I have this camera and i hate it. the only good thing about it is the ability to record SD and Flash at once. i am tired of these little cams. i put a 10% deposit on a RED Epic.

You have done an outstanding job makining this useful review. Very well done and thank you for doing this... That's a LOT of work... The thing I HATED about this camera is that it is touchscreen and i do not do that as it will fingernark my LCD, looking like shit. Is there a way to review footage without pressing on the LCD by using buttons instead? Please reply. Thanks.

@formaset Yes I have one of these cams and I was concerned about the fingerprints on screen, however there are three ways to use this cam, 1, touchscreen, 2, A scroll & push wheel on the left middle side below the audio control dials & 3, an Execute button surrounded buy four arrow buttons so if you are like me and do not like touching the screen you still have two options, I hope this helps.

What do you mean by "not the best codec"? AVC is better than MPEG-2, and since the EX does not have 4:2:2 color sampling, it is really no better than AVCHD. Adam Wilt confirmed that AVCHD @ 17 Mbit/s looks as good as XDCAM EX @ 35 Mbit/s. Maybe the new Canon XF camcorders can deliever better image with 4:2:2 and 50 Mbit/s, but I've seen some disturbing frame grabs with noticeable 8x8 pixel block structure, inherent to MPEG-2.

@EluraUser i agree with you on that. also this camera has HDSDI outputs and so you can get 60mb or even 100mb HD footage instead of AVCHD 24mb.

Have fun dude. Its a nice cam.. ooh but if u r not in a hurry wait 7mths more for the S35 NXCAM. Interchangable lens with sexy Super 35mm sensor. Will give you nice DOF with great audio.

Thank you for posting this video. I saw artifacts in your sample shot of panning in parking garage from side to side quickly. Are you recording in 1080p, with 1920 X 1080? I want to buy a camera that will allow me to put high quality video on YouTube. Do you recommend the Sony NX5 for this?

Hi , do you have any problem while rendering sd files? i use sony vegas 9.0 and i do get problem while rendering . My sony vegas shuts down automatically when i have about half hr. project on timeline. can you help??

Hi, im testing my new nx5 cam, i put a cable at hd/sd/sdi OUT to a sd sony monitor and i haven´t signal. in the camera menu i put VIDEO OUT - OUT PUT SELEC - SDI, 480i and letter box. can you help me? is this normal or my nx5 is broken? thanks.

The EVF is good compared to the old Z1,FX1 days. Resolution is better so focusing is more accurate.

Gorgeous camera. I'm about to move from consumer to Pro. This would seem to be a good one to start off in 'Pro' with. Pity about the 'infinity' rings though, but for the price, it seems like a lot of camera. 8-))

the weight is the same. The removal of the drum for z5 is offset by the flash drive. There is a dummy in place if u do not use one. NX5 is 2.2kg without batt. 2.7kg with F970.

Pwr consumption is low as well.

85min Rec time@ 16Gb, 1920x1080 25p at FX mode (24Mbps)
