  • Why can't they put the high-level waste (old fuel) into the DGR?

  • This'll help me with my project. Sort of.

  • I wanna work here ;)

  • Humans are a virus that's out of control, maybe nature will get rid of us.

I hope we'll get smarter and share this planet with other species*

  • Question how hot is a Nuclear Bundle after comming out of a reactor ?

  • LFTR and MSR type breeder reactors will be able to burn this waste once they come online- if ever. Meantime we spend wads of cash storing the stuff, another lobying group plugged into the government tax and spend cycle..............

Enjoy the drama we in the USA did trying to develop our Yucca Mountain storage site........

  • all these ppl in these places make very large salaries and costs us a flippin fortune.

  • There is no such thing as safe nuclear waste? please. Do some research in radiation and nuclear power. I cant speak for canada, but here in the EU we recycle (i.e reuse) 95% of the nuclear material. The high radioactive waste is stored in facilities for about 50-60 years. The stuff that comes out after that you could touch and rub on your skin if you wanted. That stuff is dug 500m underground and in 50 years is indistinguishable from the natural background radiation of the rock. educate yourself

  • @CerberusBrown Please name your sources. Your 50-60 year time span contradicts the documentry "into entenity". The Onaklo storage facility in Finland is being prepared to store waste for 10,000 years and all the precautions that go with keeping it safe for this period of time. Why would they go to this trouble if you can "rub it on your skin" after 50-60 years? I also see from your profile you're 21 years old? That's not many years on this earth to be making such confident statements!

  • @CerberusBrown Please watch this video to get a better understanding of how long the waste will be dangerious for, watch?v=JmU3c3lkBws&feature=related

  • @CerberusBrown Citation please.

  • Buried this deep I doubt it will come out and do any damage, even if the vault collapse and is long forgotten. Way too fucking deep.

  • this shit is fucking dangerous!!!!

  • It's pathetic how some individuals ,who call themselves human, belief this crap. There is no such thing as safe nuclear energy. Future generations will suffer our selfish habits. We keep polluting and destroying mother Earth. Corporations keep buying corrupt elected politicians (puppets) who sell lucrative and harmful policies.

  • Jct: Luckily, the safe management of our nuclear waste almost forever or it blows up is being done right at Pickering and Darlington where it's close to the Ontario population. And Pickering just had a nuclear accident dumping radioactivity into Lake Ontario! Better vote for a lawyer to handle this technological catastrophe! Har har har. And don't forget the Bruce dump though there aren't as many people there to harm.

  • OPG, you should be ashamed of yourself. Think of generations of children thousands of years from now that will have to put up with your short-sighted vision of the "future".

  • @bradyculous, You might to take the time to watch the YouTube Video "Is Nuclear Waste Really Waste?" on "GoogleTechTalks" YouTube Channel. That's of course You find time by NOT Bashing other Channels! You might it Interesting & Educational!

  • the waste is safe. It"s not like have to bury it underground in reinforced concrete.look what we are being told about in japans reactors,no need to worry about radiation especially alpha and beta radiation.and i completely trust are government and corporations because they are always put us before their interests

  • I loved when she said at 7:32 - 7:35, that stored waste will be in a "willing host community" as if anyone would be ok with having nuclear waste under their homes, schools, hospitals, and churches. That was by far a ploy for someone is going to have this mess chilling in their neighborhood.

  • Why is a water table important to have?

  • @MoDoLoMo the water table is ground water. witch is what fuels rivers, lakes and other things of the such.

  • dgr is #1 place youd want to be in a zombie apocalypse

  • The waist must be placed on the receding edge of a tectonic plate and then naturally be forced into the earths core naturally recycling the radioactive material.

  • @JonathonDrakeB

    waste****........=P

  • @Arriss3 lol thanks.. never said I was smart

  • No one really knows what to do exactly with high level waist, seeing is most of the used fuel maintains a considerable amount of dangerous radioactivity sometimes for a million years. Any containment we use breaks down, not to mention radioisotopes can penetrate stainless steal which can last many generations. Bottom line we have no element we can manipulate at this date that can contain this waist as long as its dangerous. Burring it is sweeping it under the rug.

  • Store it in a closed underground mines. Like the mines in south africa where there are mines upto 10km deep. Do to the laws of gravity, it will never effect us.

  • those high level containers wont last 250,000 years. the pyramids are only a few thousand years old and look how worn down they are!

  • @minggordon don't environmentalist say that styrofoam lasts forever? so then use that.

  • @minggordon It is 25k years not 250k years.

  • @Cheburdac 25k 250k whats it matter point is they will last a few thousand at best.

