Hahaha they aren't holding back on a massive stockpile of food! When people go on their site they get money from advertisers and they use that to buy and send food to people. They use the idea of raising so many grains of rice because it's easier for people to relate to and visualise.

Also, on FreeRice you can change your subjects. You don't only have to do vocabulary questions. They have this option where you can answer questions about art or math or geography or chemistry and each question still counts for 10 grains of rice.

Hey there Dave, just thought you'd be interested in knowing that facebook has also jumped on the whole free rice bandwagon so now there's an application for it! Although they only give 10 grains of rice per correct word, they donate 100 for every invite you send to your friends.
