@dadapuntocom Kirk did, Dave wrote the spider chord and the main riff. The solo was never thought of and neither where the lyrics when Dave was in the band, anyone that tells you other wise is one of those ass holes who tries to make Dave look better than what he really is.
They BOTH invent riffs, but til Load and Reload James receorded ALL RHYTHM GUITARS and just FEW leads - (NEM). Kirk wrote Enter Sandman riff, but James recorded it. DO YOU FEEL IT? THANK YOU, GOOD NIGHT!!!
James comes up with all the keys and riffs and lyrics. All Kirk does is write a few solos. James consults everything with Lars even though Lars musically has no clue what's going on, he just wants to piece it together to make it sound good. James is the main writer behind all of metallica's music. He is one of the greatest musicians alive.
What the fuck are you talking about, Lars is a really big part in the music making. He may not be the greatest drummer technically but musically hes a big part in the making.
Lars is the arranger of the band, you HAVE to give him credit. All Metallica songs are arranged by Lars. And, yes James writes most of the riffs but Kirk writes riffs too. "All Kirk does is write a few solos" is an incredibly wrong statement. If it was the case, Kirk wouldn't got writing credits in any song. Creeping Death and Disposable Heroes (which are in my Metallica Top 5) are almost exclusively Kirk's works.
@blackwolf222403 He wrote the main riff, yes - what I am saying is that Hetfield recorded all the riffs and harmonies on the first 5 albums, including Enter Sandman. They'd piece the songs together back in those days using riffs that the band had submitted - but Hetfield would do the actual track recording
lets get one thing straight. The only contribution to this song dave has made is the spider riff (which he was given credit for) the solo is way too feeling-filled to be daves..and as for all the solos in kill em all, if you listen to dave's version, much different from kirk's and i saw an interview (or read) where kirk said he changed all the solos except maybe the frist couple bars
@spykp actually all mustaine did was the spider riff,everything else was written by metallica & that solo is all kirk.i suggest next before telling someone to do research,u do some research of ur own.
@MrSFblack wikipedia, metal forums, metallica's official website... Kirk wrote NOTHING that has to do with ride the lightning (song). Don't play all wise if you know nothing dude... and yes the solo is mustaine's.
@spykp dave had nothing to do with the song besides the riff,if u knew anything u would know that by the time the started recording the demo dave had already been kicked out.kirk has said how he wrote that solo as well as others that he made to be much more different from dave's b/c dave normally just shreds & has no melody.if u want a link i will send it to u.
@worldofurin Nope, because certain record companies only allow one of the two franchises to license their songs. That's why songs like Enter Sandman, Paranoid, and Battery couldn't be transferred between Rock Band games
WHO WORTE THE SOLO? KIRK OR DAVE?

@BlackenedThunder and Enter Sandman, the song that gained them probably 20 million fans who never heard of Metallica :)

@Ozzyrox98
I know that too, but Sandman is nowhere near the quality of Creep and DH, so I decided not to add it.

Correction: this particular song had to be ripped from Rock Band since it was never (and now will never be) on Guitar Hero.