  • i would never come to your country because you drive amongst high level radioactive waste.no thanks

  • @turborota you cant drive near it beacouse it is surrounded by a police escort and normally they move it by rail

  • idk why they dont just put that crap on rockets and blast it off to space, its not like where going to be running out of space anytime soon

  • @K1ngME89

Every heard the expressions Co2-emissions and Greenhouseeffect ?

I´ve got anohter idea let´s put some radioactive waste in food for americans , they´ll die all earlier or later at fatty degeneration and stupidity ....

  • @DEIFADDER don't be racist, your country made that mistake before. I have nothing against Germans but you sir are an asshole.

  • @DEIFADDER

    clean water act, prevents that,.

  • @DEIFADDER trees use carbon dioxide and produce oxygen .carbon can be diminished naturally. how do you diminish nuclear waste that has a half life of 250000 years?you just get more and more of the stuff .its greedy and stupid...ill bet the nuclear industry are behind this massive climate change scare campaign after.all scientists will want to look after themselves so will the world bank when they profit from emission trading scemes ..did you enjoy paying for greeces debt from the last scam?

  • @K1ngME89 its to heavy. it cost alot per kg to send in to space (over $10,000 per kg), the fuel is very dense, it whats the good about nuclear waste, a very lager warehouse can hold the whole worlds nuclear fuel waste.

  • were gonna be digging all the old rods up eventually to reuse it. its actually just cheaper right now to mine it. but once we start to run out well be recycleing our old stuff

  • @UniteForgetLeftRight

just pay california to shut up and store it there as they are in heavy debt. kills 2birds with one stone

  • lmfao. i wasent listenin in our lesson and we have a test tomorro :| GCSE test :O

  • ok toxecryz that won't happen

the problem with nuclear power is it' safety

if a nuclear powerplant has a SMALL leak on the misessippi we wood make that we can't fish in the guilf of mexico,in the rivers in the us, and contamanait a good deal of our drinking watter

steel and concreet sopose to hold nuclear rods ........ WTF no lead lead is the only meatal dens enuf to stop nuclear rays

  • What happens if we get a earth quake and the land splits right where we put all the waste ?

  • the waste goes deeper into the earth

  • Excellent vid, thnx for posting. I wonder what the radiation level is of those used fuel rods? Anyone know?

  • @hellomycognomen like the big bang!..

  • so, it will all just end out getting stored underground?. and thats it? does not anyone see the flaws in those plans? it takes only a moron to support nuclear power!!! now-, soler, wind and river/lake-dam powers are the answer!!!

  • its a terrible answer because there are so many things we can do with the waste to reuse it and reduce the radioactivity. the US doesnt do it because its 'afraid' we will have plutonium on the black market. to be honest, now that korea kinda has a bomb, really i tihnk who cares.

  • we need nuclear energy bud, were runnin out of oil and coal, so unless your like 60 you should be worried bc theres gonna be an energy crunch if we no1 supports nuclear energy, and were basically fucked. Theres not enough energy in what your proposing, its too costly. Also what you say might be more credible if you spelled 'solar' correctly.

  • f*** you!!!

  • Laser fusion has proved itself to be a worthy study, after all. It's on the internet. Check it out. Nuclear power is too dangerous, in terms of waste. We have more options than Nuclear fission. And, if people weren't so damn wasteful of energy, there wouldn't be as much of a problem, would there?

  • It's great to be informed about this kind of stuff. I had no idea that handling even the slightest of radioactive waste was so precise and complicated.

Undoubtedly expensive...but I'd say cleaner than most other methods of power generation...if handled and later disposed of properly, of course.

  • there isnt enough radioactive materials in the world for us to fill more than a few square miles with waste.

  • instead of putting the used fuel in pools, why don't they just put them in a freezer?

  • it makes heavy water, heavy water is valuable

  • really? whats heavy water?

  • Tritium and Deuterium. Its water with extra neutrons that can be used for a variety of things

  • Im guessing that's because it costs money to make a freezer work. Factories do the same thing... they cool down their things in water.

  • lol the only thing that sounds safe is da music xD

  • OPG FOR THE WIN

  • i live in pickering and seen the power station a few times me and my friend took our pedal bikes and rode down to a beach right by it.

  • you lucky mo foe that plant is awesome

  • so nuclear energy is just going to cause us to "honeycome" the earht til it collapses? i don't like some of these ideas but very informative vid thanks for posting

  • Sun will blow up b4 that can happen

  • Nuclear NRG is so efficient that it will take centuries upon centuries to generate that much waste.

  • very informative video. thanks opg. i think we should all be discussing these types of issues - about energy supply. education is the way to find the best way to go green.
