You're looking in the wrong places. Manga and anime are categorized based on the age and sex of the intended audience. Two words are important here: seinen and shonen. Shonen is for young boys and is basically for teenagers and adolescents (can't remember the exact ages). Seinen is for young men (or something) and goes to males 18-40. Fist of the North Star is a seinen manga (wikipedia says shonen, but that's obviously wrong). Naruto and Yu-Gi-Oh are shonen.

No... Fist of The North Star is most definitely a shonen anime/manga... I mean, why else would it run in Weekly Shonen Jump? I know Wikipedia isn't reliable, but with some real research you will find that it is actually shonen.

It just goes to show how much the genre has changed over the past two decades. One Piece, Bleach and the like are great, but they are very tame compared to classic shonen titles of the past such as Fist of the North Star and Dragon Ball (later parts, and mostly Z).

So by todays standards, I'd say FOTNS is probably seinen.
