  • I used to hitch on dogs, but then I took an arrow to the knee

  • Hatching a dog? Nice

  • Skateboarding died in the early 2000's

  • @TheChumzo how so?

  • Skateboarding was elegant, you looked for the longest smoothest hill and tricks came once in a while after you mastered the art of riding. Compare that to todays scrape and scratch, grunge hipp hopp shit... doesn't compare at all.

  • my father told me about his days riding his board and now im doing it

  • They just look like they are having more fun than todays skaters.

  • يوووه كدش

يا قدمكم يا أهل الرياض هع هع

  • It just looks more like long boarding

  • Was it just me or did you see Conan skating 1:43 - 1:57

  • Whats that tumbleweed doing on your head??

  • fun :)

  • this driving below a tunnel an stuff is idiotic

  • know your origin kids

  • i'm pretty sure most of these videos are of the z-boys. i can spot tony alva and his curly hair in most of them.

p.s. i have the orange board with the black grip tape at 0:24 . it's a santa cruz

  • Now i see why helmets meant so little back then...

  • that afro... nuff said!

  • Mute the Video. Start at .55 & listen with RJD2 - 1976.

  • Most of those skaters were surfers, you can see the similarities of the surfing and the skateboarding back then.

  • If they had internet back then they wouldn't have this video. And if we left the internet, we could film a video like this.

  • back in the day they were more about the duckin' and weavin' rather than the jumps and air nowadays

  • GoPro

  • wtf how they do that

  • 4:27 lol. who else noticed.

  • And the boards that time were about 5.7. Epic skating right there. I wish I has a set like that.

  • I miss this kind of skateboarding. Today it's like push, push, kick flip, kick flip push, push, back flip, fall down. We use to just go in the 70's, just zoom.

  • afro dude look like he got his legs waxed

  • they make it look like surfing

  • are these the sames guys from lords of dog town?

  • this is some groovy shit

  • I'm from '90 and this shit is dope. This is where is started boys, learn your roots!

  • the slalom dude in the helmet sure knows how to fall :p

  • countryrock was the music of choice for skate vids back in the day

  • my dads in this

  • Does anyone know where they places are??

  • @indyfan22k - that school looks like Kenter Ave...it's been a long time, can't be sure!

  • 5:20 haha this part reminds me of the pool part of lords of dogtown

  • could someone tell me the name of the first song in this vid?....please? thanks....

  • This is one of the best videos I have ever seen!

  • @Arsinek You have to remember this was filmed in 1974, the urathane wheel was still new. There were skaters doing "tricks" at the time such as Ty page, but the tricks were done only on flat ground and banks. It was the generation of your so called "goofy" skaters that invented such "tricks" as the ollie (Alan Galfand). If you watch clips of what went down by 1978, I think you will be able to connect the dots.

  • Get real, these people are nothing compared to modern skateboarders, lol. Riding down a hill is supposed to be impressive? And as far as style goes they look goofy as hell acting like riding down a hill is something to be proud of.

  • @Arsinek1 You're a fucking tool! Skateboarding was invented as an alternative to surfing. It's just evolved to what it is today as people started trying new tricks. I mean dude, we're talking forty years of evolution, of course the guys these days are gonna be more skilled at tricks than the pioneers.

  • @guitarsehole Well you little shit stain, if you would have read through the comments on this video you would have seen people seem to think this skill-less skating is somehow superior to modern skateboarding which obviously it doesnt even come close.

  • @Arsinek1 Who the fuck are you calling little?? Your comment was ridiculous. The older guys are way better carvers which is the whole idea of the sport in the first place you fuckwit. The newer guys, who's skill I greatly admire, are better at flipping a board around and jumping shit or whatever. Two different styles of the same sport. Saying they look goofy is stupid...yes, riding down a hill is impressive, have you done it at great speed? Especially on those tiny boards with tiny wheels.

  • @guitarsehole Im calling you little, piss ant. No one cares about how or why the sport started. Yes they look goofy. They look fucking retarded. A fucking grandma could do what theyre doing.

  • @Arsinek1 Hey fuck face, pull your fuckin head in ya smart mouthed cunt!

  • @guitarsehole Watch your language...or step outside..?

  • @Arsinek1 Do you have shit for brains? You sound stupid! Most people find these 70s skateboarding films more interesting and enjoyable than the modern stuff. Kids today are not as dynamic and innovative as they once were. Back then people were tougher, looked healthier and had thicker hair. Today their either overweight or weak and frail with stringy hair wearing too many tattoos and piercings with baggy clown pants. Now that looks "goofy".

  • thy does skateboarding suck now?

  • great stuff !!

  • i wanna old school skateboard ..

