  • was is the point to make a new Version of the movie with no diffrance at all ? both of the movie have the some Scene the same Dialogue and the same character.

  • I feel something (most things) just work better in the original.. The atmosphere. Look at the shots.. They are not the same.. Compare the total shot of dad and son in the boat, notice the horizon and the sizes compared to the a little bit more "overwhelming" looks of the original. This way I feel the original works better, like the family is more trapped.. In the remake it seemed easier getting help etc. When the neighbours come sailing etc. Something felt more hopeless in the original.. imo.

  • Yeah, both Naomi and Roth was good, and the killers too. Guess I was just more creeped out by the original than the remake.. Also the original looks warmer, with more yellow lights than blue cold lights. Which was a better contrast to the cold killers' actions imo. The remake is good though! Just not as good as the original=p

  • This movie is one of the best scarey/creepy movies ever. Never knew there was a 1997 version

  • Like seriously? Only the 97' is a masterpiece? Stop quoting bad reviews and judge for yourself - the 2007 had OUTSTANDING performances. While the 97' version was really good, the 2007 is a level above. That is if you can handle the slow-paced action. Some simple-minded whackaloons can't. Sorry for being offensive... not.

  • The original actress seemed more dedicated and into it than Naomi Watts (check out the last scene in the house, when they start stabbing her husband, that's shock in her eyes, it was more just despise in Watts' expressions).

I also think that all the other actors worked better in the original, and believe me I wanted to love the remake as much as the original, cause I liked getting this great movie with fresher visuals etc. It's still good. And finally, unimaginative lazy Americans can watch it.

  • @Nutplucker Ouch man. :< Hurt my little heart here. We're not all that lazy. Just....a majority. I really enjoyed the 97 myself, haven't seen the 2007 one.

  • @Nutplucker Does the original require more effort than the remake?

As an American I watched both and enjoyed them both. I don't understand your comment at all.

  • Österreichisches Meisterwerk

  • 1997 is fucking MASTERPIECE!!!!!

  • SBV123. I think people that saw the original will always side with the original as that was funny games to them! Just like me I side with this one, mainly cus it,s in my language and because I saw this first!

  • one is in english and the other isn't

  • The two films are exactly the same. If you dispute this, then you are saying that Haneke failed. Which he didn't.

  • I prefer the 2007 film :3

  • can someone tell me why the 97' is a masterpiece but the 07' isn't? i've watched them both and they're virtually identical.

  • @SBV123

97' is a masterpiece because of the idea, it is an original

the one from 07' is - you said it - just a copy ... with other actors and in english ^^

  • @ANFproducerOfficial if someone prefers the english version b/c of the language and actors then how can the 97 version be more of a masterpiece? to me the 07 version is a maserpiece simply b/c im getting the same great movie by the same director only with actors i prefer and in a language i speak. i can only understand your point if you watched the 97 version first and was completely satisfied with it. if that's the case then 07 movie shouldn't have even grabbed your attention.

  • @SBV123 one word: acting

  • @SBV123 I allways think it is because most americans can not be botherd to read Subs on a movie. thats why you get so many remakes like Ringu, Dark water and most recently Girl with the dragon tattoo.

  • Honestly, this is just a modern exploitation movie. It's about grisly murders enacted by home invaders, and then trying to throw in a "message to society" to make it look classier than it is. Messed up stuff here.

Also, Tim Roth is a horrible actor.

  • Paul's wink in the 1997 version is godly, and he has the most soothing voice. What I did with this movie was turn the "message" back on itself and root for the killers the whole time. It's not hard in the 1997 version, because the killers are charismatic and have wonderful facial expressions, whereas in the U.S. version they act like preppy pricks. And I sat that as an American viewer

  • @MrWeasley1 I just don't feel the same. Of course, I may be biased because I adore Michael Pitt. His performance is what I love most about this film and it is definitely Michael Pitt that compells me to watch this film over and over.

  • @iamcasihart

Are you disturbed by the realism of this movie at all? Just about everyone who's seen it is, but I can't really take it very seriously. There's a real element of black humor.

  • @MrWeasley1 The first time, I was shocked, disturbed, uncomfortable and surprised at how much I loved it, (except for the dog...I can handle human death in a film, but NEVER an animal). I have now viewed this film about 25 times and I find myself intrigued by the "proper English" used by Paul and Peter. I find much of it to be, as you mentioned, black humor.

  • My biggest problem with this movie is that it was so outrageously slow. I understand that the writer was sending a message that society liking to watch violence is messed up, but at least make it entertaining for the viewers. It would make them feel more guilty once they figured out the message of the movie.

  • one of the best horror film ever......and terribul dialogues

George: Why are you doing this to us? Paul: Why not?

