yoshi and pow block arent power ups...and the 'regular mushroom' and 'rainbow mario' is called super mushroom and starman/invincibility star/super star

so i guess the ice flowe and penguin suit relationship is like the raccon leaf and tanooki suit. raccon leaf you can attack with your tail and fly and the tanooki suit can do that too but also turn into a statue. and the ice suit shoots ice balls and the penguin suit can slide, swim better and shoot iceballs

no, just either from a mushroom house or the enemies that are on the map; the enemies only give you mushroom, though

I really like the the shell better better than the penguin suit. I think they should've at least added the hammer suit or the tanooki suit.

only in multiplayer mode, as player 2, you can play as any character except mario; mario is always player 1