  • Wow! I can't believe that this is on Youtube! I saw it in the theater in the 1st run, changed my life! Skating then was an art, beautiful! The goal was, yeah, to simulate surfing, so it was cali surf style, blond hair, cut offs and tennies, long runs and smooth moves. Today's hip hop is just ugly and the "tricks" scraping,,, yeeecchhh!

    THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS GEM!!!

  • ALVAAAAA

  • TA!

  • FUck the helmet, he never once fell on his head! Awesome vid, thanks for posting, up there with downhill motion.

  • Good no, great stuff. Thanx 4 posting.

  • where are these epic skate spots

  • So fun!

The guy with a helmet is crazy!

  • no helmet

    no pads

    no brains........

  • yewwwwwwwwwwwwww

    lovin it

    "bring it back"

  • @ trotp3 that was Alva and Muir with him. Personally I think Biniak was the better skater at the time, but then again I'm speaking about Dogtown. The South Bay skaters of Los Angles were way ahead of other skaters in terms of pool and pipe skating. I'm not taking about the freestyle skaters but the surf style skaters such as Kevin Anderson, Bob Moore, Howard Igalo, and the others at E.T. Surf. Kevin was aready hitting coping doing frontside slashers when this footage was being filmed!

  • @dogbowl77 long live "the worm!" ...but what about the "Quever"?

  • @dogbowl77

    Kevin the Worm! Boinkers!

  • Back then it was more about flow, style and soul, nothing technical about it.

  • It does look like alot more fun they were'nt all stressin' about sticking the gnarliest flippy flip they just wanted to ride and hang out with their friends...its so awesome watching this concrete surf style...respect the ride...Larry Bertleman on concrete lol...

  • Dog skitching?

  • OLD SKOOL SKATING RULZ!!!

  • sweet fro

  • The "Go For It" LP has become one of the rarest and most coveted soundtrack LPs amongst funk collectors. You wouldn't really know it from this clip though. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy.

  • i really dig the style of clothes they have on. just basic 70's look but on a skateboard it adds character. i think.

  • Innocent and pure

  • skating looked like it was way funner back then

  • @Aaroniguess , it was for me. Now at 47, it's harder and it's more painful when I fall!

  • @Aaroniguess the idea of skating came from kids wanting to surf in the fall and winter when it was to cold. so they just enjoyed coasting, and plus there wasnt as many tricks invented yet, it was all about skating.

  • @Aaroniguess Skating was fun then and it's still fun today!

  • R.I.P. Bob Biniak! I wish I could talk to him about the keyhole pool footage!

  • @dogbowl77 amen brother, was that Alva and Red Dog with him??

  • Don't forget Mr Incredible himself - Ti Page and king of the slalom - Henry Hester!

  • does anybody know where that spot is at :30?

  • @jkc3ny ive seen it in videos i think its in atlanta ga and the stares there are still the same today

  • urathane all the way

  • Tony Alva, Bobby Piercy and Stacey Peralta. They were the KINGS!!!!

  • I have an old parkrider board, like the kids in the Bad News Bears movie rode. I couldnt IMAGINE ridin that thing in a pool! Those guys were soooo gnarly!

  • These kids were NO JOKE! By far the coolest kids ever...70's kids!

  • i lovee how the vidoe has an old feel i wana make a video that looks like this

  • @ MrDacottage;

haha, it has that "old feel" because it IS old XD

  • They used to skate pools with soft wheels?

  • duh. y would you use hard wheels in a pool. soft wheels grip. u need ALOT if grip in a pool. hard wheels slide easy.

  • heh, i skated an empty pool with small hard wheels. the shittiest set up and still ripped it! too soft isnt good in my opinion.... then you cant powerslide.

  • Brings back many memories! I made my board from gear bought from our local stakeboard shop in 1975 Powerflex deck, 2.5 inch Tracker Trucks, 60mm Green Kriptonic wheels! Bloody mega!

  • My god, is that an ollie at 9:35? Could be the earliest one on film.

  • @timglasgow

No, that's called a "gorilla grip." Wrap your (barefoot) toes around the ends of the deck and jump up. Similar effect as an ollie (get air, no hands) but a very different method. '70s skaters like Ed Nadalin used to do them over high jump bars, off little jump ramps and off of tables, sometimes even doing a 360 in midair.

  • Not really. I remember seeing pics of guys doing that by gripping the board with their toes. Skater in shot has no shoes on!

  • 08:32 .... haha, sweet move

  • Best skate video ever, anyone know the song at 7:40 ?

  • What abaut Resist Control?

  • This is instant fav, Escpecially love the footage of the legendary Z-boys doing there thing. Awesome even to this day I skate like this........kinda

  • i wish it was like this right now

  • these were the days! old school skating is way funner than new technical stuff

espicially when you surf as well!

