I find shredding PG stuff actually easier than this (i kinda learnt from his Intense rock DVD's so i guess i would ... ;) ) ... but for those of you that think slower may mean easier , you are SO wrong, all of this guys lead runs are out of the box, have complicated fingerings and are just all over the place and never sound the same twice..... Awesome player !
Great guitarist. This tune has hints of Vai and Satriani in his phrasing. Anyway, I like his approach to playing. Less is more philosophy. It's all about the quality of the notes, not quantity. I can sit and listen to this kinda player all day. Alot of shredders out there can learn alot from this guy, Ill tell ya.
@slamkam07 Andy certainly has a much warmer tone in comparison, probably due to the fact he picks with his fingers. But I wouldn't say it was "better".
I mentioned the Steve Vai influence simply because of what I heard at 1:00 or even 2:33 for example. I'm sure you could reference other guitarists with similar playing styles, but Steve Vai dominates my play list and the guy does have an Ibanez in his hands with the long hair to match! :)
I'm new to Andy Timmons, but the thing i took away from it was this: the guy still has GROOVE even with all of the flourishes...develops some serious groove / riffs and builds on them....number two..his choice of notes....excellent...phrasing...excellent....great job Andy!
@MEGAS0UND if you think that andy timmons can't sweep, can't string skipp then you are seriously mistaken. and if you don't think he knows scales, then you are just plain stupid!
@MEGAS0UND wtf with you buddy...? , you seem pretty mad at this guy , let people be and play wathever they want , not everyone likes "shred" or 4045948098 bpm music
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Head Explodes after reading the discussion about music thoery underneath)
@TheAlteredTuning Ibanez AT 300 It is one of the evolutions of his signature version of the sa's that are now discontinued. They are the slim bodies and are fantastic, my geetarist plays with one. Violin top is killer huh?
People tend to gravitate towards the oddly named "commercial" guitarists at the beginning, before discovering all these guys later who blow them all away. Instrumental will never be "pop". I like it that way. People find these guys when their ears are ready for them.
@stemajor7 Pop music is more "pop"ular because We who speak in the language of Melodic Minor and Lydian (Major) are the minority compared to those who don't understand music.
It's okay. Because if everyone knew how to navigate a Hexatone scale, then even the most brilliant composer would find himself at a struggle to collect an audience, and/ or Any salary at all....
I resign myself to the fact that I'll never succeed with the music industry. But if my life lets me play and record every day...
@ShadowLancer128 Thats basically a bullshit statement. There are enough non-pop artist who know shit about modes or complex harmony stuff. And Hexatonic scales are actually the most used scale in music ---> Blues scale. Which is basically a pentatonic with an added note which makes it Hexatonic. So actually A LOT of guitarplayers know how to navigate a Hexatonic scale (which isnt hexatone) like you spelled it. Use those theoretical words when you know the meaning of 'em. PS. Andy Timmons is win.
There really aren't. There are what, basically 5 popular guitarists, something like 3 famous keyboardist, etc... I dont find that there are enough. Blues Scales are minor pentatonics with an ADDED dim. 5th. A hexatone scale which is "hexatonic" as you pronounce it, is a WHOLETONE scale. A scale more famously known for its dreamy sound, consisting of all Whole Steps in its (((6 INTERVALS.))) This is why its called a hexatone scale.
@ShadowLancer128 Look it up...youll see that the Hexatonic scale covers up 4 different scales, including the blues scale. Also, a major 4th is non-existing in music. Its either the augmented fourth or the diminished 5th, since the fourth basically is perfect interval which consists out of 6 semitones. And since when has ''knowledge'' of music theory anything to do with IQ? Also the Whole Tone scale isn't a very practical scale to use, so its understandable why its not used much.
The Blues scale was made for the blues genre. I did look it up, and know what I'm talking about.
I'm pointing out the technicalities which you seem to ignore.
"The Hexatone scale" is just a name made for any progression of 6 intervals. And yes, a maj. 4th is also called a tritone, or b 5th. Knowledge of Music Theory is relevant to IQ when you go to college FOR music, Like me :D No, it's not very practical + its intervals are sometimes very difficult on the fingers (and the mind)
@ShadowLancer128 K'm Pee du Wee uses the Lydian mode. AND the 4th interval of the major scale = the perfect 4th not the major 4th. It's a shame that if you go to college for music and don't know that. No wonder that almost everyone ignores those so called ''music studies''.
Whats funny is we're both wrong, with given intonation problems, there is no such thing as a perfect interval, at least on Just (also called equal) temperament.
So- we're both music nerds and are both right. lol. enough is enough, eh?
For a similar sounding procession of intervals, There is always the Lydian Mode of The Major Scale. Which If I'm not mistaken, is any Major chord (or note in this case) played over its Major 4th. i.e. Cmaj/F, Gmaj/C, etc...
It is a sin and a shame that Andy Timmons isn't better known. He has a unique style, and everything he plays is so impressive. I love his touch, the way he accents and phrases notes. Everything always sounds "just right" when Andy plays it. He very easily would hang with Steve Vai, Joe Satch, and a host of other "heroes", yet not very many know about him. I'm so sick of telling people about him, and they say "Andy who?". The guy is brilliant.
it sounds really great but i would not call that a "tone" cause it's way to artificial (to many effect under which the feeling is buried) it's a cool sound but not much "tone" left
The guys that doesn't liked this video thinks music is a competition... My favourite guitar player is slash, but some guys here on yt recommend Andy timmons songs to me (for practicing vibrato). @figaz555 Andy Timmons fails..? I think someone seriously needs to do their research. Your halfway there, your browser is on youtube.com, you must have typed in 'Andy Timmons' so go watch his other videos already.. The guy is insane
Stu Hamm him self told me that technique is about don't have any physical limitation when you try to express something, so, doesn't matter if is low speed or light fast, emotion can be express in any speed, besides, Andy is an incredible musician, when you hear him, you simply enjoy your self.....
Yep, I think you got it. That's the point so many people are missing. There are so many guys noodling on their guitars with loads of distortion and os on but give them an acoustic guitar in hands and make them play ONE EXPRESSIVE NOTE and they're lost.
@tomtomomelley Give an acoustic player an Electric guitar and watch the most dreadfull guitar playing!!!!!!! ha ha looks like we have ourselves a jonas brothers freak!!!!!! So ignorant if you dont like the video then go watch other videos!!!!
@figaz555 the main groove is not that different from Viv Woman. i dont understand why its such an insult to compare two extremely talented guitarists.

@tomtomomelley
well an acoustic guitar is almost a different instrument than the electric guitar.

@figaz555 the main groove is not that different from Viv Woman. i dont understand why its such an insult to compare two extremely talented guitarists.
