  • That was unbelievable!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

  • @steelguitar3

    Awesome, I love it! Thanks!

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks bro', I can almost play along with you now on the basic tune (not the fancy bits) what are your string gauges?, just got a basic cheap but ok Harley Benton to learn on and through the fender mustang3 sounds fine but would like new strings, tuned to C6 as you are. One day I hope to go to a pedal (when I quite the night job ) as I love them to bits. One step at a time though LoL.

  • My string gauges for C6 tuning (high to low) 014, 017, 020 plain, 024 wound, 030, 036

  • @steelguitar3 Thanks again, sets for sale on ebay seem to vary a bit on the lower end, one has a plain 4th and 032 6th, loved your now or never vid'. The century seems to have a nice width to the body viewed on the video, and sounds great. Very inspiring work thanks for the help.

  • WoW ! not sure if I am inspired or gutted by this, my C6 efforts suddenly sound more Trash-ville than Nashville and I was doing so well (I thought), Superb playing and bar technique m may just have a lap steel burning LoL.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Keep picking... eventually you'll develop your own sound and I'm sure it will be a good sound! Cheers

  • ant.com,use firefox,get the downloader,in the tool menu,search youtube,it will explain it,you can download anything,I got this one,my fav of all I got,best version,and its with a STEEL! Man I Like it!!!

  • @willyman757 Thanks!

  • how much does one of these cost? What about the 8 stringed ones?

    P.S. you rule!

  • Thanks, a vintage Gibson lap steel like this would probably cost about $700. 8-string models might be a bit more.

  • @steelguitar3 Are there any cheaper, more current models out there?

...700$ is a little out of my reach... thanks!

  • Yes, you had asked "how much does one of these cost"... I thought you meant how much does an old Gibson lap steel cost. You can buy a new entry level 6-string lap steel for $149.00. I recommend the Rogue Jersey Lightning. Check with musiciansfriend. A better quality lap steel will cost you about $450. An 8-string is more. Don't buy a Morrell. They are absolute junk. Thanks

  • Wow, how cool is that? One of my fav songs. You sound great, nice & clean. Glad I found your channel. Lovin' it! Keep 'em comin'!

  • What a perfect song for the steel guitar and your playing is so good! I just wanted to comment and tell you that this video rekindled my interest in the lap steel. I have started playing with the C6 tuning and my eyes have been opened to a whole new world. Thanks for sharing. Btw, are all those lap steels you play yours?!?

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Yes, I have about a dozen steel guitars. C6 is my favorite non-pedal tuning. You may want to check out my C6 lap steel song book, 25 songs: playsteelguitar . com

  • Fantastic! Great sound!!

  • Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

  • No, I don't have an mp3 of the song, but you could probably rip the audio off youtube somehow. Audacity (free program) would work.

  • Awesome!! I have always found the Steel guitar fascinating. Love that song. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks!

  • @steelguitar3 Do you have a MP3 of that song? Would love to put that on my mp3 player.

  • Dude, I'm so stoked to play now! Just bought a lap steel before Christmas and have been dinking around with it a bit. I work from home, so it'd be no big deal to go set it up and play, but I know I have work to do. Ha ha. Thanks for posting this awesome video!

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Enjoy your new lap steel! You might want to check out my C6 lap steel song book/CD at playsteelguitar . com

  • You are amazing with that Lap Steel. I really enjoyed this tune, one of my favorites. Great sound as well. Cheers..

    Wayne..

  • Thanks!

  • I got to agree with tessfitch,I cant get enough of this either, plus I'm trying to learn to play the lap steel guitar...thanks for sharing your talents with us...I'd be happy just to play half as good as you do....very nicely done,,,,choice...

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate your kind words. Enjoy your lap steel guitar.

  • thanks boss, been playing lap steel about 4 years all blues, but thay all tell me c6 is the boss tuning.Ive got an old vox jmi im going to keep that in c6.THANKS

  • Thanks! I think you'll like C6 tuning. Most blues players play E tuning, but C6 works for blues too, and a lot of other styles. It has full (3 note) major and minor chords. For lots of good info check steelguitarforum . com, the "steel without pedals" section. Cheers!

  • I have love the hawaiian guitar for many, many years, even played one in my yonger days. Great to watch you play with such skill! I used the same C6 tuning mainly as you used here. I was taken also with the unusual style of your fretboared.

God bless you and thanks for that!

    YBR35

  • Thank you, I'm glad you like it!

  • My very favorite, you amaze me! Thank you!! I have listened to this dozens of times, just cannot get enough of you!

  • great job, dude!

  • Thanks!

  • Man I love the old stuff this is the type of music that inspires me and leaves a fire in my belly great job :)

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

  • That was a wonderful rendition of anold classic. It was even interesting to watch the player's fingers. I listened to most of the lap guitars here and this is te

    best performance.

    deralteist

  • Thanks!

  • OMG!!! I have never heard such a beautiful sound,I have heard this song play by many. But never like that.i was just checking out how to play the cigar box guitar and stumbled on this. Now I wont to learn them both

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

  • This rocks!! Im buying a lap steel now, youve just influenced me..Thanks..Keep up the good work

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it!

