  • this was bad, but i think Andy McDonalds was worse

  • Those boards were never the same.

  • Comment removed

  • classiest team in the league by far= red wings <3

  • @NasreenN101 Agreed...100%

  • @NasreenN101 agreed.

  • thats happened to me before and it fucking sucks

  • why is it that every time someloses an edge and goes into the boards its theyre right skate or foot

  • Yeah may checked on him. But he dropped his gloves at the top of the circle and skated over there. I think maybe he was ready to fight thinking he took a run at the Wings player. Then realized there was an injury. Maybe not. But someone please explain why he threw his gloves off from the top of the circle as soon as the collision. That doesnt make sense. What could he have possibly done by throwing them off? Skate over there and carry the guy to the bench??

  • @tonytonz88 The Only thing i was thinking is its easier to help someone without gloves..Seriously, have you ever tried doing anything other then holding gear with those gloves? Its down right impossible

  • @tonytonz88 HAbit ;)

  • @tonytonz88 HAbit ;)

  • 24 from the wings, being a good guy! It's nice to see chivalry isn't completely dead!

  • Its was Brad May!!

  • props to maltby and may for helping him out!

  • Cute Asian Girl in the Crowd

  • Cute Asian Girl in the crowd

  • classiest team in NHL- detroit red wings

  • Respect To Brad May And Kirk Maltby

  • are we human or dancers?

  • that was brad may, the wings enforcer, you know, the fighter, the one whos supposed to be the meanest on the team? who was first there to help and hes's not even on the same team.

  • @SmilesHK Well they say Enforcers are the first to help other ppl and the first to sign up for hospital visits

  • Some dumbass thought it was "Jamie Mcgruffy"

  • At least the guy from the other went over to try and help

  • Just fucking insta-Glove removal.... You Could Tell He Was Freaked Right The Hell Out, Anyone Know Who It Actually Was?

  • My neck hurts from watching that...DAMN!!

  • Thats insane,Im so glad he wasn't injured even worse!

  • Hey guys lol btw thats my cousin lol just sayin :P

  • that's a brain injury there....I think the players on the other team were just as scared as anyone...that was bad

  • @sWaGxProduction thats what she said!!!!

  • Wing's players showed a lot of class there. Maltby was calling for a trainer right away and May dropped his stick and gloves right away to help.

  • just really hard to watch honestly..you know the brain is not working there

  • noob get outta my lobby

  • Really great to see the one Wings player calling for medical staff right away and for another to come and check on Johnson. Thats respect.

  • I was at this game! double fistin' . I was like Johnson has em!! then boom. Fuckin tripping. this man is an Iron Horse. I wish we would have kept him. all heart, he will never get the credit he deserves.

  • not only does Chelios stop to check on him, he comes from the other side of the ice. Great sportsmanship

  • @Samwize047 that was may not chelios right number just wrong guy =]

  • scary

  • these guys are professionals, dont worry about him.

  • those detroit players have class unlike the shitago blackocks

  • I think I speak for all of the red wing fans (I being one) when I say that I am proud to see in such a brutal sport, where there is so much dispute, a tough guy like Brad May will step up and tend to Ryan Johnson.

  • Mad props to the Red Wings player who leaned over to see if he was okay

  • @lucas1484

o know talk about good sportsmanship

  • @lucas1484 and for the other red wing player who called over the ref to stop play!

  • @lucas1484 i think it was brad may

  • @lucas1484 i agree and I usally HATE the red wings for things of the complete opposite, so it was either Lidstrom, Datsyuk, or Zetterberg

  • @isamtheman87 wow i have to reply to myself! :P it was Brad May, forgot he was on the team at that time

  • @isamtheman87 it was Brad May ;)

  • @Jagh55 Best part is May dropped his gloves as soon as he came into frame. Thought he was going to fight him for interfering with the boards for a second there.

  • This is why you MUST check other players! Look what happened. He was going full speed and dodged two people (he could have checked on the way), but no, he dodged them and went straight to the boards. As harsh at it is, checking MUST be done. You can't have guys skating full speed on the ice with nothing to stop them but the boards. Hockey is, and will always be a violent sport.

    I hope he's alright.

  • @tna420wrestling that is a rude comment.

