I wish I lived in the US, you have such great cars. I'm in the UK and the average car is a 1.6/1.8litre petrol, 5speed manual. 0-60 in 10s and 40MPG. Even our police use 1.25litre Ford Fiestas to run about in. Here petrol costs equivalent to $13/imperial gallon. Diesel costs more. So running one of your cars would be very expensive and garages here are rubbish so I doubt they could even service some of your cars.
@Derryodell1990 I have driven many of these cars, the motor is plenty good considering they really do get 18- 25 mpg... a 5.4 would be a sweet option & the DOHC Marauder engine has more kick, however nobody would buy a sedan that gets 14 mpg stock.
i used to drive a '93 lx, not a cvpi, i know, but i think there was a problem with the exhaust, because one of the o-rings kept fuckin melting. It was loud as hell and sounded like a monster, which i loved, but it pissed my mom off when i came home at three in the morning.
samwinder thats not completely true... i own a 2006 crown vic police interceptor and it does 140. it all depends on the limiter and what ratio the car was equiped with..
@robobrain44449 You wouldnt want to reomve the speed limiter. It is put there as a safety mechanism. It's because the driveshaft is so long that harmonic vibrations will begin to get too high above 130MPH and cause a U-joint to bind up. At 140MPH that would not be pretty.

Evaluation Program The CVPI run 0-60 in 9.01 seconds and hits 100 in 24.4 seconds and that was without police equipment inside too. I doubt this one has any police equipment either. Add 500-1000lb's of stuff and the ones the police drive are even slower then this! Today I saw 2 cops gun-it after getting a call,both their cars were DOGS! (noisy & sluggish)
@abram7117 And you wonder why you call 911, and it takes a half hour if not more for the police to show up. But luckily Ford got the idea there Crown Vics are a little bit slow & sluggish, so at the end of 2011, they are going to release there new 2011 Ford Taurus interceptors! :D Which get's 0-60 in less then 6 secs! & also they are getting rid of the gas guessing V-8, and replacing it with a V-6. There new V-6's can get maximum of 365 HP, which is 115 more HP then the Crown Vic! Did you know?
@joewillgo the vics are much better; body on frame chassis much stronger. thats why crown vics can take such a beating when in car accidents and ramming other cars. The engine isnt tunned to potential you can can get much more out of that 8 than a v6. The only reason why the 6 has more power is because of the turbo.

