steve Riks did the funniest damned version of this song, as sung by Elvis Costello. It was hilarious.

  • I most it was the MAGIC ROUNDABOUT which made this a a BIG HIT!!!! CLASS? :-)

  • Jasper made me proud to be a Brummie.

  • Love you and your golden balls Mr Carrott

  • funny as fuck where has comedy gone since the the 70s and 80s

  • @scooter88100 evolution into some really good stuff or really bad stuff trying to be good, same as the music scene.

  • When you see me moped steaming with funk, you know i'm out to burn up every motor scooter punk, ARR!

  • I had a moped once..

It ran out of funk. When I went to the filling-station the girl behind the counter said they were waiting for the funking tanker to arrive.

  • See what happens when you support Birmingham City? The Villa has David Cameron, Mervyn King and Prince William as fans. Birmingham has Jasper Carrot!

  • Mr Brummer rules his Brummingham.

  • I don't think Carrot's funny any more but this is a GREAT song once it gets going. "Ain't nobody gonna tell me where to goo now", lovely. Great performance by JC too.

  • presume this was a response to chris spedding! (sex pistols guitarist!) i didn't have an FS1E i had a Gilera Enduro....awesome!!

  • Well I don't care, all the haters can hate, when my moped's back from the garage I'm riding it around and playing this song (on speakers, full blast ;D)

  • The Best comedian around! brilliant!

  • Jasper is an awesome comic and script writer, and he pulled that off in 1975 good on him, funny song :). Laughing all the way to the bank our Jasp, sad hater, don't you wish you were too? Oh no, all you can do is troll youtube, sad innit?

  • The Magpie Geordie..

With all due respect ( as in none ) your comments simply show your lack of humour and brain cells.. I expect you also thought 'Laurie Lingo and the Dipsticks- Convoy GB' was crap too..

Dunno whether to feel sorry for your inability to see humour and smile, or accept that perhaps you are just a miserable excuse for a human being,, spreading a little grey in folks lives as you pass by............

  • HE HAD SOME BALLS !

  • When I get me moped, out on d'road, I'm gonna roid, roid, roid!

    This is sheer perfection.

  • Stll as funny,an my kids love it.Wonder what Simon Cowell would have said about it?

  • You must be aware that when this song was released we had perhaps over 1 million young riders on moped The laws had changed in regard to what us teens could use so mopeds FS1E was OUR life's so the song was funny and true. The understanding of mopeds and life has changed alot since then

  • The first 45 I ever bought.

  • SHIT SONG!!

    STICK TO GOLDEN BALLS!!!

  • Great track, love it how the dancers don't know how to react, they just wanted to hear Magic Roundabout!

  • This track was complete crap from start to finish but it still makes me smile :)

  • Listened to this on the way to wembley, come on you blue boyz!! ;)

  • I love Jasper! <3

  • Brill

  • Funny from 0.00 to 2.59. Thanks Jasper.

  • thanks for this so many memories! !!!

  • thanks for posting this its a part of my youth i thought i would never see again

  • OMG Jasper Carrot with hair lol

  • Awesome - and singing live too - almost unheard of on TOTP in those days

Wish we had the Goodies clip that followed too though :)

  • memories of sing-ing this at The Blues ground.....

  • He's as funny as a mass grave !!

  • It is a very crap song but I remember singing it non stop to my parents, in the end they gave in and bought me a brand new Yamaha FS1E DX bright yellow and black fucking lethal that front brake was lol. Got mine up to 55MPH down hill with the wind behind me. It was 1976 as I remember, Happy days :-)

  • @giptonsilly LOL so did i happy days the fs1e did we have some fun on them !!!:)))

  • @222fox1 I would love to have a go on one again, I didn't half pull some crumpet with that thing although I was 6 stone lighter then, I might get it up to 30mph these days lol

  • @giptonsilly Yeah same here lol !

  • Barry Manilow

  • quality he is awesome

  • O M G...WHAT A LOAD OF SHIT

  • @barmyarmy1967 stop hating if you don't like it then go away

  • @barmyarmy1967, I'm sure pretty much everyone totally agrees with your self assessment.