  • respect for the detroit players...most people don't realize that hockey players have a huge amount of respect for one another and are very concerened when injuries like this or any kind happen

  • after replaying the thing over and over again.. it seems he didn't go head first into the boards. he hit his back first but then when he hit the boards, his head whipped behind him hitting the boards

  • a player just got injured yet they r playing a gay-ass song...WTF?!!?!?

  • @maxstein2011 its a good song.......at least they didnt play cotton eyed joe

  • Look at 0:20.

I respect any player of the opposite team who can tend to another injured opponent. Hockey isn't about laughing when he goes down, i respect all players who can go out of their way to see if another opponent is ok. That was a truly respectful move, i bet you Sean Avery would have laughed and skated away.

  • I was at that game, just got my second round of beers, sat down and said "johnson's gunna get er done" then that. i was trippin!!!

  • Hurts just to watch this.

  • I could swear this is identical to Ovechkin's headbutt on the boards...

  • Damn...

  • Hope he is ok. U never wanna see that happen to a guy

  • though he did go into the boards headfirst, it was probably more shoulder contact.

  • @cRichard91 did you see what he did wit hhis back though?

  • @AlphaCrosby the more i look at it.. i see his back did twist.

  • @cRichard91 ya and afterwords u can tell his muscles in his backare contracting around his spine..thats dangerous...u can tell by the way he tenses u and his hand go infront of him

  • @AlphaCrosby what are you now? a fucking doctor? didnt think so.

  • @cRichard91 he did like a frickin backflip

  • He looked up right at the last second to turn his head... saved his life.

  • legs were moving because they were twitching and seizing...he was out for awhile...I hit the boards in the exact same way once when I was tripped from behind...when I woke up I could feel anything below my chest...after about 15 minutes everything came back...I had a stinger in my spinal chord....scared me quite a bit...I like how the Wings players came to his aid like that...if he didn't turn his head to the left her would have broken his neck for sure

  • imagine this back in the days without helmet...

  • Still hurts to watch this.

  • Scariest part of the game every time I step on the ice I worry about this happening to me or my team mates.

  • Rest in Peace

  • @WFR He lived

  • u guys r such pussies....its fucking hockey

  • Classy by the Wings to help out right away

It's a good thing he went in neck first and not head first. Could have been much worse

  • this is erily similar to the jamie mcgruffy death

  • watch at 2:05

  • What's his status? Is that the reason he's not playing now?

btw, 5 min penalty on May for throwing his gloves...

  • Wow Canucks players really love each other... they all look sad = ( Atleast his fine except for the foot...

  • Max respect to Brad...

  • ugh, i was at this game, it was terrifying seeing that happen, just how fast he slid into the boards.

  • dude, Brad May rocks!

  • @boige yea classy play by him

  • It was pretty scary moment for the Cancuks fans

  • @cedarfox1 yea it does and idk if u saw this but um when clarke macarthur on the sabres agaisnt the oilers he hit i think some reddbox dude and he immeditally went over to him while the other team was trying to like kill him lol but he stayed with the guy instead of fighting for himself i like those players

  • As they pkay the killers

  • that was a good thing that the guy on the opposite team of johnson stopped the game and then came over to check on him. it shows sportsmanship..

  • that was brad may the enforcer, and ex canuck.

  • @cedarfox1 chelios I believe, what an athlete he is!

  • @NiCaoMa no, it was may

  • @Bokyotheturnip My bad.

  • @cedarfox1 It is hard to find people like that. I say the same. That is the best sportsmanship.

  • @cedarfox1 thats detroit for you... DETROIT WOOO

do you think vancouver wouldve done the same?!

  • @tomahawked100 i agree Detroit is one of the most classy teams in the nhl. but hockey is prolly the most classy sport out there in regards to the players...any hockey player would have done it if they were standing right there....Maltby was quick to signal to the bench for help too. And Yes a vancouver player would have done the same thing. i guarantee it.

  • @dandandamattressman LOL Vancouver would help a Detroit player? Vancouver? The team that dogpiled on top of Steve Moore and broke his neck in 3 places? No.