@chpman2013 Well good point, but I Ford was looking for a benefit to police & taxpayers I get. But I am going to miss the Crown Vic, it has an awesome classic look to it. You Know?
@joewillgo indeed cost benefits were in mind with the Taurus when they decided to make it into the next police interceptor, especially when it came to fuel costs...how will the Taurus hold up after a few years of very hard emergency driving? we'll have to wait and see..the Crown Vic is a near unbreakable car, some agencies are still using the old mid-90's era Crown Vic's..right now, the cop car that has the best combined fuel economy is the V8 Caprice at 18.9 mpg, beating the CV by 5 mpg
@imserious2187 idk about these yrs but according to test the 2011 models are slower then 2007's. I heard cops say their current cars are slower then their previous 03-05 ones.
Id say this guy is probably not going full throttle, these cars have 250 horse from 2004+ and Ive seen videos of older ones with 230 horse going faster than this....it really does creeeeeeeeep from about 80 onwards. Somethings up in this vid, I own one of these (1998 P71) and it rips more than this one on highways.
Huh... Odd. I just got a 2007, and it seems like mine goes through its gears a bit quicker than this. I didn't think they changed anything between the years, but maybe they did :/
@2007Escalade They've done some slight, more/less unnoticable, updates to the transmission, but gear ratios are the same in all of them. I agree, this thing looks like a total slug compared to my 95 Grand Marquis. And the CVPI even has a lower 3.27 final drive, vs. the 2.73 cruising/MPG final drive mine has. Thats a world of a difference for gearing. I think somethings wrong with this one, or its been abused all to hell and its tired.
@Beldar4214 what this car needs is more torque and either the 2.73 final drive or a 3.08 final drive, along with a 6 speed auto...this car is just shy of 300 lbs. ft of torque...the mid 90's Caprice LT1 engine cranked out 330 lbs. ft
@chpman2013 The 4R70W is bascally an electronic ford AOD, which suck alot of power let alone have stupid wide gearing. Some people have dropped 5 speeds in these cars; the mustang T45s basically bolt right in(Mustang also has a 4R70W auto). Probably the best mod for the money you can do to wake these cars up besides a supercharger or turbo.
Something seems wrong here. Your car takes over 9 seconds to get to 60. I have an '07 F-150 5.4 that would kill this and it should be just the other way around. My truck is getting 7.8-7.9 second 0-60s all day long. Something must be wrong here.
Love the noise of that 4.6L screaming. Putting a K&N filter into my '06 CVPI w/3.55 rear tomorrow and I think that's the only change I'm making to it. :)
I think the Crown Victorias are a true american icon. they serve the police departments nd taxi industries all over the U.S....give them a round of applause for hauling alot of ass...nd being a great powerful intimidating vehicle manufactured by Ford
no CVPI are supercharged. the departments dont want any performance added, departments say adding superchargers decreases how reliable the car is. no departments want to pay for that. the only reason why crown vics that dnt do a well enough 0-60 is because they weigh really heavy. CVPI that the police drive can weighs 5,500+ pounds whn all the police equipment are in it, u expect a fast 0-60 from a car weighing that much. NOPPEEE
@r1casill Do reasearch with local Troopers using Chargers buddy,they dont last as long b4 they need to visit the repair shops so you are wrong my friend.Charger might look better but looks aint everything and youll pay alot more at the pump with the Mofart.
By any chance would you know why my acceleration seems so slow and my crown vic seems to switch gears slower if i have a high flow Magnaflow exhaust setup and K & N CAI ? (any possibility its the fuel filter or injectors) plz help me out
these cars are great. they go for a long time, my 2002 cv has over 550 k miles! have done 0-60 tests, it does it in 9.1 seconds, top speed 117 mph. plus police dnt need speed, as soon as they but the sirens and lights on, the last thing on ur mind is getting away away;)
actually after watching this again, my 08 V6 f150 would beat this thing. 0-60 was almost 10 seconds, mine is about 9.2 and i ran the 1/4 in 16.9378@81.66mph and this one takes over 17 seconds to hit 80mph
for being an interceptor, this thing is slow. i think the base crown vic would hang with this one. the late 90s ones(butterfly taillights) were supposedly the quickest for the interceptors.
Dam, is this really all they have!? I was thinking of getting one but I believe that the focus I have will already hang with this till around 108, then I have to put it in 5th, but this vic keeps going reasonably well. What is the typical 1/4 mile time for a newer one like this?
alot of people complain of acceleration on these but keep in mind these things with driver weigh near 4,500 LBS, Heavier than alot of trucks so dont expect a rocket
I rode in a 2010 crown vic yesterday only had 250 miles on it when I did a ride along yesterday with our sheriff's office I'd do anything to get one of these things!
and 4.7 if you opt for a lower ratio. The newer 4.7 will probably have all the power you want unless you tow/haul heavy loads. though The V6 looks even worse considering it gets worse gas mileage.
Don't let this fool you. While a standard crown Vic may have crappy 0-60 time, highway patrol crown vics usually have superchargers, and do a lot better. Where I live, marked Police Interceptor means it's superchargered. Unmarked ones like those used by personell, government employees, and detectives do not have SCs.
@MarineHawk117 not true i work in an auto shop and most have the 230-250hp depending on model and lower rear axle to make it quicker. Thats only slightly slower then the twin turbo v6s and most modern stock v8 cars around them. Enough torque to keep them pulling at higher speeds, wich is enough to atleast keep up with most cars around them.
... Now bear in mind I've seen under the hood of FHP, State Trooper, and local LEO Crown vics. They've got superchargers. And they are fast. I don't know what one-horse town you're in, but in Broward and Miami Dade, cops need that power to deal with the various trash speeding in some pretty formidable sports cars. Normal crown vics are laughable. I could beat them with my Ram. SC crown vics are a different story.
I have an 05 Ram Crewcab Hemi 5.7L. It gets 0-60 in 7.0 seconds flat. If you're talking top speed, then yeah a small Crown Vic will eventually overtake it. But from 0-100ish the Ram Hemi fuckin hauls. And that ram is 7,000 lbs.
@MarineHawk117 ya im just saying ive beaten a hemi ram before and on the highway I beat a 5.7 jeep now putting your truck down or nothing man its a sick truck i was just throwing that out there
