I don't know how far Dick Clark has come along since that speech but I know that people recover from strokes nowadays way better than they used to. I have a friend who had a stroke and he talked with badly slurred speech and was partially paralyzed. He's now gained full speech back like it almost never happened and he only walks with a slight limp now.
