I think that the reason that their iTunes CD contains so many bonus tracks for such a small price, and the reason that they've got a Hot Topic edition of their new album, and the reason behind all the weird merchandise like a miniature version of the Abrahadabra mask is an attempt to compensate for Vortex's and Mustis's departure... and not lose any money.

Very untrue. Sure Vortex and Mustis were amazing members and contributors to the band but what about Dimmu before them with For All Tid, Stormblast, and Entrone Darkness Triumphant? 3 highly respected and well received Black Metal albums without the help of Vortex or Mustis. The heart of the band is Shagrath and Silenoz. I have extremely high expectations for the next album as Dimmu have never disappointed me.

About Arcturus, I actually haven't heard anything better... they are so good because their music is so complex. They are probably the most experimental band ever, too. Dimmu Borgir isn't that complicated... yes it has an orchestra but it is still pretty simple. I still like it though, it is just not even close to the complexity and genius of Arcturus. I didn't like Arcturus at first but I listened to them more and they are my favorite band now.. acquired taste I guess