  • This is the song I would sing on X-Factor!

  • One day Im gonna go on britains got talent and do this

  • @vestariner. Thanks for that info about Jasper and his record cost's, Just show's you how making a record "A" side can give you a hit with the "B" side and I hope it made him more than the cost's.... You don't know a record out in 60- 61called lyche fair.

  • Oi CARROT, bostin tune

  • Great song, and a great performance here!

  • peter bracken is a fuckwit, a cunt, and an awful, sub-gcse-level writer

  • 1975 was a very interesting year for pop music. So much going on, and punk still comfortably, only a London/New York sub-sect. Gems like this and so many others in a similarly eclectic vein lent a random element to what became popular. For me, it was the last real year of the charts - as they were begun in the early 50's. What came afterwards was good, but of a very different nature.

  • who knows what the flip side of this record is? as I was told it was better than this side. but BBC could not play it as it was to rude!!!

  • @seeltham The Magic Roundabout. A stand-up routine. Which is what everyone bought this for. Added to the single because he'd used £700 of the £1,000 recording budget for the A-side and had forgotten about the flip.

  • @seeltham The B-side to Funky Moped was Magic Roundabout, it's on here 'cos I watched it today. Jasper also did a series of books in the 70's & 80's look for carrott roots, a little zit on the side, shop! or a store is born and sweet and sour labrador. Thanks for reading.

  • Golden Balls

  • Roid, roid, roid?

  • Ha he looks like a twin brother to Noddy Holder from Slade

  • this is mental i love it, i still have the single, and also a funky moped

  • I know the guy who wrote this song. He works at my school. I know someone who worked with him on a play. He is awesome.

  • @Rilltheorem Lovely bloke, Chris. When he came back to the uk for a visit a ouple of years back there was a nostalgic night at Hitchin Folk Club and Chris did this song with Jasper and his old singing partner Harvey Andrews among others. That was such fun!

  • He had the fastest moped because jesus is his best mate.

  • look where this billionair started

  • The audience don't seem to know how to react to this. They were probably expecting the Bay City Rollers or Mud, or something...

  • nice tune, very funny

  • he moves like des o-connor

    ..or should i say:

des o-connor moves like jasper carrot! haha

  • Jasper rules!

  • im 20 and he is by far the greatest comedian i have ever seen, love this song.

  • This is an all time favorite for many 50 yr olds I am sure,

    Golden Days!

  • @funkymoped1975 well I'm 49 and I love it.Great Memories.

  • Split or steal? awesome...

  • Thanks - my mum and dad saw a folk night with Jasper in it and they laughed so hard they nearly passed out xx

  • Comment removed

  • played football against jasper a couple of times many years ago on sunday mornings, always had us in stiches before during and after the game!

  • Classic comedy record produced by fellow Brummy Jeff Lynne

  • haha - my dad's just told me to put it on. I said " The guy off golden balls?" He didnt know what I was on about . he sed "No, the singer!" XD

  • omg jasper carrott with hair lol

  • Aaaah - The Garelli Rekord. What a bike ! Sadly I only had an FS1-E. I modified it with a skimmed head, enlarged ports and an expansion chamber and it would achieve around 50mph. Having said that I feel I should point out that this was downhill with a following wind and a favourable horoscope.

  • @drpoxy Arrrrrrrrrgh the Garelli Rekord! Spent more time fixing it than riding it! Once the magneto flywheel detached whilst heading towards Basildon on the A127, came straight through the crankcase cover. Pushed it all the way to Canvey Island for a new cover and woodruff key. Have'nt learnt from that experience and ride a Ducati today!

  • Quality control (or lack of) has often been something of an Achillies heel for Italian hardware. But Garellis and Ducatis certainly look the business and in the case of the latter - sound it too ! Always fancied a Laverda Jota myself. Loud, noisy & very, very exciting - but - at my age and with my arthritic joints probably not a very sensible idea.

