The population of the US is 300 million, the population of Sweden is just under 10 million, so the US has 30 times the population, not 300 times. Assuming your other figures are correct, Sweden exports about twice as much per capita as the US, not 20 times as much.
Other than that, trying to relate exports in a given industry to population figures is just silly. The size of your country has nothing to do with how good your products are.
The Swedish JAS is probably the best serial produced aircraft in the world at this time... Yes, USA got the F22 but it's to expensive so now one can afford to mass procuce the plane... And it's not that much better then the JAS... Yes, USA would probably beat the whole world in airbattle, but not because they got the best plane but because they got so many of them!

Comparing the JAS to the F-22 is just silly, they're not even in the same class. You may as well compare a Sopwith Camel to an F-15. The only way to defeat an F-22 with a JAS-39 is throw enough of them at it to make it run out of ammo.
If you want a fair comparison the F-16 is the same class of aircraft. It also has a higher wing load limit, and a higher thrust to weight ratio. About the only thing that the JAS beats it on is the combat range. Notably, though, the F-16 is MUCH cheaper.

JAS = Jakt, Attack, Spaning = Hunting , Attacking , Scouting. There are few combatjets that even comes close to the functionality of this aircraft. The F-22 raptor is just a pure fighter (for all I know). And the Jas got that feature too. As you can see by reading this, you got 3 aircrafts in to one. And those three features makes it superior in any conflict.
No, they don't. The "3 aircraft in one" line is just a marketing gimmick, and the F-35 JSF is based on the same concept, but pretty much any modern combat aircraft is capable of conducting all 3 rolls which you've listed. Since I work for the airforce and fix aircraft for a living, I think I'm a bit more knowledgeable about their capabilities than you are. If you've got something intelligent to add, go ahead, otherwise there's little point to this discussion.

Every aircraft has it's strong points and it's weak points. Countries buy them according to what they think they'll need at any given point in time. There's certainly nothing WRONG with the JAS-39, but there's nothing ground-breaking or special about it. Like most multi-role aircraft it does several things well, but does nothing exceptionally well.
So there is nothing special about JAS-39? What do you think is the most common products are that Sweden exports? When it comes to warfare Sweden is #1 in tech exports. Saab, Eriksson and Bofors are making the most advanced and highly tech weapons and defence systems in the world. US force are the biggest buyers of Swedish warfaresystems. Sweden got the worlds best submarines in the world along with the best radarsystems. So please stop talk down on me and get some manners.

There is ground breaking features with the JAS 39. Fastest turn-around in the world, first in the world to use advanced avionics and electronics, first 4.5 generation fighter etc etc, so just a tip, its not smart to say the Gripen isnt groundbreaking :P

But as for beating the US air force, no, I'm sorry, but you're wrong. If all the airforces of the entire world teamed up against the US airforce, I'm still pretty sure the Yanks would emerge victorious. You cannot compete with US air supremacy, period.
Even if Sweden still had the largest airforce in the world, it wouldn't matter. As with many things in life, size isn't everything :)

The composition of your forces is a lot more important than the size, and on that front the US has everyone beat.
I'm not really intrested in the Iraq conflict, just that it's bad that people die in wars. I'm pro defence of the homeland. I was a conscript and I wouldn't blink to defend my land against a forein invader.
BTW, the US-forces uses some swedish weapons. The infantry anti-tank-shells (M/86, don't know the american name) and missiles are of swedish orgin, so is their RPG:s (The Carl-Gustav, one of the most reliant and simple on the market).

Yeah, they´re conscripts, but they are going to cancel it. On good or bad. We are a smal country and conscription works better with few people. But many of the accepted feel uncomfortable in service. And those who really want to join the forces won't get accepted (no triggerhappy ones in the forces).

Yes, but with the new military alliance (or cooperation) with Finland, my guess would be that in wartime, Finland would be the raw force and shield of the region. While Sweden's task would probably be specializing, acting as the sword (probably trough air and naval units).

Vissa folk i världen har det inte lika bra som oss. Därför bidrar vi i Försvarsmakten till att förebygga att konflikter uppstår eller återuppstår och dämpar konflikter som har uppstått. Man kan säga att vi bekämpar hoten mot mänskliga rättigheter, stabilitet, fred och demokrati på bortaplan så de inte behöver komma hit.
Om de kommer hit ska vi fortfarande försvara landet mot väpnat angrepp, även om det inte är det primära hotet idag.
Detdär ska man aldrig vara säker på, finns många galna människor som kan få makten i ryssland eller något annat land. även om det inte är särskillt sannolikt med krig just nu så ska man aldrig avskaffa ett militärt försvar.
i think sweden has a great quality of the material in our armed forces, but i admit that in numbers we are quite useless, would´nt stand a week if the russians came. I hope that the swedish goverment begins to take the "new Russia" a little bit more serious as a treath in the scandinavian & baltic area.

The population of the US is 300 million, the population of Sweden is just under 10 million, so the US has 30 times the population, not 300 times. Assuming your other figures are correct, Sweden exports about twice as much per capita as the US, not 20 times as much.
Other than that, trying to relate exports in a given industry to population figures is just silly. The size of your country has nothing to do with how good your products are.

The Swedish JAS is probably the best serial produced aircraft in the world at this time... Yes, USA got the F22 but it's to expensive so now one can afford to mass procuce the plane... And it's not that much better then the JAS... Yes, USA would probably beat the whole world in airbattle, but not because they got the best plane but because they got so many of them!

