  • The engines on these POS cars were not designed for regular people. The timing belt will go out at 40k miles and will force you to buy a new engine/rebuild. The number of mechanics who know how to properly rebuild these engines is very small.

    crankwalk is just a minor problem with these junk cars, losing a timing belt (sub $100 part) will cause you all sorts of problems.

  • Hmm..Youre half right. They werent designed for regular people. They were designed for people who want to go fast in a 4 cylinder powered car. The timing belts have 60k maintenance schedules. Dont replace it by then, youre asking for it, but Ive seen cars beat the hell out of with 126k on the stock belt. If you want to talk about junk cars, why dont you sit down and look at some Dodge trucks/cars.

  • @740turbobrick now everyone is aware that a dodge neon has a 2.0 dohc 420a motor. the same motor that comes in the non turbo eclipse/talon. every car company has its good makes, everyone still in business that is, and a few out, deloreans we pretty sweet. ok not really but you get the point

    Half right again. Its part Chrysler, part Mitsubishi. You just said it yourself. Chrysler gave it such parts as shitty interiors, cheap clear coat, and cheap metal work. Mitsubishi supplied the power train, which is why they are more successful than a Neon. Im a DSMer and Im willing to accept all this, Im sure all the others are too.

  • @firewallx Your right they are a pos. I got a old eclipse in storage that is on its 3rd engine, because of belt problems. I have a 97 saturn that we just use when it snows. Both cars have 190,000 miles. The saturn has the original engine and could bet the eclipse in a race from day one. Very sad, I one day said screw it and thats why I drive a 300C, no worries now. The eclipse can rust for all I care.

  • @Num1shark theirs 2 different engines in the 1g's the 1.8 and the 2.0 the 1.8 is a craptastic motor and as far as the 2.0 it currently powers the worlds fastest 4 cylinder at 6.8@201 the 2.0 is a beast of a motor you just gotta take car of your car and if you think regular maintenance is a hassle wait til that 300 c breaks theirs a reason everybody returned those 300's

  • @dankebuddha I have the 2.0 but the problem is the replacement engine at Japanese imports where I live gave me a Cheap'o Hyundai engine. Same engine just shitty made parts. I had to pull the engine out and rebuild it after a test run. Plus is a GS automatic so its just a slow pile of crap, lol. But i got it to save gas originally, not to race. I have a 240Z that I'm working on right now. I have owned my 300c for 2 years, no problems with my hemi at all. Daily driver.

  • @Num1shark ya those auto's are really craptastin the manny's get better millage and the 5.7 hemi is crap i have work on at least 7 that have come into the shop i work at running like chit completely tore them down and put it back together ran even worse sent all 7 to dodge and they couldn't fix it either the only good thing dodge sells is the diesel Cummings but the chevy is the best diesel on the market now

  • @dankebuddha I do agree with you that Chevy makes the best diesel's. I have never had a problem with the 5.7. I didnt go with the SRT because there is a gas guzzler tax on it, and the 5.7 makes more trq when trubo or super charged. The only trouble you have to look for is to keep track of your oil and temps. So many people forget to warm the block up before driving or they let the temps get to high. Most of the hemi's with problems are in the dodge rams.

  • @Num1shark the saturn beat the eclipse??? is your eclipse non turbo? if it is then theres your problem, the n/a eclipse is a PILE of shit. if that eclipse is turbo and got beaten by the saturn than i honestly dont know what to say, im amazed.

  • @ineedmorebass The eclipse is a n/a 4g63. We didn't go for the turbo because I'd much rather spend my money on my other cars. The Saturn has upgraded cams to shift at higher rpm's. It made a fun little daily driver. I've had problems with the censors because the excess heat. I have 2 project Nissan's that I'm working on now. So the eclipse will probably never be converted over to a turbo or awd.

  • @740turbobrick Yes I would. I drive a 1970 Datsun PL521 pickup with a cammed-out L20B. My pickup smokes any factory Volvo. I like Volvos for their durability and reliability, but unless you rewire the whole vehicle, it WILL develop bad electrical issues.

  • i had a 94 gst before it and it ran fine as well with 135000 miles. the simple fact is, the 7 bolt motor is fine unless you want to race your car. once you start running bigger turbos, and different iternals and your running like 400+ horsepower thats when the engine become prone to damage as far as the crank, pistons, valves, rods etc are involved. that is when i would prefer a 6 bolt. as far as everyday and even some spirited driving goes, a 7 bolt is fine

  • That depends on alot of things, mostly Previous owner history. If it was taken care of, they are reliable. If you get some chode that thinks he knows what hes doing, and fucks it all up, then theres a good chance it will break down often. Also, the more you build it, the more things you could possibly break.

  • crankwalk can happen to any motor. the 7 bolt is a reliable engine as long as it is maintained and built correctly. they break for 2 reasons; 1. they have the shit drove out of them by some dumb kid or 2. they are not built properly. i have 300 hp in my 99 eclipse gst and it has 150000 miles and its daily driven and it runs PERFECT. simply because i maintain it and don't abuse it. that doesnt mean i wont get into it every now and then though.

  • 90 also good and only run 7bolt if it's an automatic. No stress on thrust at all. 7 bolt blocks and main girdles are stronger.  They just used lighter crank and rods that can't handle as much boost. good to about 350 hp and after that, boom.

  • No, its a 92. It doesnt have pop up headlights. And by light bar do you mean the wing? His car had alot of stuff normal lasers didnt. It did not have one badge on it saying what it was either. Could only tell by the title.

If you do a research on the first gen Laser,Eclipses, Talons. They changed the body style a bit from 92-94. A typical 92 laser has a different rear from yours. Google one, youll see what I mean.

  • I know all about DSMs, I have many pictures of them, I am aware of 1ga, 1gb, 2ga and 2gb stylings. This is a 92 laser RS Turbo AWD. I have 3 pictures of lasers right here that look exactly like this one, and a pic of a 1ga laser that looks different in the rear. The only thing changed on this car was the Talon-style 3 piece wing, a mitsu front bumper and it was debadged.