  • @pinhead739 ok that was a bad example...that steve moore thing wasnt the vancouver team as much as it was todd bertuzzi...and he plays for detroit now. BUT REGARDLESS, you are right about Detroit being waaay more classy than Vancouver. I think a better example would be to say "look at vancouver, they have Raffi Torres and....BITERS!!"

  • @dandandamattressman Vancouver traded Raffi Torres to Phoenix. Just sayin

  • @cedarfox1 did he die?

  • when i saw how he bounced of the boards i knew he was down hard

  • aw johnny =(

i remember i was sooo scared when i saw this on tv .. i was like omg right when he hit the circle i knew it looked wrong how he was skating .. i thought he was like paralyzed =\

also , really classy by may and maltby to help out .. pure class .

what sucks now is his foot is broken cause he blocked a shot .. he just doesnt get a break =(

    get better johnny !

    <3 #10

  • Did the really play loud music as he was being treated?

Such a different culture to ours.

  • douche

  • Always a scary part of the game.

  • Honestly ryan johnson is one of our best players he has amzing faceoff skills and he is one of the best shot blockers in the league on top of that he can skate and make the odd play here and there. Definately a big piece to our team!!! glad to see him back

  • it was kinda funny to listen waht the coach said on canucks(dot)com.... the qustion was,

    "how is ryan johnson"

"if it were up to him, he's be out on the ice tomorrow for the morning skate"

johnson is one of our main players, and a very great skater, i'm glad he's not out for a while... like Damitra... who is getting MORE surgery on his shoulder... and may not even play this year...=S

  • @jakesparrow0 R.I.P Demitra, and the entire Lokomotiv team. :(

  • @jakesparrow0 rest in peace Demitra...

  • your one of those guys who puts asshole comments on random videos looking for a fight arnt you, you should prob get a life and this is the last im gona say on it because i dont argue with retarded kids

  • Learn to spell you illiterate hick.

  • i heard when i was watching the rangers canucks game they said ryan johnson was skating in practice

  • i saw it live. very scary. in the end, he got a concussion and 'soreness'... but is expected to start skating in a couple days. glad he'll be ok.

oddly, they did the scoreboard shoutouts (those celebrating birthdays, etc.) while he was lying there. little bit awkward.

  • Glad that he's going to be okay.

It was freaking scary to see.

& whether you love him or hate him, Brad May is one of the classiest guys. Was great to see him go over to see if he could help.

  • first class from detroits brad may for droping his gloves to try and help an injuried player from another team out.

  • Get well soon Ryan.

  • i was there and i could see him just crash head first in to the boards hope he gets better

  • whats your halloween costume this year champ? bet mine is sexier

  • See kids, that's what happens when you do rails pre game.

  • "the legs are moving, thats always good" it means that the guy won't be a vegatable.

  • You can clearly see the detroit player who held his mouth, and bends down near him.. bumped Johnson's skate when he was trying to slow down spreading his legs apart. like a skiier does to slow down.

  • it's always touching to see everyone cheering when an injured player gets back up in whatever way he does!

  • Fuck! They were doing good so far! Dammit! Go Canucks! Hometown fan

  • this actually doesnt look so bad compared to some of the brutal head shots that have been going on lately. i hope he is alright regardless.

  • fuckin deadly

  • man that looked painful. not a vancuver fan, but i really hope he recovers quickly

  • i've done the same thing it sucks and its really hard to defend yourself.

  • i hit the board like that once... i finished the season and havent played since (Like 5 years) it was a personal choice not the injury

  • shut the fuck up faggots. he was in shock that he fell, he never fucking assumed he would hit the boards that hard idiots.

  • people who comment on how he couldve raised his head before impact never have played hockey before in their life. At least competitive hockey. This thing happened in a split second.

  • he had 2 SECONDS to brace himself....what was he thingking????

  • you're a fuckin idiot. i'll bet ur a fat slob that hasn't played one sport in your pathetic life. if u knew anything you'd know that your comment was stupid. when you're tripping like that you don't know you're gonna smash head first into the boards in a half second like that. he was trying to regain balance and not give up right away. id love for you to smash your head and get taken off in a stretcher and then ask you what the hell you were thinking..... you fuckin faggot.

