  • I know how a violin works, and she isn't hitting a single note from which you hear, shes only pulling her stick quicker when the music goes quicker....

  • That's one mean Violin.

    Damn it's awesome!!

  • Actually, there is a playback, but she plays the violin too. Normally, she lower the violin's sound before start to play :}

  • yeah right... ''live'' ... i went to her concert, i know that's it's 100% not live lol

  • @BananerLaner ummm... how can it not be live? when i saw here she did these slidy thingies at the beginning. if it were just playback you wouldn't hear that. it's her playing with playback underneath.

  • Does she really play or is it just playback? - Sorry, but it sounds (for a live-version) amazing. o.O

  • @MrBrennstoff I can't really tell... But compared to the other songs on Laced-Unlaced album, this one is (relatively) easier to play than the others. At least from my point of view

  • @SeiPR727 It could be, that this one's easier to play, but I mean the sound's quality (that sounds so clear).

  • wish i had seen her in her real opheliac time not now, when she's at this burlesque-bohemian-idontknow trip

    ALTHOUGH she's fucking awesome!

  • @Sourcy14 I agree, sadly. Now her shows are more burlesque-ish, and kind, losing flavor. Maybe shell do something new this year, who knows. I saw her last year and it was still amazing. I dont know how things will seem in the future.

  • Emilie Autumn: She's not weird, she's just badass.

  • God I wish I had been there.

  • It doesn't sound real...

  • @TheSickHumanBeing yeah. its one of her big mistakes. i dont understand why she doesnt play unlaced live but face the wall. :<

  • I play violin and can tell that she's playing on this for sure. Does she have backing tracks? Of course she does. It wouldn't sound right if she didn't. If you listen to the original, the piece calls for two violins that harmonize on certain parts so if there is no second player then thats what she has to do. Is she playing the second violion part rather than the lead? Probably so because it's cleaner and easier to do live.

She's a beast of a player either way though.

  • Wow....she tore that violin up......

  • @SiouxsieAlbright And I bet it (much like us) thoroughly enjoyed it. ;P

  • This is the reason Im learning violin

  • You have no idea how much I'd love to see her live...

  • she is amazing and my inspiration to play violin

  • This was in my country! :DD

  • This is so freaking amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good grief, she's playing that violin as if it's nothing. What a talented musician. 0__0

  • Too bad she never plays Unlaced live =( When I went to her concert she didn't either and later on she played another song ( I think it was face the wall but I don't remember that well) and that was actually live so I could hear the difference. However, I am quite curious of the reason. Maybe because is too much background noise to play it live? I love her nonetheless though, and she doesn't playback everything like some artists do :/

  • playback

  • @deadlyflower13 & @umhewow

    It is Vecona

    :3

    the first captain ^^

  • ahhh I see thanks

  • It's amazing that somebody can do stuff like this in real time.

I'd always thought that the album version of this song was composed of layers of violin tracks. I didn't think it could all be done by one person.

  • oh dear, you should check out imogen heap. Totally different style of music, but it is all done by her alone, even live.

  • playback

  • @SliverofInfinity then you are pretty bad in music interpitation. since guitarist match these speeds with about 2 years practice. so a violinist who has been playing since before she was 10 or something could do this while balancing on a ball and talking to some1 at the same time...

  • @dodo4hire

Violin doesn't use a pick. That's a pretty huge difference. I play both, and trust me, quick stuff like that is much MUCH harder on the violin.

  • @mpbsmithaa last time i checked 1 stroke = 50 notes for EA.

and i have to pick like 30 times for 50 notes.... so present your comeback.

  • @dodo4hire Ain't it obvious... in a guitar like in a piano you just have to worry in the articulation of fingers, you don't have to worry about the quality of your sound or the tuning because the instrument has already solved that for you, NOT THE CASE OF VIOLIN, your tuning has to be super accurate because violin is not an instrument that uses equally temerped tuning ( which means C# is not the same than a Db) and to have a decent sound and decent tuning you have to practice very slow...

  • @feydust or people could just mark the required positions for the notes.

either way, not connected to speed, even tough you have to know those notes, and for some dumbass reason violins make the Db and the C# diffrent. those notes are achievable on guitar. you just need to work a little harder by bending the strings or using a trem bar. and since guitar has a more evolution in style, mastering the guitar therefore is harder since violin can be mastered with a classical aproach.

  • @dodo4hire Every instrument MUST be mastered with a classical aproach, since classical training is the one that gives you the proper technique to make your performance rich; yeah Picasso innovated the plastic expression through cubism but before that he already painted like Rembrandt; look at our mistress she plays metal stuff with her violin but before that she had to play Mozart and Bach and then Brahms and Tchaikovsky, we do with our little bear hand what you do with your trem bar...

  • @feydust i mastered guitar and singing by not doing the classical approach (even tough i now sing counter tenor/tenor/soprano in my school choire, depending on who is in the minority, and guitar mastered by ear/tabs of metal and rock music, never in my guitar carreer has classic come forth in my learning stages, even tough i play a little bit of neoclassical metal at times, but just for satire.)

  • @dodo4hire oooh yay choir! Your a guy right? Im guessing since you said your a tenor

  • @littlefart123 yup yup.

