Nice action. Hogan lowered in the backswing and in the downswing about evenly, and didn't back up through impact. This swing lowers going back but not down, then backs up through impact. The result is a lack of sustain through impact. Chech the position of the shaft when the left hand reaches the edge of the right leg. Hogan's was still in-line with the left arm, this one in-line with the right. This is the big difference between Hogan and all who attempt to emulate him. Sustain is the key
Club's in line with right arm not left? Really? From which angle?
Wayne, no disrespect intended, as I hope there was none in your comment, but really, your comment is effectively useless to anyone but yourself, I hope it satisfied you in some way. Now, I'm my biggest critic, so I'm comfortable with the fact that my swing isn't perfect. But lack of sustain, whatever that is....gimme a break.:)
No need to be so sensitive. Sustain refers to the shaft staying in line with the left arm past impact. If you look at impact and beyond in the swings of a lot of the best ball strikers from the face-on view you see that the right wrist does not straighten after impact (no "flipping"). If you worked on keeping your head forward as you hit it that would help. If you recorded the tournament yesterday check out the biz hub swing of Mickelson hitting a knock down shot. Lots of "sustain".
I certainly would not call Mickelson a 'great' ballstriker. He's a good striker of the ball, but please do not use him as a ref as he can't keep it on the planet at times. Also, I guess Vijay isn't a good ballstriker? His right hand practically comes off the club after impact. So does Couples'. I'd take their careers.
Check all 3 out just past impact from face-on. The right hand doesn't come off until after both hands are past the left leg. I'll post a video on the concept of "sustain". Then you'll see what I'm talking about.
Wayne, check out my half shots video, can we get over this sustain business please, and stop comparing my full swing 7 iron to a Mickelson knock down.
Don't know what happened to the reply I posted to this 5 days ago...but anyway. If I was sensitive Wayne, I would delete your comments. I just found your initial comments to be a little strange "all who try to emulate him" If you knew, then you could demonstrate that which you talk about. :) There's enough people in the world that can narrate his action imo.
My swing is there for inspection. My playing record speaks for itself. You like to compare your swing to Hogan. I do the same thing. I was simply doing a side-by side and noting the differences. The idea was to be of help. After all, you asked me to look at it. You have great looking action, like I said first off. I'm 52 years old and have studied Hogan and tried to incorporate it into my competitive play for over 30 years. I'm simply offering you my observations based on experience.
Someone may have asked you to look at it, I didn't. Now that I know that, your comments make a lot more sense. I appreciate that you thought you were helping me (how's my ball-flight looking?). Everyone wants to help me, which is nice. I don't offer unsolicited advice to fellow professionals in the way that I 'thought' you did. Since someone obviously directed you to my page and you thought it was me, I'd say we got off on the wrong foot. Cheers.
Thanks for all the videos.. could you explain what you think/feel about how far apart the feet should be when clubbing up or down? Do you follow the diagram in Ben Hogan's book? I tried to figure it out once, but I don't think it is drawn to scale? Thanks again...thats a pretty sweet range btw.
looks like Jonatton Vegas!

So I lower going back but not down :/
There's a lack of sustain----That's very vague.