  • btw DrewEl2... i timed it about 5 times and got between 0.9 and 1.1 seconds from the time he lost his footing to the time his head smashed the boards. not even close to 2 seconds so STFU. and even if he did have 2 seconds i wouldn't be surprised if he couldn't recover after losing his footing like that and going at that speed. and even then you can't judge him cause you're not him and u don't know exactly what happened, not even the camera knows.

  • Sad.

  • red wings guy went over to look/help

    good sportsmanship =D

    get better soon

  • You guys are stupid, YOU think you can stop in like half a secound?

  • Your going that fast, fall, good luck stopping or getting up... nearly impossible the way he did.

  • I really liked Johnson when he played for the Blues; he was a work-horse. I hope he's alright.

  • If you've ever played hockey before you would know that you can't stop when your going that fast and trip it's basically impossible, I agree he should have turned around but he went into the boards so fast it must have been hard to.

  • could have stopped himself in my opionion or at least have turned a bit so that he doesn't hit his head

  • you don´t think he tried?

  • your a fucking retard your probly some fat ass kid who thinks that he knows hockey but doesnt know fuck all let me whip you into the boards like that and you tell me if you and turn you fucking dumb cunt

  • how about you catch a ball i throw at you a second after you turn around?

  • Hope he's okay. Props to May for helping him out.

  • The chick in the 2nd row with the AMAZING rack, most likely had something to do with this!

  • i play hockey myself and done a similar sort of thing a few weeks ago (i was obviously going nowhere near as fast) and this is really painful. hope he recovers soon

  • Class acts , Maltby and May

  • this is all obamas fault

    lol

  • Gotta tip your hat to May. He had his gloves off and skated to help him out. True hockey player. And for Johnson, all the best, tuff, hard nosed player who we will see on the ice soon.

  • The friggin guy actually came to GM Place this morning and wanted to practice with the team already.

  • i don't find that hard to believe.

  • Maltby and May were sincerely concerned which I tip my hat to.

  • As a Wings fan and watching this game I was concerned. I don't like seeing any player get injured like that.

  • Not sure if it was May or Maltby that dropped his stick and gloves before skating over but I was mighty impressed with that.

  • Maltby called for the trainer right away and May was the 1 who dropped his gloves and stick to try to help out. I seen Datsyuk make sure another player was ok after he was hit in the back of the head with the puck.

  • who ever it was, that was a nice thing to do, just go over to see if he's alright

  • @dm101176 I love how the red wings players rush over to help great sportsmanship :)

  • thats bad

  • its bad seeing something like this, was watching the game live and it was just a brutal feeling, when its a cheap hit you atleast have someone to blame and get mad at but when its an accident and a guy falling like that its just sad

  • The minute he goes into the boards, it's almost like you can see his spin shatter... yikes man, no matter who you cheer for, if that guy comes back from that you gotta give him a hand... that was devistating. May and Maltby were right there though, gotta hand it to those guys for, even though they didn't really do anything, you could tell both of them were genually conserned, and I think Maltby quicky told a trainer to get out.. but damn, that looked awful

  • Booth, Tucker, Johnson, too many players leaving the ice on stretchers these days.

    Hard to watch.

Still the greatest sport in the world though.

  • I liked how quickly Maltby and May reacted to Ryan slamming into the boards. They knew right away what had happened and try to help, pure class and respect for those guys. Getter better Johnson

  • anyone who is rude to him are just fucking stupid. I hope you get better RYAN!!

  • this is so gut renching ,... saw it live and i was like hooooly fuck ...

  • cant believe that he is alright! TUFF MOFO ... please come back strong hate to see someone go into the boards like that

  • Oh S!@# at 0:13

  • ugh his body wasn't looking good after he hit the wall, i thought the worst, good thing hes ok.

  • ur fked up in the mind if ur trying 2 make any kind of joke about this

    Get Well Ryan

  • Comment removed

  • sedins heads in the way

  • he lost more than an edge he lost his dignity

  • How? He's on ice, this shit happens.

  • Ryan is a great kid with some wheels, I hope he has a super quick-no problem recovery. Other than this accident what a great game! Lu is crazy good. GET WELL R.J. from us Redwing fans.

  • He actually isn't a kid lol more like a veteren, I appreciate the comment
