I know this was a tribute to her friend but am I the only one that thinks this song is also about her first miscarriage? "And I'm just having thoughts, said I'm just having thoughts, having thoughts, having Marianne." Provided this was after the first of course. I know they occurred around this era, but I have no idea if the first would be before here.

Imo this is one of her "purest" songs, if that makes any sense. Reading the story behind it, it's a really poignant lament and tribute to someone from her childhood. It's rare for an adult of the age she was when she wrote this to still carry such strong and warm feelings about someone they knew when they were so young. Most people just discard those things as the illusory trappings of youth or something.