Comparing the JAS to the F-22 is just silly, they're not even in the same class. You may as well compare a Sopwith Camel to an F-15. The only way to defeat an F-22 with a JAS-39 is throw enough of them at it to make it run out of ammo.
If you want a fair comparison the F-16 is the same class of aircraft. It also has a higher wing load limit, and a higher thrust to weight ratio. About the only thing that the JAS beats it on is the combat range. Notably, though, the F-16 is MUCH cheaper.

JAS = Jakt, Attack, Spaning = Hunting , Attacking , Scouting. There are few combatjets that even comes close to the functionality of this aircraft. The F-22 raptor is just a pure fighter (for all I know). And the Jas got that feature too. As you can see by reading this, you got 3 aircrafts in to one. And those three features makes it superior in any conflict.

No, they don't. The "3 aircraft in one" line is just a marketing gimmick, and the F-35 JSF is based on the same concept, but pretty much any modern combat aircraft is capable of conducting all 3 rolls which you've listed. Since I work for the airforce and fix aircraft for a living, I think I'm a bit more knowledgeable about their capabilities than you are. If you've got something intelligent to add, go ahead, otherwise there's little point to this discussion.

Every aircraft has it's strong points and it's weak points. Countries buy them according to what they think they'll need at any given point in time. There's certainly nothing WRONG with the JAS-39, but there's nothing ground-breaking or special about it. Like most multi-role aircraft it does several things well, but does nothing exceptionally well.

Saab, Eriksson and Bofors are making the most advanced and highly tech weapons and defence systems in the world. US force are the biggest buyers of Swedish warfaresystems. Sweden got the worlds best submarines in the world along with the best radarsystems. So please stop talk down on me and get some manners.

Seriously, you're deffinitely not #1 in weapons exports - that honour goes to Russia, followed by the US, France, Germany, and the UK.
Anyway, none of that has anything to do with the JAS-39. As I said earlier - if you have something intelligent to add (eg. a detailed statistical breakdown of the capabilities of the JAS vs other aircraft in the same class), feel free to post it. Otherwise I think this conversation ends here.

You claim you work with airplanes and you cant even read? We are #1 in the world to export systems,radar,gps,lasers,optic,chips and those sort of stuff when it comes to warfare. Do you even know why AMD got thier reasearchlab in Sweden? Dude, stick to airplanes coz your knowledge about Sweden aint top notch at all.
And our biggest exports(numer of product and weight) are wood and ore.

There is ground breaking features with the JAS 39. Fastest turn-around in the world, first in the world to use advanced avionics and electronics, first 4.5 generation fighter etc etc, so just a tip, its not smart to say the Gripen isnt groundbreaking :P

Yes, you're right, Sweden has a very well trained military, and some amazing equipment. I know, I've worked with them, and I deffinitely respect them. But as for beating the US air force, no, I'm sorry, but you're wrong. If all the airforces of the entire world teamed up against the US airforce, I'm still pretty sure the Yanks would emerge victorious. You cannot compete with US air supremacy, period.

Well, before the fall of the wall Sweden had one of the biggest airforces in the world. In the fifties the third largest and later the fift largest.
And notably, the "Viggen" is so far one of the few or even the only aircraft in the world to have gotten gunlock on a "Blackbird".

Even if Sweden still had the largest airforce in the world, it wouldn't matter. As with many things in life, size isn't everything :)
For instance, in 2003 the Iraqi military stood at 375,000 fighters while the invading force was roughly 263,000, yet the war was over in mere weeks with only 173 KIA on the allied side, and something like 20,000 on the Iraqi side. The composition of your forces is a lot more important than the size, and on that front the US has everyone beat.

I'm not really intrested in the Iraq conflict, just that it's bad that people die in wars. I'm pro defence of the homeland. I was a conscript and I wouldn't blink to defend my land against a forein invader.
BTW, the US-forces uses some swedish weapons. The infantry anti-tank-shells (M/86, don't know the american name) and missiles are of swedish orgin, so is their RPG:s (The Carl-Gustav, one of the most reliant and simple on the market).

Yes, the swiss make some excellent weapons systems, that's for sure. I'm not actually American, I'm Canadian, and we also still use the Carl, although the older version is starting to become obsolete. We were thinking of replacing it entirely until the development of the new rounds and tubes.
I didn't know you guys still had conscription, but it's good to know you're a patriot. Me, I volunteered to join up. All our forces are volunteer-only.

Yeah, they´re conscripts, but they are going to cancel it. On good or bad. We are a smal country and conscription works better with few people. But many of the accepted feel uncomfortable in service. And those who really want to join the forces won't get accepted (no triggerhappy ones in the forces).

Yes, but with the new military alliance (or cooperation) with Finland, my guess would be that in wartime, Finland would be the raw force and shield of the region. While Sweden's task would probably be specializing, acting as the sword (probably trough air and naval units).

Vissa folk i världen har det inte lika bra som oss. Därför bidrar vi i Försvarsmakten till att förebygga att konflikter uppstår eller återuppstår och dämpar konflikter som har uppstått. Man kan säga att vi bekämpar hoten mot mänskliga rättigheter, stabilitet, fred och demokrati på bortaplan så de inte behöver komma hit.
Om de kommer hit ska vi fortfarande försvara landet mot väpnat angrepp, även om det inte är det primära hotet idag.

i think sweden has a great quality of the material in our armed forces, but i admit that in numbers we are quite useless, would´nt stand a week if the russians came. I hope that the swedish goverment begins to take the "new Russia" a little bit more serious as a treath in the scandinavian & baltic area.
