  • Spektor is a gifted FREAK! Unlike anyone else I know, she remains an unwavering favorite

  • Her voice is quivering... The fact that she's scared means that she's putting actual emotion into her music. Beautiful.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful person. Reminds me of someone I loved and still do.

  • Oh yeah - Another awesome perf. - Reggie, you're the best - just So the best.

  • Me encanta

  • I CAN HARDLY SEE THE DISLIKE BAR UP THERE... that DEFINATELY says SOMETHING!!!

  • Her songwriting remembers me to Neil Young. That`s the greatest compliment an an artist can get. Love this, Regina.

  • This is such a sweet, sweet song, I don't get how people can have arguments over it.

  • I've commented about this before, but I just can't get over it. She has a very powerful voice. She doesn't just sing well, her voice actually seems to hum with power. This song really shows that quality, Blue Lips is another one where you can hear it.

  • she looks so sad at the end =(

  • It it just me or is Regina's hair fucking amazing??

  • Beautiful x

  • Never have i been so mesmerized by a performance. This must be God...

  • i love you regina! <33,

you play beautifully just like the sound of your voice,

you really are as beautiful as you sound,

    you are so gorgeous ^.^,

    such an angel,

you are absolutely amazing in every way =')

  • Will you marry me Regina Spektor. this question is not rhetorical either!

  • Brilliant, even live!

  • cheek out my song , rap remix of the call by regina spektor, please comment (see in my videos

  • J'adore.

  • Es ideal para musicalizar las películas de Wall Disney...

Cuando no engola hacia la lírica es más agradable...

    Me aburre...

  • @sxgtrgd the best artist. ever. raw talent right here. no need to ask what this is, just listen and figure it out for yourself. regina spektor is a genious and this is art.

  • @sxgtrgd amazing? :]

  • Su voz es tan bella <3

  • favourite song . sooo beautiful

  • she's not my type of woman but what a talent!

  • My favourite song ever...

  • I discovered her at random. Looking for new music to listen to on myspace like 6 years ago. Fell in love with her voice from start. @ gsl94, your absolutely right on that. Real talent is never notice by television because the artist prefer it that way. Selling out to corporate greed is the death of the experience for the artist!

  • how is it possible to sound this good live. unbelievable.

  • I so love the quiet parts and the twinkling piano. I'm crying during this song. It's so ridiculous. I have no idea why. The words don't even frickin make sense. It's just her. Something about her, and her voice and songwriting and her face, just all of it put together just moves me so much. She has such a thing that isn't even definable. This world still doesn't realize what we have with Regina Spektor.

  • I would love to be a song writer, but being even half as good as her would be apsolutaly amazing:-)

  • honestly how do you dislike this, I just don't get it.

    love you regina spektor. <3

  • Omg! I love this so much.. It brings up feelings that relieves sooo much stress

  • parabens

  • and ive never been so alone...and ive never been so alive

  • Love this song

  • She looks so beautiful her!

  • Surely the 32 dislikes are from the deaf?

  • @schmeeb Yeah, deaf, and blind too. Helen Kellers, 32 of them!

  • Who could honestly dislike this? Maybe this isn't your style of music, but if you can't see and admit that R.S. is a mega-talent, then you don't really like music at all.

  • @quememuera

lol, if I had a dime for every time I saw a comment like that for every genre of music found on youtube... xD

  • Such a perfect human being she is.

  • Who could ever dislike this video?? Obviously they don't appreciate true, stunning talent when then see/hear it. That is a crying shame. It really is.

  • i love how not many people have heard of her.. but the peaple who have are absolutley in awe of her

i love you regina <3 your my insperation

  • who could dislike this? its inventive, beautiful and underrated!

  • She's the best, now and forever! GBR

  • listen> /watch?v=E8hqAB_CVrI

  • What a weak applause. Id give more cheer than that.

  • 100% pure class. This is music.

  • dude...I fucking love her bangs.

  • beautiful

  • Saddest, sweetest song I've ever heard. She's so genuine, it breaks my heart.

  • Comment removed

  • @After0808 I call that a grandma-applause

  • You call that an applause? For a song that beautiful...That heartfelt...

  • i thought this was a really good song by the way it was played and sang but now i know what the lyrics truly meant it actually makes me want to cry at how beautiful it really is...

