I'd like to see T-90MS and M1A2 rolling side by side taking on a bunch of Islamist terrorist bastards and use their guts to grease their treads. Seriously, there is practically no reason for the U.S. and Russia to be enemies or even rivals. There is a common enemy and it has nothing to do with old Cold War rivalries, it has to do with a bunch of religious fanatics who have done harm to both our great nations.

@Maza945 Why? M1A2 is a heavily upgraded and modified M1 tank and T-90MS is a heavily modified and upgraded T-72 IIRC (both are built upon 30+ year designs). They're both exceptional weapons platforms that are a match for each other just as are most modern MBTs. Generally speaking it pretty much comes down to who spots the other first and gets off the first shot... and maybe more than a little luck.

@1977Yakko Yeah... but the T-90MS's armor has been tested and proven to be able to withstand a fair amount of impacts from modern tank shells, mainly in front, but on the sides to a lesser extent. M1A2s are getting taken out from low tech RPG-7s to the side armor. If the M1A2 gets the first shot, which is a good possibility, odds are it might not penetrate the armor. If that T-90MS gets the second shot, which it will, it'll go through the M1A2 easily.

M1 needs an armor upgrade, badly.

@Ariana321 The battle of spear vs.shield is as old as war itself and the spear is usually on top. A much smaller and cheaper rocket/missile or other high velocity projectile can disable or kill most modern armored vehicles. It's part of the reason some "experts" think the tank is obsolete. I don't think that's the case as tanks provide some shock value to enemy troops and having a mobile 120-125mm gun is always handy but tanks are vulnerable (some more than others of course).

@Ariana321 Also, M1 can be fitted with reactive armor as well. It's not that M1 lacks armor (it doesn't weight 60+ tones for no reason) but certain systems on the tank need better coverage (I've heard of the electronics being taken out in a single hit in the right spot). Urban environments like the M1 faced in Iraq are among the worst for tanks to be in. The U.S. Army came up with TUSK (Tank Urban Survival Kit) which provides more reactive armor and the slat (cage) armor.

@1977Yakko I'm already aware of TUSK and whatnot. But the fact that it even needs all of that extra stuff piled on is the real issue though. Its standard 1st gen Chobham armor is just outdated these days. It was good for its time, but against more modern munitions? Or even some older stuff, it just isn't cutting it. The British Challenger 2 can be hit by all of the common things killing the M1 today, and the most that happens is the crew gets annoyed. M1A3 needs to move up to "Dorchester" armor.

The worlds best trained military :) That's what I think! these guys training is fucking brutal which makes them brutal too but they know how to use that in combat :) My salutes and honors to Russian Army, from Finland which army training sucks, all we do here is sit around and laze around compared to these guys

@ThePsihopatul Brutal hazing doesn't equal effective combat training. It's so brutal that a large number of Russians go out of their way to avoid conscription. Some may equate that to meaning tougher troops but again, the act of being brutal isn't a substitute for being effective. That's not to say that training shouldn't be tough and hard for military service members of any military force but there are degrees to being effective and just being brutal for the sake of it.

T-90 is superior to any tank in the world except Leopard 2A6. And yet Russian army developed new T-90MS and new T-99 is in development.

@sukhoi235 okay according to the leopard tanks, it gives high comfort and space to the crew of the tank, but as for the t-90 does it involve any new changes in the "ms"? the turret looks slightly, i say again, slightly similar to the original t-90 except with newer armour plates to give it a more modernized look to it. So correct me if im wrong if the turret of the t-90 still remains tight for the crew members

Unlike Leopard or NATO tanks T-90 uses auto loader which means one crew member less in tank. Turret of MS is slightly larger than original T-90 turret and all ammo has been moved to back of turret like in NATO tanks which gives crew much more space and better protection. MS has much stronger engine than original T-90. Electronics are French and defense systems are Russia`s newest.

Also here is one good video to check out where you can see how bigger new turret is and there are few good shots of interior where you can see there is much more space than in previous Russian tanks and also that now observation systems are modernised and commander has much better view, also MS is connected to new GLONASS satelite system so it always gets updates on enemy movement from satelite.

Leopard`s ammo is stored just like in T-90MS, behind crew in turret. That saves a lot of space in tank and in case of impact its built with so called "blow-out panels" that literally send all force from explosion up in the air and tank and crew stay pretty safe.

@Xiia0Sn00pY eh. not really, i think its more that the US and german's have more money for military expenditure and have made constant little upgrades and given them a new varient every time (e.g the M1A1 TUSK, ect) while the russians have made a lot of upgrades all at once (T-90MS) all while the US has had more show in the media and public eye while a fair few of the things about the T-90 still aren't known in detail like the Shtora anti laser guideance system (preventing lasers)
