  • @USgovernmentLies go to groove shark.com

  • right off the rip. "am i losin" one of the best damn guitar solos ever

  • @USgovernmentLies I couldnt agree more with this. sounds fucking godly

  • Okay so the song at 6:48, You run around, was one that I could not find anywhere. there's no track labeled that on the first album. someone guide me where to find that because i NEED it

  • @ddeuble2355 it's on the skynyrd album called "Sykynyrd's First" not "Pronounced". you know that right?

  • Comment removed

  • The guitar solo at 1:15 (Roll Gypsy Roll) sounds like a Gibson Firefird - which means it's probably Allen

The guitar solo at 2:24 sounds like Steve-O on his Gibson Les Paul Custom, not Gary

The guitar solo at 3:07 is Steve and Allen playing a dual lead

  • You left out Ed King, who btw did the first solo on your video "Am I losin' " You can even hear him do a signature lick from "Sweet home Alabama" in the solo (he wrote and did the solo on Sweet Home Alabama)

  • What happened to the guitar solo?

  • trying to play the steve gaines. you don't know anything, but your path will kill you . Ed king brought them into am radio, so go fuck a monkees ass

  • gary in his best did it with allen and ronnie

  • sounds like barry harwood on Dobro at 2.45....

  • Best band ever. Thanks for posting these killer solos - Lynyrd Skynyrd forever.

  • are you sure that is GR at 2.52???

  • @wozjj

    Thats Steve Gaines

  • That's Ed King doing the solo in Am I Losin, not GR.

  • Ehat about Ed King?

  • the end of you run around FUCKING SICK!!!!

  • From what album is the song at 6:48?

  • @Pagio994 from Skynyrd's first

  • Thanks

  • the first solo is Ed King.... his tribute to Toy Caldwell...

  • I agree skynrds guitarist were very tastefull and skilled very skilled guitaerist with so much feeling

  • ANYBODY HERE FROM THE SHOALS AREA? I WAS BORN IN SHEFFIELD

  • oh I know.. love not only the different 3 guitar configurations, but the way it was an ego-less situation. Steve AND Ed both were the "hot dudes" in their line-ups.. and Allen was a MF'er of the highest order.

  • sorry kids.... "I Know a Little" is THEEEEE best guitar solo ever by LS

  • the original band was the best and really made southern rock what it is after RVZ passed on and Gary put this side show on the road its just a bad band i think RVZ played to the fans and wrote from the heart he might have been a RED NECK but i guess you could say we all are that live in the south but Gary is AL about the money and he should let LS rest.RIP RVZ

  • I Love Ed.

  • @SmokeBojangles i love ed more than you

  • @JustAintthatWay lets Marry Him!

  • On Am I Losing...that is Ed King...unmistakeable.

  • ed king was good, but steve gaines was the best damn picker of the whole group and ronnie even said one day they would all be in his shadow, he knew it and they show cased him with street survivors. but the other guess was still legends in my opinion. no dis respect to them at all. (Rest In Peace) RVZ , AC , SG , BP ,LW ,CG . .

  • I'm sure someone has already pointed these out in the comments, but if not: The "Am I Losin'" solo was played by Ed King, not Gary Rossington. The "Jackonsville Kid" solo (as you've called it - the actual name of the song is "Honky Tonk Night Time Man") was played by Steve Gaines, not Gary Rossington.

  • I think there's no such thing as a guitar 'solo' from Skynyrd. There is the greatest guitar playing of all time, but nobody is ever alone. There are always three of them. Listen to the jam at the end of "That Smell' when Steve and Allen go at it together and then Gary picks up and wraps it up for them. It's my favorite, but there are many other examples. (Ah there it is, I see it's included on this recording).

  • I Recomend never listening to sweet home alabama or free bird, lol they have so many better songs than them 2,its like when someone says i know ''thin lizzie''& they say jailbreak, and boys are back in town, lol they have so many better songs,

  • @evelskunny ha luv it & couldnt agree more lizzy's two worst

    songs were their biggest hits

  • @evelskunny SURE, GOT THAT RIGHT!

