You don't have to believe in God to like the song, it is not about God, even if Hallelujah means "Glory to God", the song says that even if a love, passionate love is humilliating "she ties you to the kitchen chair, she cuts your hair" with loss of manhood, it is so wonderful that an Hallelujah comes out from your lips. "Even if it all went wrong.." he believes life, love is worth it..
