Look at the wars that have gone back and forth across the rest of the world. How many victims can each country in Europe whine about if they wanted to? American civilians have no idea what war on their land and in their cities is like. They have no idea what it is to see your baby blown to bits in his cradle. They do not know what it is like to try to dig some roots out of frozen ground that has been pounded into cement by armies.

No, a few political leaders use our amazing military as a tool to achieve their own personal goals. It isn't "Americans" it's leaders in general. Can you imagine if Saddam had the military capabilities we have? It's not an American thing, it's a people thing. I'm really REALLY fuckin sick of all the American hate by supposed "open minded" and "more progessive" foreigners yet they so quickly generalize all American's as being exactly like a few bad leaders.

You know what we do in Parliamentary governments? We recall the government if they do stupid shit in our name. We do not have a system in which someone can steal an election. Nor would we go on to elect that person in the next election. We have checks and balances and if the government goes too far we bring it down through a vote of non-confidence by the opposition parties. Having more than one opposition party they can form a coalition and force change or down she goes in an orderly fashion.

No. Just a tongue in check toss off. I read and view media from Canada, US, UK and some others. I was educated in American and Canadian History and continue to study it. We get American cable TV in Canada so it is as simple as turning on the TV to see what is being spread. When I taught high school I used Time and Macleans to show how different value systems interpret the same events. This balance is what you appear to lack in many places according to your media. PBS is good.

well, most Americans know our journalism is fucked. I was a journalism major at MU for a year until I took a class in which a former CNN photo journalist told us that they told him not to take any pictures of people building shit, just pictures of death and destruction. Our newspapers are very liberal and our radio is very conservative, TV is kinda mixed.

I think the biggest confusion non Americans have is that they think we're proud of our wars and that we're proud to be in wars. This isn't the case. I'm not proud of Vietnam, I'm not proud of Desert Storm, I'm not proud of the Iraq War, but I am proud of our soldiers who selflessly put their lives on the line.

It is not the individual Americans, setting aside the those that think disagreement is a threat. I worked in NYC for 5 years. I never met a conservative much less a war monger. If you have most of the world's skilled labour, why do you have to have so many legal foreign workers? I was one of them, in IT in NYC. Most people I knew were English, Chinese, Canadian and Eastern European. Why? Because too few Americans have good enough educations for the high level jobs. They have to keep raising the cap at the request of tech and consulting companies.

well, actually, it's a fact. I learned it in my economics class, so maybe you singular instance it might not have been true, but according to facts brought to me by my economics teacher (a guy with a PHD), we have the most skilled labor.
I also think you're confusing "skilled labor" with "high level jobs". Just because you have a specific skill you use doesn't mean you get paid a lot.

@Anglefan12 You are correct. I was thinking of skilled as "highly trained or educated." You may not make good money at this. The teacher's level of education proves nothing. I was taught to check everything against other experts and not desregard the possible bias of the teacher or myself. Subjectivity has no place in education. From my experience in NY and NJ, 2/3 of the people I knew were foreigners. We joked that if Bush got in and dumped immigration the economy would colllapse.
