I *can* imagine a Spanish colony in dover. I wouldn't like it if the situation was reversed. But do you really think Spain would give the colony to Britain? Especially if that colony was in a strategic location and had Spanish people living there? I don't.

Also if Britain gave Gibraltar to keep the friendship, the Spanish would say "the English go home as cowards! We win!" If we make a kind gesture we look like losers. We can't win.
