I guess you two are right. The United States has never been a welfare nation and probably never will be. A different type of mentality is needed to have a healthcare system the way it could and can be found many European countries. Otherwise, people might be even worse off (if that's even possible) than with the current system.

@danwk7 It all depends on the point of view. One could also argue that the endless amounts of benefits that people in the military and their relatives get these days are "giveaways". For example, it's so much easier to get financial assistance for going to university with a military background, than due to scholastic or professional achievements. In my opinion, if you are in favor of getting rid of welfare, you should include all kinds of welfare.

@1029blue A big reason its easier for vets to get financial aid is because much of their bill is going to be paid by the government in the first place. Alot of people join the military to get a cheaper college tuition. Less money owed = more likely to get the loan.

The feds caused this current crises of delaying, diminishing and denying care and when the public option occurs, it will be even worse; it will be official rationed care and death panels.Don't be naive. OMG we watch our Government lie to us about WMD, war, and Global Warming. We watch our Government screw up our education our Economy and our currency.  We watch them give Corporations breaks and money. We watch our Government allow US corporations to crap on our workers. This is a real problem. The NHS in the UK is an abysmal, degraded and neglectful service. Very much a two-tier system, increasingly corrupt & operated for the benefit of the large drug corporations.

The bigger problem is that we have become so used to corruption that we accept it as the norm. People who speak out from within the NHS are stuck off, losing their means to earn a living, despite legislation that is supposed to protect whistle-blowers.

I know nothing about the UK, I can only see the horrible Treason we tolerate with the Government here in the U.S. I do not understand how people believe Crooks, Lying Thieves, who comment Treason daily can ever write Good Holy Law... It just does not make since to me why we would want these people governing every part of our lives.

Luckily for our children and grand children the oil will be running out pretty soon, we'll lose about 100% of modern technology, and be driven back into the dark ages. Governments will have no way to control people if they have no oil to anything.

Every single thing you see in our county is made from oil in one way or another. Before the government gets to fuck us anymore, we'll be migrating into Mexico to get away from the cold winters.

So fuck it. Public option or not, we're fucked.