  • @steelguitar3 I was serious about the influence..lol..I picked up a 1949 national lap steel in the original case this weekend at a local pawn shop...Im working on getting the hang of it at the moment..I play banjo also and I feel like you use a good bit of rolls when playing steel?? Any ideas for what I need to learn starting off? Its hard to find alot of info on lap steel...Do you have any sort of tabs for this? I would love to learn this..Sounds great..Thanks

  • First you need to choose a tuning. I like C6... (high to low) E, C, A, G, A, C. That's the tuning I use for Ghost Riders and most of my other videos. Steel is a little like banjo, but more sustained notes, not as much constant picking. 2 metal fingerpicks and a plastic thumb pick. Check in with the Steel Guitar Forum... steelguitarforum . com I have a song book w/CD, 25 songs for C6 lap steel, you might want to check out: playsteelguitar . com Ghost Riders will be in my Next song book Thx

  • CORRECTION: C6 tuning (high to low) E, C, A, G, E, C.

  • @steelguitar3 I will buy your next book..Any idea when it will come out? Thanks

  • probably about 2 months. check steelguitarforum . com for news, thanks

  • fuckyeah

  • Just Beautiful

  • Thanks!

  • Great job i just picked up a 1982 Dekley 12 string pedal steel maybe i will learn how to play it.

  • Thanks! Enjoy your Dekley

  • super...thanks...just when i thought i was doing alright, now i realize it's a long way to go

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Keep pickin'... and have fun with it!

  • Man - that was awesome.... I have lap steel - I'm still to come to grips with it.. I can only hope I can master it as good as you have... Cheers

  • Thanks!

  • I was just given a lap steel. It makes some cool sounds but seems limited to Hawaiian and twangy country or dirty blues. Feels like a guitar will beat it any day. Course I'd like to be proved wrong. Just seems like its limited to only a small part of a small genre.

  • I guess every instrument has it's strong points, and weaknesses.

  • 1.15 0.0 AMAZING!!!!

  • Thanks! I'm glad you like it!

  • thanks!

  • great tune

  • now obviously id love to have one of these but unfortunately there out of my price range. any tips on how i can get the same effect with my electric steal string guitar??? its a 1960's epiphone.

  • I only paid $300 for this one. You can buy a new entry-level lap steel for under $200. As far as getting the slide effect on standard electric guitar, I would suggest tuning to an open chord and using a hollow slide. If you really like the slide sound you'd be better off to buy a cheap entry-level lap steel and see what kind of sounds you can get out of it. Enjoy.

  • @steelguitar3 thankies :3 and yea i would love to but i have about 12 guitars and a banjo and mandoly and violin. and countless others .o. so ive put a limit on what i get XD. i have too many but yea ill try and see how it is when i get to a music store.

  • Wow you sure can play that lap steel! I am just getting ready to sit down and tune my lapsteel to c6, then I have to learn to play it lol.

  • thanks, enjoy your lap steel!

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like my videos. I like your playing too. You have a lot of talent for the steel guitar!

  • This goes to the top of my favorite lap steel list. No kidding, it's perfect, so clean.

Is the C6 tuning low to high EGACEG ?

    Thanks, Zig

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it. The version of C6 I use is: (low to high) C, E, G, A , C, E

  • cool

  • Now this tune is stuck in my head again and I feel like Playing Fallout New Vegas again.

  • How Cool is That! Inspirational Playing Thank You.

  • thanks, it's a cool tune, a lot of fun to play

  • Great job playing .....

  • Thanks Carl, I'm glad you like it!

  • simplesmente Perfeito parabens

  • Thank You!

  • That was great . Where did you get your backing track ? I can't find any to play against.

  • Thanks, I'm glad you like it. The backing is band-in-a-box. And I added some rhythm gutiar to the BIAB track. thanks

  • Doug : This is great; love your version on the number. First I have seen a wide necked guitar like this Gibson; nice sound indeed. Keep em comin'..Bernie

  • Thanks Bernie, Gibson made a couple of wide neck lap steel models in the 1950s. It's kind of a deco design. It took some geting used to, but I like it now. The wide fretboard makes it easier to see where the frets are when the bar hand is over the frets. Thanks again! Cheers

  • can not stop watching it i have your 2 books please put this in the next one

    and that great backing

  • Will do! thank you!

  • can not stop watching it i have your 2 books please put this in the next one

  • Thanks Barry!

  • Nice job with an old favorite.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it!

  • Great playing and arrangement of one of my favorite country tunes. Do you plan on including this arrangement in one of your CD/ Song books? If so i would be interested. Thanks for posting It.

  • Thanks, I may put this in a future book/CD... the melody and a somewhat easier solo. Thanks for asking.

  • @frg8888 thats dam good playing my man thanks

  • Glad you like it, thanks!

  • This was so awesome! What about the backing music? Did you do it yourself? I would love to have some backing music to practice my steel with....

  • Thanks, yes, I made the backing track using the Band-in-a-Box program. I made a wav file of the track, and imported the wav to my recording program (Audacity). Then I added some rhythm guitar (Telecaster). I'm glad you like it!

  • Awsome playing!!!

  • thanks guys, I'm glad you like it!

  • Very Cool!!
