What I'm saying is there is no curve to this comparison at all. Whats the mathematical formula? Torque is defined as the force at any one point on the edge of a circle in the exact direction of the rotation multiplied by the radius.Isn't horsepower figured on distance and time in a straight line?
Off the top of my head, I can't tell you the exact formula for calculating horsepower from torque and RPM readings at the engine's crankshaft. Distance against time is velocity. You are correct in that torque is rotational force: 1 lb force, 1 ft from center of rotation equals 1 ft/lb torque. Where I work, we manufacture Dynamometers, which are tools for measuring engine output. We measure torque from the engine's crank against RPM and the computer tells us horsepower.
@alexd92007 Well if u think of it.. An 1 liter motorcycle engine has close to 200 hp nowadays. But a 10 liter truck engine has nowhere close to 2000 hp, its more like 250. The thing is that it cant rev so high, but in return it has colossal torque.
1 HP is merely 33,000 lbs/ft of torque per minute. Therefore, the higher the revs for a given torque, the greater the HP figure. Why does a Honda Civic S have 200 HP? Because it's measured at 6500 rpm, which is meaningless. Clamp the tires, and you couldn't break it free. Conversely, large slow-turning engines can move mountains, but don't brag about HP.
He is barring over the engine to expel any moisture which may condensed in the cylinders while stnading. Large diesels collect a lot water when shut down. The cocks on top of the engine allow the water out. You can see the engineer close each one at start position.
@wstcw Rotating fly wheel to a start position. Because it is started by compressed air the cylinders must be in very specific place for it to work (most likely answer).
Nice German engineering!!!!!

Dug through some old notes... Found the formula for rotational Horsepower from Torque and RPM
Horsepower = (Torque (measured in ft/lbs) X RPM ) divided by 5252 (conversion factor)

Horsepower and torque are two different ratings there is no correlation between them. Don't try to mesh them together.

@Matt2chee
Horsepower IS directly correlated to torque. Torque at a given RPM is used to calculate horsepower. That is science, not an opinion.

the power seems somoehow too small for that capacity 108 litres and 576 hp

@70Bozu Sure you could, dump the clutch at 6500 rpm....

would be cool to narate the video to let us people that do not know what is going on, a little clue on the starting procedure.

What is the man on the left side doing? What is jacking/pumping?
wstcw 3 months ago
@wstcw just a guess, pumping the oil into the passages so the engine doesnt start dry.
