The difference is the tape, not the dispenser. The brown tape isn't acid free & alot cheaper than the white rolls of tape. I have 2 of the ATG's & use both tapes for different projects. The white rolls roll off alot smoother.
I have had my ATG gun for about 2 years and I love it ,it is the red one brought from the framing company on line. I have never had any problem with it it glide very smoothly. I to am wondering why such price difference?
Just got mine @ Michael's. MSRP is $39.99 with 72 yrds of tape., orignal 72 yrds of tape is $10.00 I used a 50% off tape. Got a new ATG gun with tape for $20, and another 72 yrds for $5. not bad.
@ginacraftycrafter - Yes! My tape doesn't seem to want to stay on the fron rubber roller. This is my first ATG, so when I tried to push it back on, the paper backing ripped, and when I tried to restart it on the winder at the back, it got all doubled over and crumpled. I guess the problem is I didn't have enough patience with the mechanics, but the ATG's in a drawer, and I'm back to using liquid adhesives . . . ;o(
I absolutely love my new ATG gun! Once you get the hang of it the size of it doesn't intimidate you. Now I just have to find out where I can buy cheap refills! Anyone know?

Companies can lower the price point just to be more competitive in the market. They might have lowered it to increase sales volume. If they see the potential to make more profits on volume at the lower price point, they'll do it. They also could have found a lower price supplier for the materials to make the product or assemble the product and then passed the cost savings on to customers. Just curious, was it "made in China"?
You came out with this video just in time for me. THANKS!! I was going to buy an ATG gun and I bought mine online from Custom Crops as well for like 29.99 WITH 2 rolls of tape, so what an awesome deal!! Thank you Robyn for being such a thoughtful person to do your videos on subjects like this!
Thanks for the comparison Robyn. I should be getting mine this week or next. I have the ATG-50 (I think) from The Tape Depot and have loved it. But I couldn't pass this up. Glad to know there is not much of a difference.
Thanks Robyn after watching you paint your ATG I was wrapped when I realised Custom Crops was selling them and they ship internationally. I have a yellow ATG 700 but it is exactly the same as the new pink one. no weight difference and both work really well. I just want to put different size tape in each. But I love watching your videos.
Thanks for the comparison! I really want to get one and my BF decided he would get it for my birthday! YAY! I told him to wait for a 50% off coupon but he said the 40% off is fine. Love him!
Thanks for this Video!! I was wondering about the comparison and you've answered my questions!! Just one thing though, the pink ATG has refills (1/4") specific to this ATG...can we use ATG Gold transfer tape that is 1/2" for the pink ATG or is it only for for the ATG 714 gun? And in your opinion, what is the difference between a regular ATG tape and a Gold ATG tape. Thanks!!!
I am wondering if I am ever going to get mine from Custom Crops. I know they were delayed; but, it seems like a lot of people have received them already. Didn't know that Michaels was going to sell them. Thanks for the comparison!!!
@garity3 - i just got mine on August 10th - i had ordered mine from custom crops on june 16 - was 56 days!!! in the meantime i had ordered a tape gun from mysherricrafts and it has been great! not sure when i will get my pink atg put into action -but at least i have it now
Hi Robyn, Thanks for the comparison. I'm still deciding whether or not to even buy one of these. LOL I just got the Glue Glider Pro and am not very happy with it. I'm glad to see the price on these are lower now. I've been contemplating (procrastinating) about getting one for months! LOL Anyway, thanks again for a great video. Love all your stuff! Take care. Hugs, Pat :)
i just bought my first ATG at Michael's for $34.99 but of course i used my coupon so it only cost 20.00 anyway i'm happy!!! i've been using the glue glider pro but the refill tape cost 10.00 and the new scotch refill only cost $6 for 2 great saving guys!!!!
The difference is that they have made the parts with a lighter weight plastic. That is why your older gun feels heavier because it is made from heavier duty parts, and why the lady didn't give you a straight answer. The framing industry uses these guns day in day out. Scotch figures that scrapbookers don't need such a heavy duty gun as they don't think they put them through as much use.
I say they're wrong. But time will tell if I am right or not.
@robynstamps The difference is the tape, not the ATG guns. The white tape is acid free & the brown isn't & is harder to get off the roll. I have 2 of the ATG guns & use both tapes for different projects.
Thank you for the comparison. I am glad there really isn't any real difference between the new model and the one sold for framing. A friend of mine has purchased this for me as an early birthday gift. I am so excited.
I had the same questions and the owner of my LSS said the reason its cheaper is because it is made of a cheaper plastic. I am still getting the new pink one...i cant justify over $50 for the 714.
Where did you get yours because i looked it up and it was $56.55?

It's probably just like everything else. The company is saving money by making a cheaper product/changed manufacturer.
