  • Sounds easy and effortless.I have played with many bone players, none can even come close to the ease and and control delivered here. He taught Sinatra much of what he knew about breath control and long phrases.

  • 3 people hate themselves.

  • I was just a child when my parents played this on the phono, and Tommy, Harry and Glenn were the absolute best. But, Artie Shaw was a genius.

  • Thanks to the Twilight Zone for pointing me here.

  • I really dream deeply in ecstasy when I hear this song.

  • TALENT! PURE SKILL!

  • einfach nur schööön

  • anybody have tips to get a sound like this, long tones with a slow to fast vibrato, what?

  • @Guitarhreomaster16 He's using a slide vibrato. As in, moving the slide down slightly and then back up to the note.

  • My favorite part of this song is the long trombone sound @ 0:56 seconds.Still madly in love with this song since discovering 20 years ago

  • that vibrato at the beginning made me jizz my pants

  • When TD told Frank Sinatra that he needed to work more on his breath control, Frank listened. That is just one of the reasons Frank was such a good singer in his era.Tommy Dorsey knew his music.

  • absolutely one of the most underrated jazz musicians of all time. this and "song of india" set the standard for future breath control & range phenoms like watrous and green.

  • THIS IZ SOME GANGSTA SHIT

  • wow :) me encanta

  • It is impossible to listen to this, without feeling emotion. Thanks for the post.

  • Excelente un grande muy bueno

  • This is USA World War II music. Young people today may not understand it, but they don't understand the violence, fears, and intensity of WWII. People, including the US Military, needed this music to step back from the war, if only for a few minutes. My grandmother and dad liked this, and so do I.

  • I love instrumental music, soothing to the soul & relaxing <3

  • Twilight Zone S.2 "Static"

  • I feel that my heart will explode momentarily. Such haunting romanticism is almost too much to bear. Thank you again Mr. D.

  • M favorite Dorsey song!!!

  • This is the BEST music ever ! dad play this tune on the piano . He pasted at 92 .

When I hear all thease good swing tunes , I think of us playing in the band togther.

  • THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS

  • very special and beautiful sound

  • great Dorsey forever!

  • After all these years, there is still only one player that can do this properly, and it's Dorsey.

  • Que maestro !!!!! aun sigue enseñando como se toca el trombón!

  • that's really good trombone playing

  • I'm Lovin' It !!!

  • Thanks to 6661029 for posting this. Dorsey had the sweetest sound on the trombone I ever heard. I can't believe someone actually disliked this clip. I guess making a "thumbs down" is so easy, even a cave man can do it.

  • It doesn't get any better.

  • try his trombonology. incredible embrochure. dorsey played trumpet as well, which might explain his phenomenal range.

  • I have been playing the trombone for over 24 years and I still listen to this a couple times a week. Its Pure Perfection. I hope to play this well someday.

  • Thanks god to have borned after this solo. I just love it.

  • A classic ... great reed passage

  • timeless music

  • an episode of the Twilight Zone brought me here :)

  • @darkprince65 ME TOOO THE EPISODE IS CALL STATIC BASED ON A RADIO

  • Unbelievable!! I immediately bought a cd of Tommy Dorsey from Amazon after hearing this. Can't wait!!

  • real music?

  • @bobmarleypkr Sarcasm?

  • ummmh Tommy is to Trombone like Sidney is to Soprano Sax <3 thx for the post

  • My Mom and Dad danced to this music on their wedding day in 1942 - the day after Doolittle's raid on Tokyo. It is arguably one of the finest works of an American composer. My Dad made it back from the war in Italy and together my mother and father raised a wonderful family. God Bless America!

  • The all-time Best on a slide-trombone.

  • Woody Allen put this on Radio Days.

  • Thanks to TV shows such as "Dancing With The Stars", this beautiful music is making an astounding comeback. I play baritone sax in the "Moonlight Serenaders" big band, in Akron, Ohio, and our schedule is becoming busier every year. Interestingly, the audiences are mostly younger folks, in addition to the seniors. This is the most beautiful and most relaxing music ever recorded, and that's coming from a fan of '50s and '60s rock and roll.

  • @sevenlitre Just been listening to a double LP called "This Is Tommy Dorsey" & it's great.Contains 20 tracks, including this track,"Star Dust'/ "Marie"/ "Song Of India'/ "Josephine" / "Boogie Woogie'.This is a wonderful LP & i play it on my 38yo Thorens turnable, which sounds great. What a fantastic sound & those arrangements are amazing. It would have been out of this world,to have seen him live. It's good to see some people keeping his sound & memory alive.

  • My Dad used to play this on the trombone as my Mom accompanied him on the piano. They were married in 1943 and he passed away in 2005...she was at his bedside...still madly in love and married.

  • @madisonhack aweee, that made me tear a bit :') God bless your dad and I hope your mom is as happy as ever :)

  • @madisonhack omg that must have been really sad.. your story makes me cry already.. My father plays this too from time to time :) I love it.

  • @madisonhack sweet

  • @madisonhack sweet!

  • @madisonhack

Real sad to hear of your dad going like that.

Hope your mums cherishes the good times that they spent, and also the thoughtfull children they raised.

Best wishes to all your family.

  • @madisonhack So sorry to hear of your loss. They sound like two wonderful people.

  • This one of the classics of it's era and of all time.

  • My mom told me she saw him play in Van Cortland Park in NYC. God bless Mom and God bless this old time music. I love it.

  • My old friends of past!! I Bless them!

  • Simply beatiful! One of the best from one of the greats!

  • Recorded this with my landlord playing piano to play at my wedding for the groom/bride dance...lost the tape since then wish I still had it. Played it in B flat which is wrong should be in D but I couldn't hit the high notes then in that key...came out good and I'm still married!

  • Beautiful song...haunting and melancholy but very beautiful!

  • Being a trombone player myself i know first hand how hard it is to play like that with that amount of expression.

  • @coletranelover I figured out what key it is in, D. Goes up to a high C# in the beginning, if your chops aren't in shape forget about it.

  • This is such a difficult piece to perform, I wonder if we'll ever see a live performance on You Tube...I mean taped live in the day.

  • @Nabokov50 if you watch the full movie clips of "A Song is Born" he performs the solo part of this live, then speeds it up into "Marie". That's probably the closest you're gonna find to a live performance on here, that I know of

  • Stupendous playing of this haunting masterpiece! Thank you for posting!

  • What fantastic breath control. A sublime piece of trombone playing.