  • Jota - you cannot beat the sound of a triple. I've also got a 1979 XS750 Yam. Last year I visited the Ducati factory on route to Mugello. Well worth a visit. Looks like you know your bikes. Do you follow the racing? Neil Hodgson is back in BSB next year, looking forward to seeing Neil race again in UK. Rossi fan?

  • Hi Cleticduke - I've PM'd you the answers

  • Sunday May 31st 2009 at Hitchin Folk Club. Jasper performed the song on stage at a Harvey Andrews gig, accompanied by Chris Rohannn (the writer) and Harvey. An evening to remember.

  • @foxhollow100 I was there! Great night.... and it's Chris Rohmann.

  • he did make it as a parody of speddings song and magic roundabout was on the flip side.

  • what a load of shit and who ever bought it want shooting

  • Hahahahaha you looked for it! Your probably a failed Golden Balls contestant - your a bad loser lol!

  • The actual recorded version is a lot more gutsy and heavier than this. But a great song nonetheless, I think he released this to take the piss out of Chris Speddings "Motorbikin".

  • GOLDEN BALLS!

  • used to like carrot now think its crap

  • Must say Stan yes it is crap.Me now i like the migic roundabout

  • He only recorded it because it was predicted that the BBC would refuse to play the "Magic Roundabout" routine that was on the other side of the single.

It really is rather crap isnt it.

  • Is this artist a Director of Birmingham City FC?

  • Used to be, until 1982.

  • Great drumming from Bev Bevan on this.

  • hahaa i love this song...i thank my stepfather for showin it to me=] thanks

  • Haha this is bloody brilliant!

  • What a beauty ! Stebe wright fucks it up again by crashing the song by opening his fucking hole !!!!!

  • Mine was a Honda SS50

    55mph !

  • In your dreams! Maybe you mean 55 mpg!Now if you had a Garelli Rekord, which spent more time being repaired than on the road, I might believe you!

  • it was a 1978 bike, unrestricted. ie before the 30mph law came in. 55mph was quite normal without to much modifaction.

  • That mod must have been C90 head, barrel and carb. Even that's pushing it! You still riding, what you got?

  • I raced a RG500 from 88 to 93 and became 'The British M/Cycle Racing Club Champ in 1995 riding a CBR600. I still have the RG :-)

    I now run/own SG Motorsport

  • Impressive! But the 55mph SS50 is more impressive! I like u!

  • LOL It was done on a flat dual carriage way with a mate in a Ford Anglia following. He confirmed the speed.

  • Hey ,ur mate had the best wheels, even with the broken speedo LOL! UR Ivan?

  • No I'm not Ivan... I distribute his products outside USA

  • Just too add - there is enthusiast clubs for them today where they have rallies and rideouts. We are all a bit fatter now

  • You had too be there in the late 70's period. At 16 you could ride a thing called a sports moped (Yamaha FS1E - Suzuki AP50 - Gilera, Garelli's, Fantics and more). The streets were full of them hurtling about. These mopeds would do 50 mph on a good day. The song came off the back of the craze like so many other crap comedy songs.. So many youngsters got hurt the government restricted the moped speed to only 30mph and the craze began to die from that point. I was there - I had an FS1E

  • This is just plain wrong!

  • omg this well good and catchy :P (Y)

  • he had HAIR?!?!?!? :O

  • was this a real song?

  • HOw high in the charts did this get?

Brilliant by Carrott! Oh, why does he do Golden Balls? He is much better than that!

  • This is so enjoyable to hear it brings back memories of being a teenager.

  • And to think this was the B side!

  • It was the A side. Magic Roundabout was the B side

  • Oh me Vegetables.

  • When You See My Moped Steaming With Funk...

You Know Im Out To Burn Up Every Motor Scooter Punk Ohhh... =D

    Me fave part :D

  • Jasper Carrott is a brilliant comedian and singer and a great TV host - why he wastes his time doing the dreadful Golden Balls these days I'll never know - it does not demonstrate the talent he is clearly capable of.

  • @bhvictory For meney. His company makes Golden Balls. I think it's called Celador or something.

  • Awesome song!!! Jasper is a true king of comedy!!!

  • a brummie after me own heart

  • Wow, he really made deadpan into an art form didn't he!
