THATS A SNACK?! Even when I wasnt on this diet I never had that as a snack! MAYBE if i decided to stay up until 3am, i'd have a bowl of cereal but NEVER that much!
it's not true what the narrator says that bulimia and anorexia are the most common eatingdisorders(2:35), most people that have a eating disorder have Binge eating disorder!!!
@fennomena84 He said "in the Netherlands", not all around the world. I'm sure if he where to factor in GB and the US then, yes, you would probably be accurate.
it's because of the ketosis. ketones have a kind of sickly sweet smell to them. an anoretic isn't getting nearly enough substance, so the body begins to burn fat, then ketones, and eventually muscle.
partly it's the rot happening inside you...your stomach is eating itself. you're not digesting properly. you get terrible breath in ketosis. i wouldn't be surprised if the smell of the sweat is different though, too. even your hair smells.
I don't know what the process is called in english but some anorexics when they start burning muscle there breathe smells like ammonia.
But I've noticed that the way the skin of an anorexis also smells different from that of a healthy person. I don't know why this is. Ofcourse when the hormones aren't there anymore the normal feromones are also absent.
it's more a loss of smell. And sometimes it seems like perfumes and deodorants don't "stick" to the skin.
But it also depents on what the anorexic does eat. I don't know why, but like when I ate a lot of mustard I got a strange "mustard-like" smell. And when thinner and on antibiotics or some other medicine some anorexics start smelling really weird.
Well, I know it is possible for foods to be excreted through the skin; I knew a family of Greek people and you could definately smell this faint sort of smell on them, because of the food they ate. So I guess it would stand to reason that mustard could come through too, especially if you were eating a lot of it, which I know anorexics sometimes do.
My heart goes out to you,I wish you recovery from this terrible disease and that you get to have the life you were meant to have. Thanks for the info
People from other country's always seem to smell different. I never connected it to the foods they eat, but I think might be right. Even "white" people when they eat spicey foods smell different. Thank you..but I'm already recovered! (it was a really long road though). I stumbled across this video by accident. I'm trying to figure out how the girl in the video is doing now, but I can't find any info on her except for a cute website she made when she was 12. I hope she's doing well.
I think you're right, it must be the spices, because I have also smelled it with Indian friends of mine. My husband was with the Marines and one night went out drinking and the next day he said everyone was repulsed by the smell of alcohol on him.
I am really glad you are well. I went through a very short time when I had an eating disorder and it could have gotten very very bad.I really can understand how someone with anorexia and/or bulimia might feel.Again, I am so happy you are free of that.
I have seen follow ups on her, and she is doing okay now :D I can't put it online unfortunately, and the video's that might be still online are only in dutch.
At first she was placed in another family, and she had to gain to go back home. On the next follow up she was recovered, at home, and could enjoy eating again.
Thank you! I am a speech pathologist and get all excited when I hear a word close to what I would say in English. I had German friend once and if she chose to, she could create sentences that were completely understandable in English.

That's the second time I heard that anorexics smell different. Is that true? And if so, why?

I thinks its the same like ketogendiet (dont know the good English word for it). When your on it your breath gets a acetonsmell.
DanniD 2 years ago
That makes sense. I've done that myself and yeah, your breath is disgusting. TY!

That is interesting...the skin too? Is it a bad smell? I can see the breath because of ketosis, but I didn't know it affected the skin....ty.