  • even being 16, i love to skate old school, i dnt care too much about technical tricks, old school is funner

  • you dont really see anybody do this shit in street skating anymore... all you see is kids grinding shit and jumping off ledges...doing like flip tricks and stuff.. not that fun.

well at least theres a revival of the old school skating style

  • FANTASTIC! THANKS...

  • i'm lucky not living in the 70's!

  • What on earth do you mean by that , the 70's were fantastic.

  • @cwegers1 so were the 90s, when cartoons ruled the AIR!!!

  • how big were the boards back then? and what kind of trucks did they use?

  • the boards were really small and they took roller skate trucks and wheels off and nailed them to a piece of wood

  • anywhere from 24-30 inches, trucks could have beeen from quad roller skates or manufacturd trucks that were notable are trackers. most trucks were 2 1/2 to 3 inches wide kingpin

  • what's the name of that type of skateboards ?

  • Comment removed

  • Cadillac wheels with ball bearings. Some of the oldest stuff could even be Super Surfer brand. Based on location they probably rode Zephyr boards.

  • skateboards hahaha. skurfers lol.

  • haha skurfers. ok thanx for the info. i will by a skurfer now haha lol

  • 80's deck i guess

  • Where's that place at :30? I have home movies of my uncle skating there

  • Paul Hoffman at 4:54 doing nose 360's!

  • I thought that's who that was! Ha ha he judged our Manhattan Beach skateboard contest once and I thought he was a big star. I also think I won that contest. God that was more than half my life ago, FERRRRRREAKY!!! Thank you for bringing back these memories, even though I never knew about any of these places back then. Damn.

  • i love the color of the 70's-

    the hue-

  • From memory the 70's were the same color as now ...... there was probably a bit more purple around.

  • ah 70's skateboarding no tricks nothing fancy just 1 thing GO FAST W00T

  • Silly Rabbit... tricks are for kids!

  • love the quote lol >:)

  • Nuh-uh!! Lots of tricks! Handstands, 360s, kickflips, nose wheelies... freestyle tricks they don't do anymore. But I admit it, if Tony Hawk or anyone from today arrived in a time machine in the late 70s they would have crushed Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta and all the others in the dirt.

  • @bunnasoo2 tony hawk is overrated he's only famous because he was the first to 900, and it was just a matter of time before somebody did it.

  • what are they're boards called

  • skateboards.

  • go to landyachtz site and look up the dingy thats pretty much what they're ridding

  • cool

  • WOOW at 2:56 that dude was like an inch away from getting nailed on the head by that board.....

  • so cool

  • whats the song while their skating in the resivoir?

  • I'll take that over Star Trek anyday!

  • wow...old school boarding!! lol

  • may that dog R.I.P.

  • It seems 70s skateboarding is more like longboarding today.

  • The Z-boys was the shit!

  • I love old school the modern day skateboarding is soo gay

  • i know....old school is the best...but it's old, which means not new, which means it was made up THEN not NOW so of coarse the first will be the best!!! expesially in this case!

  • You're a horrible speller, man!

  • so...wats ur point??????

  • There is no point. I just never heard someone spell "especially" like that.

  • okay....so...i blanked!! happens to everyone!!! :p oh, and u didn't hear me..u read it!! OH!

  • There are a few sick clips of Jay and Tracy in this.

  • I think you mean Stacy...

  • No, he means Lacey.

  • i found an old fiberglass yellow board in my garage, still in mint condition from when my dad rode it.

    YESSSS

  • If its in mint condition then your dad did not really ride it.

  • "from when my dad rode it" means no one rode it after he did until this year. Sorry, i wasnt too clear =/

  • i think this skateboarding is so beautiful compared to skateboarding nowdays

  • You would have had to be bionic in the '70s to do some of those moves today.

  • at 5:03 Peggy Oki rips!

  • The pioneers of skating man :D

  • fukn music

  • this video is sick if everybody just go together and skated together like that life would be so much simpler

  • wow guys n gals its amazing.... I still skate like that .... cheers for the tip on "looking dumb"... always helps when sum joker comes along!!!

    =)

  • damn i once saw this early skatemovie with a clay stop motion intro but i forgot the name..

  • are there the Z-BOYS?

  • Yes it they are

  • I wish we skated like that now...

They could leave the "70'sness" out of it though

  • this looks fun...but if u skate like that NOW your gunna look dumb =[

  • Haha, I skate like that XD

  • We Keep Surf Skate Alive man

  • I find it the most fun way to skate.

  • No pads, no helmets, no helicopter parents, and you skate at your own risk. Sadly, those days are gone.

  • Great video!

What's the leading melody in the very begining and in the mis of the video?

Guitar riffs are very close to early Black Sabbath ... ???

  • Now that's old school. Love the afro, love the music, love the memories. Thanks.

  • is that a mexican kid i see?

  • Remember the most cool character is Stacty Peralta.

  • Jay Adams and the Solo Kenter?

  • This deserves SIX stars!
