By the time this reaches showrooms they will change everything about, you almost never get what you see when future cars are at the car shows. Can you make the car without ONSTAR please I hate big brother watching me. Turbo would be best for cars like that since most car makers are using them in their vehicles with them now.. Chevy this car should have been out by now just release it already stop being so damn slow at updating your cars please and thank you.
Most Malibu sales are with the 4-cyl.; not the V-6. Also, the style started to get stale; this new version comes out around Feb. 2012. Chevy knows that Kia and Hyundai have come in with the Optima and Sonata respectively and has made game changers. Chevy didn't come out stale with its redesign. They've added the e-Assist hybrid first before going to the high hp territory; they're working on it...
America i am begging you please dont stop building v8 engines do not let the muscle car die dont not copy eus in the uk and for god sake do not copy japan
Yea, their probably gonna add a 2 liter turbo charged direct injection engine, thats what most are doing and they should really consider adding it at launch for more sales! But the car looks great inside and out!
19 inch wheels? On a non-luxury family sedan? I like the looks of this car a lot, but how much of its appeal is owed to the oversized rims. Also, how much to replace a full set of tires?
They ALMOST gave it style. i know there is some in there. MY GOD! the only brand that I know of that has an even greater lack of styling than Chevy is Lexus. I mean this is the 21st century, I wanna see crazy shit with swoopy lines and jagged edges and air dams and nutty asymmetry (Not that I am a huge fan of the cube, but at least it is different) . These things look more like a bar of soap then ever. At least the grill has some texture.
I liked the interior and the exterior, but seriously, why would they put blue on brown!? Those are the least cohesive colors I can think of! And why would they completely take away the v6? Make a good v6 like FORD did, and turbocharge it, good mileage and good performance for less money.
@AnonymoussourceL0L Ford's car is a fullsize with more weight while this is a midsize with less. First the reason they are doing it is for CAFE regs. Second they are taking a page out of Hyundai's book. Offering the car with a 4 Cylinder only will decrease production costs from less parts on the assembly line and making thing more streamlined, making them more efficient. Also Ford has always had a performance model for the Taurus in the form of the SHO the Malibu has not, and most don't want it.
@AnonymoussourceL0L One of the reasons is probably because an overwhelming bulk of their sales are from the 4 cylinder, it's over 75% I bet (that's actually the US market as a whole I believe now). This car doesn't have the profit margins it once did and they need to find ways to cut costs to stay competitive, Hyundai did the same thing with the Sonata. The Camaro is full of low grade plastic and sold at a higher base along with less incentives. It's also a performance car, and has to meet CAFE
@AnonymoussourceL0L You're talking about the tiny 1 mm blue stitching? That's causing all the fuss? That's such a huge deal? Really? Uhh ok buddy..... Fucking trolls
@Hahaitssayed Me? Trolling? No! I'm serious! Is brown and blue not the least cohesive colors you can think of? Why couldn't they make it more... "presentable?" Like black with red stitching? I'm not fussing over the malibu because of its stitching because that's something I could change if I wanted to. I'm just not happy about the engine changes and such. So fuck you I guess :)
GM can make a 4 cylinder that is High Quality with decent Performance & High Gas Mileage. They finally caught up to Accord and Camry. I think GM will surpass the Imports will this New Malibu.
NO V6!!?? I can see a lot of complaints coming in about that forcing GM to add a V6. 4 Cylinders never did last as long as V6s. Can we please stop trying to be conservationists and find a nice balance between performance and efficiency!? 190hp doesn't get my blood boiling.
@ePicTyler22 Never was a Hyundai or Kia fan, but i gotta admit, job well done on the new Sonata. I mean Hyundai's 2.4liter makes 200hp, and at least they offer a turbo. GMs 2.5liter is 10hp short and no turbo yet?
@Zinizzle yeah. they probably will have a turbo eventually or maybe the V6 from the CTS, that would be nice. The 2013 Malibu is on the same platform as the new Buick Regal, so they will most likely share engines.
@menofat12:30 he clearly says "No V6" I think later on they might add a turbo like the Sonata did to it's 2.4L GDI. But GM is always so SLOW at everything.
I'm one of the consumers that chooses the V6 over the 4 banger. I like it because it's smoother, more power right out of the box, and engine revs are lower at highway speeds. Besides the other competitors will still offer a V6, so why is Chevy taking this route?
@adogg619 Only reason why is because of Fuel Consumption reasons, and Emissions. Most four cylinders achieve a ULEV (ultra low emission vehicle) rating. I wouldn't doubt it if the government still has their hands in it, they still partially own GM, probably did with that crap Volt too that no one can afford. But I'm just a fan of the good old V6 add VVT and it reduces emissions, I could spare a few miles to the gallon to have a powerful V6.
@adogg619 What kills me is that GM has plenty of displacement that they're not utilizing to it's full extent. Honda is great at utilizing displacement and having a nice power to efficiency ratio. And there power trains are almost flawless, "which the Japanese manufacturers are known for". But I mean come on Hondas 3.5Liter makes an impressive 271hp and with i-VTEC and VCM you get great power, low emissions, and fuel efficiency. I don't see the Malibu taking over the Accord or Camry.
That's true, companies like Honda utilize more horsepower per unit of displacement like you said.
But I think there's a trade off regarding torque. The current Accord and Malibu V6s make the same amount of torque, but in the Chevy it comes on earlier in the RPM range. Not to say anything bad about the Accord, I've read good reviews on their 3.5L V6.
@adogg619 Chevy is following Hyundai, in the fact that they''re not producing a V6 anymore. What you're gonna see most likely is a turbocharged 4 banger, which makes as much horsepower as a V6 and gets the fuel economy of a 4 banger. What you're most likely gonna see with Mainstream mid-size cars(Camry, Accord, Sonata, Fusion, Malibu, ect...) in the near future them dropping the V6 altogether and using light turbochargers instead.
I realize that, but understand this, not everyone likes the feel of an undersized turbo 4 banger. And if it requires premium gas, I don't see much advantage. With a bigger engine like a V6, you get a smoother more refined motor, it's capable of making reliable power unstressed, increased longevity and provides higher capabilities for future modifications if desired by the customer. In other words, no replacement for displacement.
@adogg619 You sir, represent a small number of consumers who want a V6. Most people aren't going to feel the difference between a turbocharged 4 banger and a v6. these's are light pressure turbos, so they don't require premium gas. 99% of the people who buys these cars aren't concerned about the car's capabilities for future modifications.