  • @littlefart123 ok. cuz my teacher in choir was mega stressing the fact that girls are never tenor because a bunch of women in the church choir claim to be tenors XD

  • @dodo4hire cleaning every single note, exaggerating the articulation so you internalize it and constantly checking your tuning because in violin a finger misplaced milimiter (specially in a slow note) screws everything for you, and when you finally accomplish to play a piece with a decent sound and tuning you still have to work a lot in giving a nice interpretation to the piece and of course archiving the proper speed... so there you have it.

  • @feydust because you need finer movement doesnt say anything about speed. it just says that you need more effort to get to that speed.

  • @SliverofInfinity well she has been playing for 27 years so that makes it more believable i think lol :)

  • @SliverofInfinity Isn't this playback? Also she really does play the violin pretty fast. Anyway...she rocks

  • @SliverofInfinity: It can't this is quite obviously an overdubbing. Which is a shame, because I know this woman can play some mean violin without studio assistance, and I don't understand why she would do this. Studio? Desperation? Album support? Who cares. Go listen to the album. Anyone who plays an instrument knows for a fact that it is quite impossible for this to be a true performance.

  • @CallingCrowe its not over dubbing.....Look up the sheet music its real....Studio desperation my ass...sorrry whatever floats your boat but yeah :)

  • @CallingCrowe its called double stopping, its where you play two strings at once on the violin, yes its perfectly do-able - you can play two different tunes by double stopping if youve got fast enough fingers... which, i think, is what EA does on a few of her amazing violin songs

  • @SliverofInfinity she's not live. lol

  • rooooh que c'est bon

  • I love Joo-Hee's dress!

  • is that lady Joo Hee?

  • yaya EA rocks

  • AHH!! So excited to see EA in November!!!!!

  • It certainly is. A handful of her bowstrokes are shorter than that in the album version, and the part before 3:00 is a tad off, as well as the fact that you can hear another violin part accompanying hers that's not in the album throughout parts of the song.

  • @SenorJuanDiablo

How do you ever want to play FAKE violin?

  • Holy crap this girl is good.

    Love her.

    /<3

  • Isnt that little Lucina at the keyboard O.o

  • O.o

    pedazo de tia !!

  • She has talent and beauty!

    I love her *.*

  • Who is the crumpet in the striped dress?

  • that could be vecona but the lighting is kinda crap so i cant get a good sight......

  • It's Vecona <3

  • Great quality exellent :P

  • That is nasty!!!

  • i love her violin! zebra-like!hahaha

  • omg, its so good like you almost need assurance that its not recorded~! awesome girl

  • OMG I JUS LOVE THIS CHICK!

    i love her music!

i love her style! its like classical meets undead! freakin sweet!

  • i can't believe that she didn't actually play this song...it was just the song going lalala and emilie was just faking it. I think that's the only song in which she does that but still...:( me likey that song so much

  • I noticed she douse this alot with this song. But I take it as how when you see a live show some singers won't put 100% into the vocals because they prolly have a show everynight for the next several weeks/months.

It might just kinda be a pain to try to do this on the violin everynight for several weeks straight.

Plus ttheir are background noises and such.

  • but she had to play it at least once in her life, i mean, how else do you think it was recorded? BEsides, just the speed and complicated notes she hits, you gotta throw her some slack =/

  • Dude, there are some really cool musicians that play their 8 minute solos live. But I'm not gonna argue about it since I have homework and a test to study for.

  • @bloody

I know you posted this hella long time ago, but I don't think it's fake, she clearly played 2 offnotes at 3:00-3:02, she was most certainly plugged in and playing it. Besides it would be a disgrace if she couldn't play this after 20+ years of playing violin IMO.

  • dude it did sound like she wasn't playing at all. I know she's played violin since forever (that's why i <3 her) but you live music is different than the one u listen on your cd player/ipod/whatever. Besides, this guy told me that she didn't play unlaced live, only face the wall.

  • I'm just saying if it was just playing a recording it wouldn't have randomly played 2 wrong notes. It could be fake, but I just don't think it is. /shrug

  • After listening to some of her other live videos, I can most definitely say this was fake haha. Oh well.

  • She does play, she just plays the real song so she can keep tempo.

  • She is amazing, thanks for post this video, i hope one day she come to México.

  • holy shit if i can get the sheet music for my instrument (viola) i would love it

  • I'm absolutely fascinated by this woman

  • me and u both lol

  • greaaaaaaaaaaat quuiltyyy

  • I'm going to see her live in a week!! I'm so stooooooooooooked!!!!

  • I'm trying to learn violin and this song makes me want to play it even more.

She makes it look so easy...

  • From like 0:30-0:33 you see like a quick flash and it is just so spooky but amazing =] I love her.

  • I am so proud to be a muffin ^^

  • Sameage. Haha.

    Devoted Muffin Slaves For Life!

  • This gives me goosebumps.

    It's so amazing. @.@

  • it's just as good at the CD version :]

    I LOVE IT

  • It's a shame there aren't a lot of good quality videos of Emilie. :(

  • wow~!

    she is great~!

love the rythem to this song~!

  • She's the reason I started to play violin with even more pride. The classical intrument in favor of new ages!

    I love you so, Emilie.