  • Steve Gains was a guitar player's guitar player......his style was a little more technical and melodic. His solo in "you got that right" stands the hair up on my arms every time.

  • nice compilation buddy!

  • Fantastic, thanks for posting. The fact is Steve, Allen, and Gary all kick ass. All three are very near or right at the top of a huge mountain of geat guitar players. But if you really put me to it, Gary hits me where I live.

  • Start with Simple Man, Ballad of Curtis Loew, Down South Jukin, 4 walls of raiford, Needle and the Spoon, That Smell, Don't ask me no questions, Aint no good life, T for Texas and Gimme three steps, If you don't like those, you wont like the rest, if you like them you can pick just about any original Skynyrd song and you will like what you hear.

  • One of my very favorite Skynyrd tunes, and one that shows the breadth of their skills is "Ballad of Curtis Loew". Absolutely love that song.

  • "I know a little" a Gaines classic first performed by his band Crawdad to name one of Skynyrds best.

  • love that pic of ronnie and gary at 1:24

  • Am I Losin' Roll Gypsy Roll Ain't No Good Life Honky Tonk Night Time Man You Got That Right Sweet Home Alabama (Live 1976) Searchin' (Live 1976) Gimme Back My Bullets (Live 1976) You Run Around (Muscle Shoals) ?
  • My favorite LS song AND solo has to be "One More Time" from "Street Survivors". I'm not sure who did the solo (Gary, Allen or Steve), but great vibrato and very tasty note choices. I still get shivers when I hear it. "...So tonight I'll take what I paid for One More Time"

  • ROLL GYPSY ROLL !!!!!

  • Here we all are arguing over who wrote this who did that. The fact of the matter is that the Stretch of music that the Original Lynyrd Skynyrd produced is absolutly perfect. No one man is responsible for how amazing every sound produced from each member worked together so well in such perfection.

  • @supaballzpdp true....it has to be a recipe, that's how it works.

  • Roll Gypsy Roll!

  • great

  • ED KING did the Lead in "Am I Losin"!

STEVE GAINS did the lead solo in "Honkeytonk Nightime Man " (jacksonville kid)

Allen Collins AND Steve Gaines play the solo at the end of "You've Got That Right"

I've Been A HUGE Skynyrd Fan since 1975 (of the REAL Skynyrd - pre 1977), have seen the "Real " Band Live (1976) , play myself, and can tell the difference between a Gibson and a Fender.

  • ED KING did the Lead in "Am I Losin"!

  • WRONG AGAIN - STEVE GAINS did the lead solo in "Honkeytonk Nightime Man " (jacksonville kid)

  • I'll give you a list. Every thing they ever did. I have every song they ever did in a box set. That Smell Freebird Working for MCA are some of the greatest most powerful guitar jams ever.

Whenever I get the blues I listen to Tuesday's Gone and they go away.

  • Great vid ! A few errors though. Thats Allen that plays the Roll Gypsy Roll solo @ 1:16 . His sequences are always unmistakeable, like the one @ 1:31 .

  • Great vid ! A few errors though. Thats Allen that plays the Roll Gypsy Roll solo @ 1:16 . His sequences are always unmistakeable, like the one @ 1:31 .

  • SimpleMan lotch of thanks m8, for making me search more about this Legendary Band. GOD WHAT A BAND ... SO MUCH TALLENT THOSE DAYS...

And for the new : "the last rebel, devil in a bottle, tomorrow's goodbye, red white and blue, Lucky man, gifted hands" You know all the songs are fantastics and my list is not complete

  • @SimpleMan44 Skynyrd rocks that is all and all their songs are great.

Pretty much all of them :)

  • @SimpleMan44 Get all their Original Albums.

