Its nice to see other antinatalists speaking out. When I have discussions about this topic with people I usually get negative reactions. For some reason most people just dont seem to be able to grasp this concept. I have been asked if I am suicidal or sociopathic because of my antinatalism lol The sociopathic thing just plain baffles me. Antinatalism is for the most part an empathetic view.
Hey, it'd be awesome to see your face. I hate breeding, birth, the human race, etc. But the whole world can see me. Anyway, just curious about the face thing. Good points! I had no idea there was a word for us--awesome!
The only good arguments I've ever heard for antinatalism. Not that they're new to me, but you didn't go into silly cost benefit philosophies or talking about imposing life on the non-living etc.
Do you think that there should be laws regulating or outlawing birth in Western countries? Or would that go against your concept of autonomy?
I did a video on licensed parenting, I don't believe reproduction is a right, it should be regulated for the good of society (overpopulation) and the potential child (abusive/unfit parents).
I don't see why the Russian roulette analogy does not apply to the new life being brought in as well. Except instead of playing Russian roulette with yourself you are doing it with another. If that is not imposing I'm not sure what is. :)
It's not 'silly' at all. You wouldn't advocate a woman becoming pregnant if there were a 95% chance that her baby would be born with a brain tumor and die in agony at the age of five. Talking about the rights of 'future people' to avoid suffering is logically coherent. You just can't accept that all the suffering you will experience in your life need not have happened and that you wouldn't have missed out on a single thing if you'd never been.
@DerivedEnergy Sorry, but the amount of pleasure in my life far outweighs the pain, it's well worth it. I'm glad I'm alive. If you can be spared suffering by not being born then you can be deprived of joy by not being born.
"If you can be spared suffering by not being born then you can be deprived of joy by not being born."
Sparing of suffering is a proactive measure taken to prevent suffering from coming into existence, and hence is compatible with non-existence. Depriving of joy requires that something exists that can be deprived. This is why it is asymmetrical. One is prevention of a future harm the other is not a deprivation of something non-existent.

Would you rather not exist?

@darkwhitedirewolf
Nonsensical question, if I didn't exist I wouldn't be aware of the possibility of existence.

@FlyingFree333 You stated that reproduction was stupid. So your parents reproduced and you exist. DO you wish that event never happened?
darkwhitedirewolf 1 month ago
@darkwhitedirewolf
No I said giving birth was stupid when you could adopt and avoid the risk to your health.

@FlyingFree333 AH Ok

Reproducing: stupid idea.

Well put! I couldn't agree more. And the Russian roulette is not only with the parent, but the person being brought in to existence.

What about women that want
to go though pregnancy and
bath. They want to experience
that part of being a women.
I wouldn't, but I wouldn't want
to tell her that is wrong for wanting
that.

@shellysunfish
Wants do not equal rights. I may want to know the experience of killing someone, that doesn't give me the right to do it.

@FlyingFree333
now were talking about rights?

@shellysunfish ''I wouldn't, but I wouldn't want to tell her that is wrong for wanting
that.''
It's not wrong for merely wanting something but procreating is an actual physical act that goes beyond simply desiring to have a child.

@shellysunfish What about the orphans who want to live in a decent home and want to experience that part of being human?
Instead, they're left, under-cared for desperately alone.

@TheLaughingOut How is cost-benefit silly?
Humanity is one of the most destructive and harmful species that has ever evolved - we are rightfully subject to cost-benefit analysis.