Yeah, with what kind of car? Also, for all you know tha Ram you raced had different gear ratio. And was it a light duty with a Hemi, or a Heavy Duty?
My Ram Hemi crewcab light duty has beaten a f-150 5.4L, a silverado 5.3L, a Nissan Altima 2.5L, 07 Lancer GTS, Honda Civic, 02 Ford explorer, 03 Ford Taurus, and a ram 5.9L.
No, I think they started that shit in 2006. I just missed it. MDS may improve your mpg... a little... but I'm willing to bet after a few years, MDS systems will begin to start breaking or start malfunctioning. It seems a little too complicated.
@MarineHawk117 I think variable valve timing or variable cam timing is a better alternative....like the new 5.0 v-8 in the 11' mustang, which has twin-independent variable cam timing...makes 412 horsepower, yet it gets 26 mpg....
Absolutely. I love my Hemi Ram, I do. But honestly I'm not that impressed with Chrysler/Dodge's latest and greatest technology. In the future, my next ride will probably be one helluva fast (enhanced) F-150 6-speed 5.4L. Something that's still all-American, anyways.
@MarineHawk117 well, there really hasn't any major problems with the mds equipped hemi's that I can find.....plus, I really want the new Ram, the looks of it are just so appealing to me, as well as the V-8 sound....specifically, I want the Ram SLT Crew-cab 4x4....
We went to a dealership a year ago and test drove an 09 Laramie 5.7L HEMI with rwd. It was a very awesome truck. Dodge apparently improved the intake and (especially) the exhaust, and probably improved the air/fuel ratio, as the 09 and 10 Hemi pumps out 390 Hp, and the 05 I have now pumps out 345 Hp. You can't tell MDS is running, and if you were to floor the ram while it's engaged, it only takes a fraction of a second to get the other four cylinders running.
@MarineHawk117 yeah....even though there are some people out there who don't like the idea of a V-8 runnin' as a V-4 when it's bein' operated under light usage, I certainly do...I thought it was a pretty cool idea, that havin' cylinder deactivation would reduce the amount fuel it burns through, as well as emit less....
Well, it's a neat idea in theory. But if I had the choice between MDS or no-MDS, I'd choose not to have it. It just seems a little too complicated to me. As for emitting greenhouse gases and hurting the Earth... ehh, I'm really not into being eco-fanatical. A truck is a truck. It's not supposed to get 30-something mpg. I get 20-21 mpg (when properly driving) and I'm fairly satisfied with that. Getting a programmer like a Hypertech can also help improve mpg and performance.
@MarineHawk117 well, yeah I know full-sized pickup trucks were never destined to get 30 mpg, they're too big and too heavy to achieve that.....but for me, any pickup that gets at least over 20 mpg is acceptable....
One big factor to consider is the gear ratio. The Ram has the option of the 3.21, 3.55, 3.92, or 4.21 gears. 3.21 are best for fuel economy, worst for racing/towing performance. 4.21 are pathetic for fuel economy, scary-powerful for racing/towing. I have 3.55, which gets 20-21 mpg. 3.92 does a little worse, but provides much better engine performance.
Getting an aftermarket intake and exhaust helps improve mpg. Amazingly enough, you can actually get some good numbers if you try.
@MarineHawk117 point taken....but personally, I'm not lookin' for a racing truck or heavy hauler....just a truck that has adequate power and fuel economy, and just to enjoy driving....
If you're at a dealership, be sure to find out what gearing the Ram you're interested in has before getting it. I believe that info is on the window sticker, but it's also written in the manual. With 3.21, MDS, an aftermarket K&N intake, a hypertech engery programmer, and maybe an aftermarket exhaust, you can actually get really high mpgs for a fullsize truck. The savings in fuel would actually pay for those aftermarket mods after a few months.
Sure thing. The only other tip I can think of is don't get the 3.7L V6 engine option for fuel economy, cause ironically, a crewcab ram with a V6 actually gets crappy mpgs, since it has to work hard to move the 6,500+ lbs vehicle.
I think the 4.7L V8 is a little more fuel efficient than the Hemi, but at that point, you'd be better off getting the hemi. Worth the couple mpgs less for the increase in power.
@MarineHawk117 yeah, the V-6 is only best if you're gettin' the base regular cab, short-bed 2wd ram...the crew-cab needs the V-8 for sure....but the 4.7 V-8 has no cylinder-deactivation and is flex-fuel capable...but 310 hp. and 330 lbs. ft. of tq. isn't bad at all if you want somethin' normal...
True. I don't know, I can't imagine having a 4.7L in my Ram. I'd always wonder what the HEMI would be like.
But the odds are, whatever you choose, you're gonna be happy with a Ram. We've had Rams for decades. They're great vehicles. I'm kinda pro-American, so I don't know what my next truck will be, but I fully admit the Rams are great trucks.
@MarineHawk117 well, I was considering the 4.7 because I don't think I'm gonna need all that power that HEMI cranks out unless I'm haulin' somethin' really big and heavy, which I don't have future plans on doin'...but yeah, the Dodge Ram has been my favorite truck since I was 6 years old, which was a few years after the Ram got the "big-rig" styled front end...I currently drive a 95' camry 4 cylinder...it's quite nimble when it's empty, but it immediately becomes somewhat of a slug when loaded..
the most we've ever towed with the 05 Ram was a 10,100 lbs 38 ft boat+trailer rig. We did not think it would happen, but thanks to Miami being totally flat, the ram was actually able to haul it just fine. Impressed a lot of dually diesel owners. Had this truck for over 5.5 years... Not a single problem other than the battery spontaneously died a year ago.
@chpman2013 Not to trying to change your mind,but you may want to look at other brands if Gas Mileage is top concern and its used. The Hemi has good power but uses alot of gas even with a light foot, I think it avg like 11-12MPG, the older 4.7 has decent power but dosn't really get any better MPG about 13-14. The 3.7 V6 is way underpowered and gets only 14 shouldn't be considered. If your looking at a newer truck then Get the Hemi if you can Afford it it actually get better MPG then the V6
@MarineHawk117 Wrong these cars made 250HP and 297 tq tops, the older ones have less. The Standard VIcs have 224-239HP depending on exhaust. these have a different air intake system that gives them more power then the standard Vic thats it power wise. the idle is slightly higher and these have low rear axle ratio{almost suv/truck like}. combined with the nearly 300lbft of torque and low axle ratio these can keep up with most vehicles If they have SC then it was after market,not from the factory
2006 and later Crown Victorias sound likes their engine redlined acceleration is sealed..In other words, its not as loud as 2004 and prior...I don't know for sure, that's what I think.