Pronounced Lynyrd Skynyrd, Second Helping, Nuthin' Fancy, Gimme Back My Bullets, Street Survivors. These are the originals before Ronnie Van Zant and other band members were killed in the plane crash in Mississippi in 1977. There are some great compilations of work not published, but any new album by the band from the 80's to present is not the same without lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and guitarist/singer Steve Gaines. They will be missed.

  • @SimpleMan44 You forgot Curtis Lowe, and Four walls of Raiford! lol

  • @SimpleMan44

FUCK NO!! Dont tell him to lisen to that rip off Lynyrd Skynyrd. Skynyrd was anything from 1970-1977.

  • @Raksmey89 Start with Simple Man, Ballad of Curtis Loew, Down South Jukin, 4 walls of raiford, Needle and the Spoon, That Smell, Don't ask me no questions, Aint no good life, T for Texas and Gimme three steps, If you don't like those, you wont like the rest, if you like them you can pick just about any original Skynyrd song and you will like what you hear.

  • @Raksmey89 Any and All, just start buying anything u can find on cd/tape/dvd/vinyl etc..... You wont be disappointed

  • @Raksmey89 ALL OF THEM!!!

  • @Raksmey89 The ones I really like are "I know a little" and "That Smell". I play guitar and try learning these songs - I know a little is a fast blues song and a challenge for me play. That Smell - dark in nature - but has a great guitar solos and vocals. Great Band!

  • @Raksmey89 Im 47 and skynyrd has ben my favorite band from back around 76 a year or so before the plane crash and they have always ben blessed with great talent and a lot of history through the years. from the beginning to currant. you cant go wrong with any album old or currant! and dont forget they were rossington collins band and a few others for a wile after the crash. My friend if you are just finding out about groop tere is a hell of a lot to learn. But they are truly a all american band

  • @Raksmey89 all of them.......take in the entire body of work and listen to the progression of a band....from the raw to the polished....and what would have been.....

  • @Raksmey89 You can start with the first two albums ("pronounced 'leh-'nérd'skin-'nérd" and "second helping") in which you can find almost all the well-known Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. It's amazing how good these guys where even from the very beggining.

  • @Raksmey89 THEY ARE ALL GOOD

  • @Raksmey89 Get the albums One More From The Road, Nuthin Fancy, Second Helping, Pronounced, Gimmie Back My Bullets, and Street Survivors. Those are all original Skynyrd albums with Ronnie. Real Skynyrd.

  • @Raksmey89 The Ballad of Curtis Loew. Amazing music. Also Honky Tonk Night Time Man. I Aint the One. Mississipi Kid, Thing Going On, Call me the Breeze, Aint no Good Life, I Never Dreamed, I Know a Little, One More Time, Every Mothers Son, Searchin and of course Freebird and Simple Man.

  • @Raksmey89 Yeah, sounds like you might already have their first two albums, which are the best in my opinion. The albums are "Pronounced Leh-nerd Skin-nerd" and "Second helpings".

  • @NewDirection4us Make that "Second Helping" with no "s' on the end. All the original stuff is excellent!

  • @Raksmey89 there is also my favorite I Know a Little with the best intro in the whole world

  • @Raksmey89 get all their original albums, they only had 4 studio plus the live one more from the road

  • @Raksmey89 needle and spoon

  • @Raksmey89

Anything from the original band is good. From 1974 - 1977.

  • @kennywayne99 1971-1977

  • you run around solo is kick ass

  • I agree. Skynyrd was at its best after Steve joined the band.

  • arent you the racist anti little cutemexican children freakazoid. im embarrassed to even like lynard would be ashamed. tisk tisk.

  • ....do you swallow?

  • yeah..... Ronnie never died... he just joined a different band.......

  • As our favorite Van Zandt used to say...."toin it up"..

And you know what I love the most..is that kids today are just FLOORED when they hear this..it inspires them..keep on rocking the hands of Al, Steve Ronnie, Cassie, BP, Leon..all stll here, reaching forward to us, holding us all up to the light...so lucky to have been alive when they were young..going directly to the "part 2" part of this. See you there.. kiss yourself once for me, Simpleman44, This is OUTSTANDING.

