For 2012, it's all about the little things. More skating area, better ice, adding seating in the penalty box, sound system, log siding, more seating inside and out, and who knows maybe a scoreboard someday….. For now we just need some cold weather and we'll be out there shortly enjoying a good many neighborhood gatherings along with another run by the Packers towards a Super Bowl victory. We'll be sure to share the improvements with the next video releases. Check back for more!
In 2011 we collaborated and the rink became an Arena! It grew in size to about 100 ft across and the ice depth was increased. The Penalty box (wood warming structure) was built and completed with the help of many kids and Dad's. During the season we added a wood stove, bar rail and chairs, seating, Satellite dish, and more. For the new larger skate area we needed the ability to surface the worn ice... hence the Zamboni. Great ice could not be possible without one so we built one!
New for 2012 you ask, well….. a lot changed since our first year back in 2010 when a few guys gathered 200 ft of garden hose, a few thousand gallons of water from the well, and maybe a pitcher or two of home brews, and we first built the prototype attempt at a rink. During year one the rink was only about 30 ft across complete with plenty of obstacles. Back then the idea of smooth ice was just a mere dream, the beginning of something bigger yet to come.
