Liam Neeson is ideal to replace Richard Burton and i hope very much that Jeff brings Rhydian Roberts back in again this year.Rhydian has great stage presence and a strong brilliant voice.

So, it's the same music and story, it's just with Liam instead of Richard and the music has been changed slightly. It looks/sounds good too.

@spotoftrouble - From what I gather, yes, but with extra content to expand the story. The music is still relatively to be the same, but performed with today's instruments and with today's feel, those gritty sounding keyboards and synths with elements of dance. This will replace the heavy late 70s "disco" feel the original 1978 album had. It will be different, but refreshing. A case of either liking it or not, but at least we still have the original classic Burton one to go back to.

I am a huge fan of this piece of music and I saw it live in 2010. Amazing!

It is time for change though, not just fixit’s here and there.

It is a brilliant and necessary move to take the step into “The Next Generation” .

The only way to continue.

Jeff Wayne has made a masterpiece with the original but I have faith that the new version will be just as extraordinary.

Richard Burton's Narration is an integral part of the album, Burton gave the script an very abreviated version of the war of the worlds some depth, unfortunately Liam Neeson good actor he is cannot read it..................stick with Burton !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@Sutherland46233 Jeff Wayne is just trying to bring out more "story" (can't blame him) and Liam is overall good. Still Richard Burton is the classic Journalist we have come to know and love in this Album.

I loved Richard Burton's original recording, but I have to say, Liam is a great choice to play the Journalist :) Just watching this proves it, he puts a lot of depth into the character, I for one really like it.

I do hope though that Jeff doesnt change the orginal album too much :) the music was incredible but if he changes too many elements it might just ruin it, it can one of tow ways but so far sounds great, Going to definatly see this live! Can't wait :)

There is also a practical reason to this. Burton is no longer with us. The recordings that exist exist on old tapes. Those tapes, those which survived, were digitised. But they cannot add to them. Where as a new narrator can. Jeff can only use what they have, so to expand, they have to take a bold step. It appears they have. I would say Jeff has done a very wise thing in getting someone as diverse and with so much pedigree as Liam Neeson. Liam is NOT Burton, but what they both share is acting.

@Jonno71 - The other thing that comes into play is the Burton recordings. The Burton estate also have a say in those recordings. To add to the 'War', they need more narration and as Burton cannot give, Liam on a new level can. But I can see the dislike with fans. All the fans will have to get use to hearing Liam taking on this role.

@Jonno71 - I'm pretty sure he will succeed. Afterall, none of us here have heard the entire "new" version yet. But what we have to remember is the album is titled "Jeff Wayne's Musical Version". Jeff can add and take away who ever he wants. It is his work. My hat is off to him for that move.

Has much has I love Liam Neeson, Richard Burton will always be the Journalist. And in my honest opinion, Anthony Hopkins should have done the "The New Generation" version, sorry Liam.
