Actually, it means you don't have enough air. If he actually does have twins, they are poorly designed and aren't flowing enough air. Black smoke is unburnt fuel. Plain and simple. To burn that fuel, you need enough air. You can dump a shitload of fuel to these engines because of the common rail design, but if you're not flowing enough air into the engine, all of that fuel is just a waste.

I shouldn't say they won't smoke at all, but when the turbo(s) are spooled, there should be relativly no smoke. I basically meant the turbo's are too small for the tuning he's running. Not really poor turbo design.

Twin turbos have nothing to do with have the fuel is burnt which means they have nothjing to do with the black smoke. Twin turbos just make better air flow which pumps a trucks HP up.

Actually, the amount of air going into your intake manifold has everything to do with how the fuel in being burnt. Think of it like this. If you run 90hp sticks and a stock turbo, you'll have a decent amount of smoke. Step up to a larger single, you'll reduce smoke and produce more power. It's a very simple concept. I don't know what's so hard about it to grasp.

not necessarily, but yes. the amount of fuel people use when in full boost is insane, you need much much more fuel to compensate for turbos depending on the psi and many other factors...