  • Joni Mitchell would be proud

  • the most erotic thing on youtube. As a musician, and a guy that plays many many instruments... I've gotta say... this is beautiful!!! Stunning!!!

  • i think thats its a crime that auto-tuned kesha is everywhere on the news but real talent like this is barely noticed....

  • @gsl94 yes!!!!! i am so happy to hear others think and say that!

  • @gsl94

Well, I don't see why you would want to be all over the news.

  • @gsl94 sooooooooo true!!

  • @gsl94 Yeah but at least it's really appreciated by fewer people. If Kesha lost her vocal chords in a soup tasting accident, no-one would give a shit.

  • @gsl94 Not a crime. People who notice it notice it, those you can't can't. Almost 1 million views, songs all over tv and film, I think she's noticed...

  • @gsl94 do you think that Regina Spektor would like to be everywhere on the news? People always complain that popstars like Justin Bieber and Kesha etc are always in the charts and in the news etc, but this music is beautiful, this music is what real, studied music fans appreciate and enjoy. I promise you, it would not be the same if every cunt in the street liked the music that we like, because then it would not be as special to us.

  • @BearAttackClub That's silly, though. Who likes something shouldn't change whether or not it's special; it either is or isn't. It's not affected by its fans' reactions. That mindset ties in with insecurity, with the thinking that, if she's popular, you're not as special for liking her, or that her music will somehow change. If more people liked her, that would be nothing but good, both for her business and the overall culture of the world. Would you have wanted John Lennon to not be popular?

  • beautiful. one of my heros, inspirations, and definitely a huge influence to music. absolutely incredible.

  • she nailed it here. you can feel 'it' listening to this performance. i'm not sure exactly what 'it' is, but you know when it's there and when it's not.

  • /watch?v=tXKHjQ07QDs

  • She's perfect, her voice is so harmonious, there aren't words for describing this singer.

  • such a beautiful voice

  • such a beautiful voice

  • ive watched so many videos of her performing this live and every time she performs it perfectly and beautifully.

  • her music is so rich with meaning and feeling.

    i love it.

  • is there two versions of this song? because when i downloaded it she said "i loved you first" a different way than she did in this one...am i wrong?

  • @iwantelz There are two versions, one is older off of the album "Songs", the other is faster and on the album "Begin to Hope".

  • This is the first Regina song I ever heard. This exact video. I fell in love.

  • i can listen to this when it's just recorded and just appreciate it for the beautiful song that it is,

but when i see or hear her singing it live, it makes me cry.

    everytime.

she's too beautiful and wonderful and weird to be human.

  • She is amazing! :) Love her music

  • I love how she doesn't just play the piano from her wrists, she plays with her body.

  • OH

    MY

    GOD !!

    SHE'S PERFECT!!

  • did anybody listen to this song? i'm not trying to be a jerk...nut not one of you know what its about

  • @bauzer45 Art is open to interpretation. Therefore, your statement fails. Not trying to be a jerk. Oh, and one more thing. Just saying "not trying to be a jerk", doesn't make your following statements non-jerkish, or you, not a jerk.

  • @Astrapsody you're right...im sorry....i think the songs about bubble gum and salt water snails...just my interpretation

  • @bauzer45 Right. Sarcasm doesn't make your statement any more valid. Every person is going to pull something different from songs like these. If one person finds something in this song that's personally meaningful, are you really just going to say "not one of you know what it's about", as if there really is some objective meaning and YOU are the ONE who knows what it is?

    Literature 101: take it.

  • @Astrapsody no but i was at an intimate concert at arlenes grocery in nyc where regina herself said what the song was about

  • @bauzer45 And that's fine. But in regards to interpreting songs (she said this in an interview), she said "why limit something that can be so limitless". She's obviously going to have her own understanding of each song she makes, but you can't just say that is THE meaning of the song. I don't see what you're not understanding about this. Could you tell me THE meaning of, say, "Reading Time With Pickle" or "Daniel Cowman"? Check. And. Mate.

  • @bauzer45 dude I know. I was just thinking the same exact thing.

  • Fucking sweet, the song and her.

  • i am crying...

  • Her voiice gave me the chiills:) thiis song remiinds me of a friiend of miine that I am secretly iin love wiith:) I'm goiin to send hiim the lyriics:)

  • @littlemissitaly17 Good idea :D But what if he's saying: What the fuck, you cut my hair while I was asleep??

