ive trained with dennis, made me look like i dont even know bjj his is slick, i feel sorry for anyone who fights him cus there ganna go thru hell. A real gent, thanks for taking care of me in rio, Kam.
I lived in Central Oregon when he came to town and started teaching kickboxing. He did an open invitational where his students beat everyone in the first round, aside from one guy from our school who won. The crazy thing is he didn't even really know groundfighting back then until he started hanging out with JT Taylor. Now he lives in Brazil and kicks ass at it. I agree with Kamtusung, he was a gentleman and was very humble, despite being such a badass.
Good memory! Been a while since I have lived in my hometown of Bend. I remember well the first time JT and I met at a Jiu-jitsu class in Eugene, OR when we where both white belts. He spent some time in Seattle after that, intensively training with Marcelo Alonso and I kept my focus on stand up. When we met up a year later he helped me to build my base that earned me my blue belt. One of my great training partners that really helped me along my path to black belt. *continued*
@19pimenta77 You are correct. I trained with Shawn Jewell. Since then I haven't trained a lot, but fighting is still my favorite sport. Brazil is on my list of places to travel. If that happens, I'll definitely shoot you an email first. Congrats on all your success, man. You deserve it. Not only because of your hard work, but because you have the demeanor and respect that a martial artist should have, as opposed to many of the meatheads out there now who did it for the wrong reasons.
The "open invitational" must have been one of the seven fights I promoted and held in Central Oregon (High Desert Challenge, High Desert Brawl, etc.) before passing the torch to JT, who has built the fight promotion into a great event. Good times! Where you form Sean Jewel's School? If you are ever in Brazil stop by and train at GJJ in Rio. Thank you for the post. - Dennis Asche