  • Although they seem to be very similar, the actors make a huge difference, and the remake went at a much faster pace. Americans seem to have a hard time watching things that are slower and more drawn out, which is why the original is much better it really brings more suspense and reality to the movie.

  • @adirtysunset Speak for yourself, asshole.

This whole anti-American bullshit for the sake of being anti-American is just fucking annoying already. The 2007 remake is a frame-by-frame remake. Same scenes, different language and actors. Nothing is more "drawn out".

Wrap your sophisticated mind around that you sorry fuck.

  • The 1997 version is by far the best. There's just no point of comparison between Naomi Watts and Susane Lothar, and Ulrich Mühe is one of the best actors in the history of film. Fucking remakes. If I had seen only the american trailer I would've never seen the film. Thank God I watched the original first.

  • i felt for the doggies in the movies

  • whats the piece of music that starts at 34 seconds?

  • @zigityno2 "Bonehead", by Naked City.

  • @zigityno2 It's a faster version of "Dovregubbens Hall" or "In the Hall of the Mountain King" by Edvard Grieg :)

  • The 1997 version is better because of Ulrich Mühe. Isn't he such a great actor?

  • YES!! And every single character in 1997 version is fantastic (even those who appear for anly few scenes)

  • the 2007 one was really REALLY shitty. is the '97 version any better?

  • It's impossible to compare the 2 movies. The 1st one you watch is going to stick with you more, as the 2nd will be the "remake" in your mind (if you get me) and it'll be impossible to watch without comparing it to the first one you saw...

  • i own the original, but im kind of glad that michael haneke didnt change anything in the american remake.

    love both of them.

  • I love and own both films, but I personally prefer the remake.

  • 1997 is better

  • Bullshit

  • The movies make you stop and realize just how screwed up this world is. You can't even go ask your neighbor for some eggs without fear of being killed. It was interesting and it killed time. No pun intended.

  • @AlexisAlways1

I've just read all 3 of your comments, something tells me you're trying to provoke a response, no?

  • @seanyboyrebel No, I wasn't. Everyone has their own opinions.

  • @AlexisAlways1

You missed the point of the movie, then.

  • This should teach people to still have land-line phones and not just cell phones. The takes her sweet time getting outside, more concerned with the cell phone, and then when she finally does get her ass outside she screams for help. It made her look stupid as if they were asking for it., i.e., "She might as well screamed, "Oh killers I'm over here, but please don't come to hurt or kill me!"

  • Geeze, at least, fight and die while trying to survive. Husband was a wimp. Oh, yes, tell your wife to take off her clothes "honey." Should have listened to their dog. Usually, dogs don't bark like that unless something's wrong. Animals are smart and warn us humans many times and we ignore them.

  • fucking remakes

  • This movie is really fucked up, its one of those things that can seriously happen and what not, thats whats fucked up about the movie

  • @ryanmanawesome God yes I agree. This movie was never meant to be a horror one, but it was so damn realistic and scary I almost fainted when watching it. Now I always double check the Goddamn front door...

  • @ryanmanawesome Yeah, like the korean movie "Black house" Insurance murderer....scary shit.

  • @ryanmanawesome Thank you. That's my point.

  • 1997 by a landslide.

  • introduction trailer copy paste ?

  • two wicked mentaly sick movies xD

  • fuck that. the actors prettiness doesnt make any difference on the movie. the first one is much better, actually.

  • oh my god stop talking about how the actors arent as pretty in the 97 version. IF ANYTHING, THAT HELPS WITH THE POINT OF THE FILM YOU ASSHOLES

  • Micheal Pitt was perfect for this movie ^_^

  • Its a fact..less attractive ppl are far better actors. WHY? because they don't have people constantly being nice to them..they know true pain!LOL

  • '97 version looks like a shit remake xD

BUT FOR BE THE ORIGINAL IS GREAT!

  • what do u mean the 97 1 looks like a shit remake

    but the originals great?

  • cuz the '97 version (the original) looks bad

like in others comments say that the actors are ugly xD

but this is the original version so it's great cuz this have the original idea of the movie

  • What is disturbingfinally is to read people 's comments here.they seem unaware the film is realy aboutThem and theinhuman standardswe have created .thisstuff is happeningeveryday . a laugh instead of discussing WHY these movies are made and how we can change the dangerous climate we live in.Why Haneke remake?

since the woman stabbed in 1967New York while people heard from their windows We can no longer be kindtostrangers.conventions.the child is the first to die.the movie on somany levels

  • i agree.... i hate how people and the critics judge this movie so harshely when they dont even understand the point of it

  • and whats the point??

  • @ArnyRecords its hard for me to explain exactly by a comment....to sum it up its to show how all people watch on tv and movies is violence....if u want a more detailed answer check out reviews of this movie i think some might say what the point is, that supported this movie :)

  • the characters of 97 are ugly

  • true, 97 characters are indeed ugly

  • This movie is awesome, but I wish both versions had In the Hall of the Mountain King somewhere in them.

