Surprisingly, I think like this version better... And I'm a much bigger fan of Gary than Clapton. That voice and that organ player blows my fucking mind. :D
Surely Eric's tribute to Gary should never have been about him giving us a demo of what an awesome guitar player he (Eric) is. Eric was paying tribute to the awesome talents of Gary. Who gives who is (was) best? They are all top drawer players and that should be enough ...
GOOD JOB ERIC ... WE KNOW THAT THEIRS ONLY ONE MAN THAT CAN PLAY THAT BEAUTIFUL SONG WITH A LES PAUL , AND THAT'S GARY ! BUT YOU MY FRIEND DID HE HIM A WONDERFUL RENDITION ... SO LET'S QUIT DOGGING ERIC , AND YOU TRY TO DO BETTER ! JOJO TAYLOR !
A Master plays a Master. Big respect from EC. We all know what Eric is saying Gary Moore was a fookin legend and Eric wouldn't play this if he didn't like this piece of work and he wouldn't have played it at the time he did if it wasn't to pay respect to a passing legend.
EC isn't limited to a Martin or a Strat! He could pick up a LP anytime he wants and in another concert he may play this song in anyone of many styles! he has the freedom and the skills to perform whatever his mood desires!
@TheBedroomDwiddler Yes I feel so uncomfortable when I watch this....Clapton was my main man in the sixties when I was a lad...
Gary Moore burst on the scene...Im not argueing whos best...and dis cover is nice....Gary Moore played with Claptons' buddies Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker and......... Eric??????????
@TheBedroomDwiddler I remember reading an interview with GM where he said he invited EC to play on the Still Got the Blues album and Eric declined. He was kinda upset with him for that. He then went on to wonder why EC 'couldn't pick up a Les Paul and just play' or some such remark (it was a sly dig). I sensed that there was a rivalry between them and they weren't the best of friends. Sad really cos I would have loved to see them both play together.
@TheBedroomDwiddler Yeah...I totally agree with ye...anyway the 6th feb..Gary died a year ago..lets celibrate his work!!! and lets enjoy Clapton as well!!!!
Can't believe it is a year. Still gutted. But hey good memories of his live performances. You Tube keeps it in the memory! Long Live the music of Gary Moore. Long Live You Tube!
@TheBedroomDwiddler Who cares. Whatever happened, if anything, it's most definately in the past. If EC ever did do anything to upset gary, this performance more than makes up for it.
@lozzerman > I think Eric would love to play a LP in public but I think he probably has a contract w/ fender. I saw a video with Eric playing with Joe Bonamassa and Joe was wailing on his LP and Eric was looking like he wished he was too as he strummed his strat in awe.
@MorroccoM13 "I think Eric would love to play a LP in public but I think he probably has a contract w/ fender."
He does play a Gibson LP (and many other Gibson guitars) in public. He did in 2011 when Gibson released a tribute to his BB LP. He's always played a mix of guitars.
There is no contract limiting him to play one particular guitar.
Respect for Eric the human being... One legend paying tribute to another great.. By the way I was present at the concert.. it was one of the best I have ever seen...
Merci de ce partage, si émouvant, c'est très beau, !!! cet hommage de Eric Clapton restera gravé dans nos mémoires, il n'y a pas longtemps que je réalisé qui était Gary Moore et je lui dis ici combien j'aime sa musique ♥
@AnnaAnnaYes Haha, But for blues, you have to trace all the way back to the olden days. Sonny Boy Williamson was also a great Blues Man. Although during his time, there was no blues guitar (I think so :) )
@AnnaAnnaYes Check out Ryan McGarvey. He's an Albuquerque local, but soon he'll be playing the Royal Albert hall. I saw him show up Joe two years ago in Santa Fe. He'll blow you away.
@gav25x That is a rather silly thing to say. The man's paying tribute and you disrespect him like that. Why would Eric NEED or WANT to copy Gary anyway? Eric started out as a bluesman and will always be one of the greatest. You never heard his covers album "From the Cradle"? His covers on that record make it one of his greatest albums ever, if not one of the best blues records ever.
@eqsmooth I'm aware of how good Clapton is, he's a great guitarist, he doesn't need to copy Gary, but he couldn't if he wanted to...Gary was in a league of his own. Just my opinion, no disrespect to Clapton.
@gav25x Well, Gary was good, but Clapton is God. And that's why Gary Moore wanted to do a record with EC. And as Gary said once, Clapton is best at soloing and playing rythm.. But there style was different.. And i don't understand why Clapton couldn't play Gary's Still got the blues note for note, when i can.. And I regards Clapton as a much better guitarist than me.. He is like world champion, and i play like in 5.division.. There is a reason why EC plays it this song on a Martin...
@Bigbluesboy, that's because payin homage to another musician is not "I can play your song as good or better than you". If you play a different version, there also will be no stupid kid fights on youtube like "A played this better" vs "B played this better".
@eqsmooth Agreed. When I heard From the Cradle, I immediately said, best stuff since Cream, by far, and a step above the Bluesbreakers stuff -- more refined, faster, and simply the best Clapton I have heard.
I hope Eric will do a single release on this... I'll buy it no matter the price... it's a priceless tribute to a legend musician from a legend musician
