Well, it just imitates the way that the rest of the body of a snake follows the path that the head was taking. This 'snake' is just rolling on wheels and remembering the location of the head movements to be followed by the rest of the body as it coves the same path that the head was defining. It will really be 'snake movement' when it contracts and expands sections of the body WITHOUT the use of any wheels or rollers. Check out how rattlesnakes slide parts of the body to move in the sand.

The constant sound is the motors that make it sliver. Wheels on the underside, i have no problem with, as snakes have the grooves on their bellies that hel push them forward aswell. The main part of robotic snakes is the side-to side motion, which they capture here in an amazingly smooth form. Awesome stuff, guys.