Huh... Odd. I just got a 2007, and it seems like mine goes through its gears a bit quicker than this. I didn't think they changed anything between the years, but maybe they did :/
2007Escalade 11 months ago
@2007Escalade They've done some slight, more/less unnoticable, updates to the transmission, but gear ratios are the same in all of them. I agree, this thing looks like a total slug compared to my 95 Grand Marquis. And the CVPI even has a lower 3.27 final drive, vs. the 2.73 cruising/MPG final drive mine has. Thats a world of a difference for gearing. I think somethings wrong with this one, or its been abused all to hell and its tired.
Beldar4214 10 months ago
@Beldar4214 what this car needs is more torque and either the 2.73 final drive or a 3.08 final drive, along with a 6 speed auto...this car is just shy of 300 lbs. ft of torque...the mid 90's Caprice LT1 engine cranked out 330 lbs. ft
chpman2013 9 months ago

Something must be wrong here.

no CVPI are supercharged. the departments dont want any performance added, departments say adding superchargers decreases how reliable the car is. no departments want to pay for that. the only reason why crown vics that dnt do a well enough 0-60 is because they weigh really heavy. CVPI that the police drive can weighs 5,500+ pounds whn all the police equipment are in it, u expect a fast 0-60 from a car weighing that much. NOPPEEE

MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 not true i work in an auto shop and most have the 230-250hp depending on model and lower rear axle to make it quicker. Thats only slightly slower then the twin turbo v6s and most modern stock v8 cars around them. Enough torque to keep them pulling at higher speeds, wich is enough to atleast keep up with most cars around them.
jayguy173 1 year ago
SC crown vics are a different story.