  • where in the heck did you find "Jacksonville Man" #4? Absolutely great superb stuff.

  • @b26com

That lead is from the song Honky Tonk Night Time Man from the Street Survivors album. It's a Merle Haggard cover. They did a great job on that tune. Check out Merle's version on youtube, he even gives them credit.

  • That's the real deal there! Thanks!

merle haggard honky tonk night time man

    watch?v=fhmsdls97i8

  • @6Gypsy6Raquel6

Yes but is not Gary playing the solo it's Steve Gaines

  • the steve gaines sweet home solo is alsome!!! I love that unique sound

  • That solo at 2:25 has Steve Gaines written all over it .. that is not Gary Rossington

  • You are correct friend.

  • Seen them in concert over 25 times. My favorite memory was in the Summer of '77 before the plane went down. They played the Aladin Hotel and Casino in LV. After the concert, myself, Ronnie and Billy Powell were playing Black Jack at the same table. After shootin' the shit and having a time. We tried to go into the Casino lounge and do some more partying. But the host wouldn't allow the guys and me in. I told the host, do you know who these guys are? He said yeah...that's why they can't come in.

  • The 5th solo in "You got that right" features Steve AND Allen , together.

  • Isn't that Ed soloing in "am I losin'"??

  • Jacksonville kid(aka Honkytonk Night Time Man) is Steve Gaines, not gary rossington.. and how come there isnt any Ed King?

  • Yeah - Honky Tonk Night Time Man solo (2:25) is still mind boggling

  • Are you sure that is Steve's lead on "Got That Right" an not A.C. ?

  • Yeah Storm. Gaines actually wrote "You Got that Right" and "I Know A Little" prior to joining the band.

  • 4 greatest guitarists off all time...Gary is my favorite though.

  • Well Ed told me that he did the lead on Am I Losin and thats why it is also so outstanding...he also in honor of 3 other famous southern rock lead players played each part specially for them ...if it wasn't for Ed King Skynyrd would not have been as big as they were...that guy added alot to that band and never got credit for what he did...Ed King deserves as much respect as anyone else in the band.. most of the more famous hits are written by/with Ed King...

  • This is one of the most memorable guitar arraingments of all time, and I'm talking about the guitar work on Am I Losin. I can listen to this all day (and) everyday and it never (&$@$&*) gets old. This "stuff" is here to stay.

  • @TonyBeazley I think he didn't / doesn't get much credit b/c he left the band. I agree though he deserves much more credit, in one Skynyrd book Gene Odom says that Ed wrote lots of riffs for many songs and he did give them lots. He did his part in the band. In another ideo everybody said "fuck gary and johnny for not letting Ed or Jojo or anybody else in the band", but why Say that ya know? Gary is an original and a badass guitarist

  • @TonyBeazley Also its a shame he didnt give Ed the credit he deserved, but Gary has talent and that CANNOT be taken from him. And hey, every skynyrd fan knows that Ed deserved much more credit, its not like NOBODY knows of Ed's contribution so thats good!

  • @TonyBeazley you are completely right, my friend. Always looked up to him!

  • @TonyBeazley Ya cant take one from the other, its all the seperate peices make the whole

  • @TonyBeazley Ed's contribution to the band is often overlooked but not by those of us that "know" Skynyrd and who made them so special. Ed is a killer guitarist and writer!!!!

  • @TonyBeazley I agree with you on that T My husband and I have been fans forever.

Its a shame that this happens with many bands. But the true fans are aware. All of the band members should be recognized for there contributions at all times. NUFF SAID

  • Allen Collins was the shit,,end of story.......rip

  • is you got that right really steve gaines?

  • who did the solo for needle and the spoon? thanks

  • Allen Collins

  • how many other bands have 4 guys that can play that damn good. simply ridiculous.