    ;D

  • she speeds up in this vid a little :S nonetheless another amazing performance

  • @scorpiomooselove i agree :)

  • magnifique!!

  • if you like this song you all should check out one from the swedish idol who sing this song and her name is alice hagenbrandt

  • tear ;)

  • wonder bread literally contributes to cancer and death

  • I love it!

  • Please stop telling people what songs are supposed to be about or supposed to mean.

If it means something to you, that's enough. It'll never mean the same thing to anyone else.

  • @aceholepictures : IMO the only person who can validly make that request is the artist themself. I find it interesting to hear what others think it's about, and especially value the artist's original intent.

  • best performance ever :)

  • She's so beautiful with the very sweet voice I ever heard, and with this breathtaking song...ohh! She really is flower in the winter, like a sunshine. Truly lovely she is :D

  • she looks so beautiful in this video, her hair is amazing

  • i discover her today ... i am in love !!

  • Im Likke In Lovee With This Songg<3

  • Now that I know the meaning, it's so sad, but beautiful at the same time to be mentioned like that in a song.

  • @ArabellaCull oh come on...with miley cyrus out there? search her, you'll find stuff that anyone with taste in music would consider much worse than this. i personally like this song a great deal.

  • Can a song be too beautiful? :)

  • @AnthonyMinsky This track never fails to make me cry, its confirmation my soul is still alive :)

  • @AnthonyMinsky Never :)

  • i love samson...super...lovely song..!!!

  • It's funny you can tell Regina was really trying hard not to close her eyes in this vid. She's said before that she likes keeping her eyes closed when she sings, sometimes so she doesn't forget the lyrics. They probably told her to try to keep them open for the camera. Oh BBC...

  • No its a symbolic thing. When a woman cuts a mans hair, even in Bibical terms, it means she is draining the power from him. Making him more humble and human I guess. Like in Hallelujah. "She tied you to her kitchen chair, she broke your throne and she cut your hair and from your lips she drew the Hallelujah".

Love this song by Regina :)

  • Wow, so many interpretations - the song finally makes more sense to me.

Especially one comment about the narration switching from Samson ("You are my sweetest downfall, I loved you first" sounds to me like Samson) to the girl, whoever she may be. Whether it's Delilah, or the first Philistine girl, or even a metaphorical girl...there are so many layers to this song, which makes it affecting and poignant. Definitely my favourite of her songs!

  • beatiful

  • Beautiful song, beautiful voice, beautiful lyrics and obvious metaphor that we could project infinity of circumstances, thanks to the breadth of issues we find. I like the changes of pace and voice, I liked from the beginning and still enjoy listening.

  • beautifully put.

  • I don't know if I agree with him having cancer. The character of the song says she cuts his hair. Don't most cancer patients lose their hair directly from the chemo? In any case, I just figured this was a story where Samson accepts his loss of hair and strength to Delilah, rather than her doing it in secret. In that sense, he accepts her in his most vulnerable state, telling her that she did the right thing rather than the wrong thing. These aren't mutually exclusive interpretations, though.

  • @steesalt Generally their hair begins to fall out and get thin... some cancer patients choose to cut it rather let it look that way... I'm not saying that's the analogy here I really don't know... but it's certainly one way of looking at it.

  • how could 28 people not like this?

  • She's so beautiful and just.. amazing.

  • you people think way too much... just listen to the beautiful music

  • dont take everything literally... just a tip if you wanna dig in something more beautiful :)

  • if my memory serves me right . delilah is a not that bad at all . maybe she was just forced to do it . and maybe . delilah loved samson first but she was concerned for the phillistines . the "history books forgot about us and the bible didn't mention us" part was , their bright side of their realtionship was never mentioned . the, samson really loved delilah that she forgave her even if delilah cut his hair .

  • i personaly like the slower version much better but shes amazing

  • <3 She is truely an amazing singer and person, considering the meaning to her songs and the beauty with which she sings them. . <3

  • i understand the cancer thing. but i dont understadn what she means by "you are my sweetest downfall, i loved you first." someone help me??

  • i think she's referring to the bible story of samson. Samson fell in love with a woman, Delilah, who was a spy for the philistines with the duty of finding out the source of samson's immense strength. He tells her its his hair and she cuts it off leading to his capture by the philistines. hope this helps.

