Hi Terry, I see you`re back in the shed again.Nice to see you sharing your knowledge and tips with everyone. How`s the MZ going by the way..any updates on that?
I reckon I know more about the internals of a Jawa than any other engine I've ever tinkered with..LOL Great video, very informative as always Terry. Looking forward to the BIG fire up ...
@terence20001 Yes I get mixed emotions terry, have I forgot anything, think think think!! ha ha. On the plus side, I get excited to hear that first spluttering of life leading to hopefully smooth running, job done! :-) Good luck and make sure you film it..:-)
Thanks Terry! Every time one of your videos I time travel back about 18yrs to very happy times spent with an engineer neighbour man call Harry!! Bless him he let me hang around and help with his projects, a BSA, an MG TF I think 1949 model. He gave me my first project of a 1973 Suzuki TM 125 with a ceased engine and ready for the scrap! But 6 mths later she was my gleaming pride and joy! He passed 10yrs ago now and I think of him everyday and seeing your vids takes me back to such calm and happ
It's comments like this that make the video worth putting together .
I know how good it feels to save a bike from the scrapyard , i managed to save a triumph tiger cub in around 1985 , it is the best feeling hearing it burst back to life .
Enjoyed the video thorourghly...since I've never had the primary cover off of the type 477, I was wondering... does the crankshaft and transmission driveshaft have keyslots, or does the primary gear and clutch basket just pinch on the beveled ends of the shaft? Looked like the primary drive assembly went in quite easy...just curious...hope all is well with you my friend...looking forward to the next post...Zip...
@zip343 the primary gear just sits on the cone of the crank pin and is locked with a nut, the outer clutch basket is rotating on a bushing on transmission input shaft and is held in place with the inner clutch basket, which sits on the beveled end of the shaft... and it is also locked with nut and a special keyed washer. Personally, I use loctite in this place, I once ended up with lose clutch :)
I was'nt sure if you had done any work on the primary side ,
but remember you likeing the gearchange / kickstart .
Im glad you like the vid there's so much to condence into 10 minites
im never sure if i've covred all the important thing's :-)
But primary sprocket does tighten straight onto a taper , pretty good aswell ,hard to get them off somtimes l.o.l. and clutch centre has a splined shaft where the clutch basket spins on a plain bush & bushing .
Your my hero xxx

@terence20001
oh yeah the engine is strong but a lot of smoke but do not mind because it is a nice unit and has a very simple yet robust design and
I myself have been collecting antique motorcycles and think of buying a Jawa Twin Sport 350

Hi Mark
I car'nt help myself l.o.l.
I enjoy tinkering in the shed it get's me out from under my wife's feet :-)
The m.z. project bike will start soon as the weather get's better and the c.z. is painted , i just wanted to get it running for now .
So the plan is finnish this engine and fit it back in bike ,then finnish painting on c.z. project ready for the road then i'll get stuck into the M.Z.
Hope all is well
All the best

You should also change the kikstarter gland ring, if not, the oil will go out there ever time!

Yes this is right , anything made of rubber should be renewed although i dont always replace the O ring on gear lever but i bet i have to now :-) .
Thanks for mentioning this as its important and i car'nt always fit all details into a 10 minite vid so appriciate you raising the subject .

There are many different ways of approach to a rebuild as most develop the best way that suits their needs ,
So this is how i carry out builds but its good the hear comment of how others tackle a full build .
