What the very liberal Norman Lear did was this:
Archie would speak truths but to "nullify" the truths , Lear would have Bunker make some racial slur and in the simple minds that are the general public, that would make the truths non-truths
Its like the OJ trial.
The "logic" used was OJ cant be guilty because someone else did something wrong.

He wasn't so much racist as incredibly ignorant. He stereotyped everyone, including Jews, Irish, Italian, and of course, the Polish (owing to his son-in-law's heritage)

No, this clip was from the episode "Archie Sees a Mugging". That's Jack Somack on the right playing the shop owner Tony Vicino. Mr. Girgis (Jack Weston) was in the episode "Edith the Judge".