  • right on man, my favorite is by far Am I Losin' as well.

  • STEVE GAINES IS OFF THE CHAIN!!!!!!!SIMPLY GREAT Ed KING VERY GREAT AS WELL

  • Ed a true master, OH my how good, unrateable , his tone is unreal also he has a way of letting a lead breath with a touch of harmony that is just , well unmatched

  • Ed King said on his website that he played this solo on a Gibson SG with the front pickup and the tone control turned all the way down. What a sound.

  • Am I Losin' Is ED KING!

  • That is Ed kings solo on Am I Losin.

  • True and thats my favorite!!!!

  • Greatest ever!

  • Damn...so much talent in one band....

  • Did I miss the great "Comin Home" solo on this montage?

  • hey does anyone know what the name of a song of LS. that goes "i just wanna (something) to the things i dooooo" and " i just wanna write my music"

  • oh its a real difficult question !! With Ronnie?

  • oh no i found it already =). i love that song its called need all my friends.

  • where is the Free bird solo

  • first song is "am i losin" - ed king !

  • steve gaines is a monster

  • I'm pretty sure the first song...its "am i losin" ....anyways I'm pretty sure that's Ed King's solo, its just amazing...should have played the whole thing.

  • i luv s gaines solo on SHA AND THEN SOMEOME ELSE KICKS IN THATS WHAT I LUV ABOUT LS THEIR GUITAR WORK IS UNBELIEVABLE.

  • this photo is in THE UK ON 8-2176 THEY OPEN UP FOR THE STONES -I HAVE SOME OF ON BL BUT ON LP

  • i love that you run around solo

  • I'm pretty sure that was Ed King playing that solo.

  • magnificent

  • honky tonk night time man, or "jacksonville kid's" solo is played by Steve Gaines.

  • yeah that sounds to flashy to be one of gary's solos

  • spot on dude

  • for a start when did gary ever play a strat /not that i know of not like that at least

  • and for the record... Gary was/is my favorite. But that's like saying I like draft beer better than bottle beer... I ain't complaining either way.

  • i agree. all of the guitar players were unique.

  • weighin in on the "who's best" bit. it's very unfair. IMO no other band's guitarists have ever meshed and played off each other as well as Gary Allen Ed and Steve. That said, during the 2-guitar days of '75 they really seem to be lacking "something" (Ed's quackin' strat fills;-) that reappeared with Steve in '76 on "live". Ed and Steve both were pure virtuosos IMO- technically incredible and versatile. Allen was a southern shredder, and sorry- all respect to Rev Billy, Gary OWNS pinch harmonics

  • Unfortunately the only time I saw Skynyrd was during the 2-guitar days. As much as I liked their records I was unimpressed with the show.

They opened for the Faces who wouldn't win any awards for sobriety either.

  • thanks for the video .. one thing though, why did you rape the sweet home alabama solo ..

  • yeah you right

  • i think thats ed king on am i losin solo..

  • ED KING on "Workin' for the mca"...kik-ass solo!

  • Besides Steve Gaines´ marvellous playing on Street Survivors, my favourite Skynyrd solo is the end solo on "The Neeedle And the Spoon" played by Allen Collins. Unfortunately the record company has edited out much of that solo on recent editions of the song. That´s like cutting off a piece of a Picasso painting, IMO.

  • The needle and the spoon's solo which I prefer was played during the concert : Live in Cardiff The Unreleased KBFH Show 1975. AWESOME ^^

  • can you link me to a video with the full version because i've always loved that solo too but idk if my version is cut off, it doesn't seem like it, but he's still playing when it fades out?

  • Comment removed

  • Actually you most likely have a version of the song with the entire solo on it. I incorrectly wrote that the record company had "edited out" the end solo, which isn´t the case. What I meant to say was that it fades out at the end which wasn´t the case on the original LP version of the song which I used to own.

  • Dude, that's Steve Gaines on Jacksonville Kid (Honky Tonk Nightime Man)