  • Samson was betrayed by Delilah... she cut his hair in his sleep.

  • she loved samson before delilah

  • such a beautiful voice..

  • now i understand the song... so beautiful...

actuallly have tears in my eyes :\

  • it's suppose to describe the death of her friend. she compares him to samson to show how strong he was to fight off cancer, even though he didn't make it. wonderbread was the only thing he could eat because he was so sick. "the bible didn't mention us" is her projecting that he was worth being famous for being a strong person and great friend, but nobody knew him. it's incredibley poetic, truly regina!

  • ohh nice analysis

  • I can see how that would work, even though the story is incredibly sad, I wonder if it's a real story..

  • @ChocolateRain68 the story of samson is in the bible :D

  • Well I agree with UCLAJEY,i thought it was about the first woman who married samson before the one in the Bible's story.. thats why she goes "I loved you first".. But Ur probably right too. Thats the beauty of these songs they can mean so many things

  • @happymsw That's really cool. It makes more sense. I really hate interpretations that try to be literal about them being Samson and Delilah. I knew just from the line "the bible didn't mention us' that it's not that story, it's a comparision. Thanks for sharing this.

  • @happymsw i KNEW this song was a about cancer =/ but I didn't know that was about her friend, sad song

  • @happymsw thats pretty sad. how do you know this?

  • @happymsw I think you're right with all the things you wrote, but I think the relationship she's describing is not just a deep friendship, but more: deep love! "You are my sweetest downfall!" and "I loved you first" aswell as "Told me I was beautiful and came into my bed" refer to a relationship which was unique and extremely important to her and "samson"...her lover! Makes me believe in real love, this song :)

  • @happymsw pump the breaks....you are so wrong it's incredible. the song is about falling out of love with someone. the references to samson are negative. samson with long hair had supernatural powers, once they were gone he was a regular human. shes saying at first he looked perfect but then she realized he was just a man. also shown by the wonder bread reference...what can be normal then a piece of white bread. him telling her her hair is red is symbolism for anger...he's saying relax your just

  • @happymsw angry. the bible part is about their love being not true. their love couldnt be mentioned in the bible because it wasnt true. also it was not mentioned in history books because it was insignificant. so yes the song is very poetic...

  • @happymsw Wow. That is so deep and genuis. Thanks for sharing that. I'm new to Regina and although I saw her on one of those late New York rock shows where they show the up and coming and advant garde. I remember how she stood out. Years later, this song was posted on Facebook and now I am slowly becoming obsessed. She is truly amazing.

  • @happymsw "he kissed me 'til the morning light" I don't think they were "friends" ha ha

  • @happymsw " he kissed me 'til the morning light" I don't think they were "friends" ha ha

  • @happymsw thank you! I've always wanted to know the meaning behind this!

  • @happymsw OMG!! thank you very much for the information. SInce i heard this song i fall in love but it never make sence to me. but now..... woooooo. IT´S EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN BEFORE. so, if you have anothers let me know. ok?? i´d be a pleasure to me.

  • @happymsw where have you heard that from? i really want to belive it's true becuase it would have been so beautiful. can't find any interview that she talks about the song or the lyrics.. :-/

  • @happymsw samson is her husband!!!

  • She's so beautiful.

  • i've always thought this song was about cancer effecting her lover? and she cut her own hair with him? haha never knew about the samson and delilah story

  • actually you were right. it is about her friend who had cancer, but she didn't cut her hair, she just compared it to the bible story

  • Amazing how music can make you feel connected to a perfect stranger. Maybe thats what makes her great, she draws me in man

  • Wonderful! Nice idea to use the samson und delilah story

  • @ktfreund Regina is very talented and very clever. I read somewhere this song was partly based on a relationship she had with some guy that unfortunately had cancer.

  • Oh, Isee. Than it fits even more!

  • @MizFMfaithful The faster Samson version is not from "Begin to Hope". You can find that version on the "Songs" album. I think that's version's a demo.

  • I really enjoy her music, I found her via a Fiona Apple Pandora station, and haven't been able to get enough of her. So talented.

  • beautiful song...like the singer ;)

  • I've been looking for the past 30 min and can't seem to find the version from "Begin to Hope" that is faster