...you mean if my Dodge Ram is stock?
I have an 05 Ram Crewcab Hemi 5.7L. It gets 0-60 in 7.0 seconds flat. If you're talking top speed, then yeah a small Crown Vic will eventually overtake it. But from 0-100ish the Ram Hemi fuckin hauls. And that ram is 7,000 lbs.
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 ya im just saying ive beaten a hemi ram before and on the highway I beat a 5.7 jeep now putting your truck down or nothing man its a sick truck i was just throwing that out there

My Ram Hemi crewcab light duty has beaten a f-150 5.4L, a silverado 5.3L, a Nissan Altima 2.5L, 07 Lancer GTS, Honda Civic, 02 Ford explorer, 03 Ford Taurus, and a ram 5.9L.

@MarineHawk117 that one has MDS, right?
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
No... THANK GOD.
No, I think they started that shit in 2006. I just missed it. MDS may improve your mpg... a little... but I'm willing to bet after a few years, MDS systems will begin to start breaking or start malfunctioning. It seems a little too complicated.
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 I think variable valve timing or variable cam timing is a better alternative....like the new 5.0 v-8 in the 11' mustang, which has twin-independent variable cam timing...makes 412 horsepower, yet it gets 26 mpg....
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
Absolutely. I love my Hemi Ram, I do. But honestly I'm not that impressed with Chrysler/Dodge's latest and greatest technology. In the future, my next ride will probably be one helluva fast (enhanced) F-150 6-speed 5.4L. Something that's still all-American, anyways.
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 well, there really hasn't any major problems with the mds equipped hemi's that I can find.....plus, I really want the new Ram, the looks of it are just so appealing to me, as well as the V-8 sound....specifically, I want the Ram SLT Crew-cab 4x4....
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 yeah....even though there are some people out there who don't like the idea of a V-8 runnin' as a V-4 when it's bein' operated under light usage, I certainly do...I thought it was a pretty cool idea, that havin' cylinder deactivation would reduce the amount fuel it burns through, as well as emit less....
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 well, yeah I know full-sized pickup trucks were never destined to get 30 mpg, they're too big and too heavy to achieve that.....but for me, any pickup that gets at least over 20 mpg is acceptable....
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 point taken....but personally, I'm not lookin' for a racing truck or heavy hauler....just a truck that has adequate power and fuel economy, and just to enjoy driving....
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 alright...I'll remember that...thanx for the tips...
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 yeah, the V-6 is only best if you're gettin' the base regular cab, short-bed 2wd ram...the crew-cab needs the V-8 for sure....but the 4.7 V-8 has no cylinder-deactivation and is flex-fuel capable...but 310 hp. and 330 lbs. ft. of tq. isn't bad at all if you want somethin' normal...
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 well, I was considering the 4.7 because I don't think I'm gonna need all that power that HEMI cranks out unless I'm haulin' somethin' really big and heavy, which I don't have future plans on doin'...but yeah, the Dodge Ram has been my favorite truck since I was 6 years old, which was a few years after the Ram got the "big-rig" styled front end...I currently drive a 95' camry 4 cylinder...it's quite nimble when it's empty, but it immediately becomes somewhat of a slug when loaded..
chpman2013 1 year ago
@chpman2013
the most we've ever towed with the 05 Ram was a 10,100 lbs 38 ft boat+trailer rig. We did not think it would happen, but thanks to Miami being totally flat, the ram was actually able to haul it just fine. Impressed a lot of dually diesel owners. Had this truck for over 5.5 years... Not a single problem other than the battery spontaneously died a year ago.
MarineHawk117 1 year ago
@MarineHawk117 well that's pretty awesome...I'm sure that did impress the dually diesel owners...haha
chpman2013 1 year ago