  • The 1º 97 is BEST MOVIE ORIGINAL!

    May From: BRAZIL

  • mentally disturbing movie!

  • 97 masterpiece

  • This movie (2007 version) always brings a smile to my face. I have to track down the '97 version.

  • I luv the 2007 version it's one of my favorite movies.

  • 2007. They were so damn polite. (:

  • 07 fo sho

paul fucked with them in a happy playful manner, he was so polite. that woul make me shit my pants the worst, not knowing what happens next

  • 97 obra maestra.

    2007 cagada! :P

  • bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

es la misma historia, las mismas escenas, los mismos dialogos!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ¿¿¿que criticas???

  • I just saw the 2007 one, Freaky shit not horror wise but mind wise

  • damn theyre exactly the same. he rly planned the shots to a tee. i just saw the 2007 version and it's the scariest movie i've ever seen. It's so not mainstream horror or nothing like that. No scary images just a real mindfuck. Don't watch it if you're easily disturbed but again it's not like there are scary images

  • 2007

  • naomi watts is too disney-alike. She was only taken for the bucks by our dear maker (fact!!!!!!). I cannot find another explanation

  • 2007 for sure

  • i like that the 2007 one wasnt as serious and it was more silly. it makes the two killers look a lot more sadistic, just toying around with the family and having fun with it and just messing around. idk if i were to be a serial killer i would try and be something similar to the kids in the 07 version.

  • If you were a serial killer?

    0_0

  • the 1997 one felt like it really could happen compare to this, which just feels like another movie, if that makes sense...?

  • I think the 2007 version was purposely made a bit less malicious and was designed to operate as more of a social commentary than a horror flick (which it certainly isn't, by any stretch of the imagination.)

  • 1997. No doubt.

  • 97 for sure. 07 is just a mere parody

  • I really thought for a moment the guy who played Peter er tubby er tom or whatever they called him lol was Ryder Strong. Then I figured out it was Brady Corbet. The dude who plays the brother in the movie Thirteen!

  • The 1997 version is so much more serious! I think this fits the movie better and makes it seem more realistic.

  • The winner is 2007!!! beacos the music trailer is fantastic!!!!

  • 2007 definitely. Micheal Pitts indifference towards the violencemakes the whole thing soo much better.

  • could you edit the new movie, and make it like the old trailer ?

Would you do that for me ?

    i hope so...

  • 07 because i didnt have to read goddammn subtitles

  • The acting in the original wins out, especially Arno Frisch over the painfully wooden Michael Pitt.

  • the winner is 2007!!! beacos the music is fantastic!!!!

  • paul is much better in 1997

  • @isjet

    You mean jerry?

  • I prefer the 1997 :P It was awesome!

  • In my opinion especially Susanne Lothar and Ulrich Mühe were much better than Naomi Watts and Tim Roth from the U.S. Remake.

  • the only thing i liked about the remake better than the original is that you feel more hatred towards the killers, while in the original the killers seem less violent and enjoyable than they really are even though the exact same things happen..

    its weird, but yeah..

  • The re-make was veeery awesome, especially because Peter and Paul really began to look like maniacs!

  • plus theyre freakin hott!

  • I saw the newer one before i had heard of the 1997 and I loved it. But now that I realize there is another one an "original" i'll be sure to check it out.

  • I have seen them both and although the 2007 re-make is very good, i still prefer the original.

  • 1997 is better

  • this movie is everyghing BUT sensual. i would say it is sensual for a sadist.

  • i prefer the austrian/original version. I thought peter and paul were a better fit appearance wise.

  • Does the 2007 preview remind anyone of A Clockwork Orange Preview? Fast bits of scenes and flashing words?

  • I saw the US version and I think thats the only one I really need to see, much more amazing actors.

  • the 97 version makes more sense because the actor the main bad guy calls fatty....is fat....but the guy the main bad guy calls tubby in the 08 version...isnt tubby

  • OMG i wanna watch this movie!!! its gonna come up in cinemas in 2 days here in spain i cant waiiiiit!!!

    sooo freaky!!!

  • La vi ayer (ya habia visto la original que es fantástica), y es iwal de buena....El plano final me dejó helado frente a la pantalla....

  • this movie is crazy.

they both seem the same though.

and the guy that winked is WAYY cuter (:

  • i like the wink better than the smile, and the original guy who winked is much cuter.

  • I agree! I really like Arno Frisch. And he was a much better pick for the role of "Paul" than Michael Pitt.

  • The only really similar parts of the trailer is at the beginning of both...wait till both films come out and then put some of the scenes together!

  • I did that.
