The best torrent site is TorrentSpy, but it's gone. A alternative site to TorrentSpy is BTjunkie, a large torrent indexing website. Then the best torrent client is Vuze, µTorrent has a huge number of users because it's lightweight but for better interface, easy-to-use, and user-friendly use Vuze.
I'm not sure whether or not to download Utorrent or not. I'm worried about getting a virus or gettiing caught with this shit on my laptop...not sure what to do...
@Jcm9991 uTorrent itself is a Bit Torrent manager, it's totally Legal, and there are Legal distributions on ThePirateBay as well, but if you're so concerned, don't do it on Windows, Windows has a hidden locked file which contains a record of EVERYTHING you've downloaded. Linux, on the other hand, doesn't, so if you delete the entire OS and partition, you could get away with it. Still, the chances are extremely rare that someone will burst down your door to arrest you and fine you.

P2P downloads can be faster, or slower, than regular downloads depending on how many Seeders there are.
