All drugs should be legalized. That would quickly end gang violence over territory disputes. Some of the tax money raised can go into providing free drug treatment programs for addicts. Additionally, when one buys drugs safety pamphlets and nagging language can be printed on the materials provided with the drugs to decrease deaths. Violent individuals should still be locked up but non-violent users should be left alone (other than nagged but not forced to seek treatment, similar to gambling)
I just really don't see why it is the government's job to babysit bad behavior. Alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than a lot of illegal drugs. Oxycontin has even more abuse potential than Heroin. Freebase anything is pretty dangerous, but coca tea has tons of health benefits and shouldn't be shoved into the same category as crack. Pot is perfectly safe, and as long as people aren't driving stoned it should be treated even more lax than alcohol which really kills people.

All drugs should be legalized. That would quickly end gang violence over territory disputes. Some of the tax money raised can go into providing free drug treatment programs for addicts. Additionally, when one buys drugs safety pamphlets and nagging language can be printed on the materials provided with the drugs to decrease deaths. Violent individuals should still be locked up but non-violent users should be left alone (other than nagged but not forced to seek treatment, similar to gambling)

I just really don't see why it is the government's job to babysit bad behavior. Alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than a lot of illegal drugs. Oxycontin has even more abuse potential than Heroin. Freebase anything is pretty dangerous, but coca tea has tons of health benefits and shouldn't be shoved into the same category as crack. Pot is perfectly safe, and as long as people aren't driving stoned it should be treated even more lax than alcohol which really kills people.
