  • Jeeze slow down speed demon.

  • much too fast

  • i can play that on sax and that is waaaayyyyyyyy too fast

  • Rockabilly version of Cantaloup Island, wow!

  • can u play the pink panther theme song?

  • Great job, I love this song and you played it Soo well.

  • Do you play also the guitar ?

  • no entiendo tu fraseo y tu tempo....i don't like....i don't feel nothing....lack music. are just notes ... your words are dirty, I do not understand...sorry it 's my opinion...

  • great fingers

  • To all who hate, post a video response of you playing this better.

  • If this is Herbie I´m Jaco Pastorius!

  • @MrMarkus748 DAMN! That's a really good insult.

  • Cool. :-)

  • That sucks

  • You just need some slap bass or drums backin' you up! Consider laying the rhythm back a little so it doesn't sound anticipated; Very good, However!

  • nice song but btw, your tripod is dusty

  • hey how much music harmony have u studied to be able to improvise so nicely?

  • Yeah I'd say it's definitely good. Like an expose of your talent and abilities. But if I was at a show I'd definitely say stop forcing it so much. But you said you were 14, no biggie at all. You're probably a freaking badass by now. Tight!

  • VERY GOOD!!! :)

  • nice one

  • So yeah... um, you're good, damn hahahah

  • man, where did you learn the piano? youre really good!!!, you have a nice set of keyboards, you have a nice style, you probably have studies your ass off and thats good..14 here? man at 14 i was still doing boring sonatinas :\ anyway youre awesome bro, keep it up

  • rushin'.. as in nationality?

  • player is so poor in left hand skill

  • ya it was kind of fast and could be slightly more smingy, but the improve i think definitely equals it out. great stuff.

  • LMAO. retarded

  • You're missing the point, dude! Put some swing and soul into it, instead of this staccato rushin' misery...

  • Have to play this in 7th grade jazz band, and hell, its hard trust me.

  • @Darksonic1928 this song is so easy. Just lay back on the chords.

  • How old are you and how many years have you been playing piano?

  • @Darksonic1928 does not matter!!

  • @linn1000 Definitely rushin'.

  • still needs more swing versus just playing straight notes. and whats wrong with your fingers??? :O

  • theres nothing wrong with his fingers . he's got an awesome hitch hikers thumb haha

    anyways , awesome job !

  • good stuff =)

  • My head exploded, you are the keeper of the funk.

  • Hey man , It's not so so bad, i mean it is still something hard to play, but , I don't feel anything, it is in lack of rythm and depth.

Maybe the you should voice a little differently, or play it differently, Herbie plays a lot of his chords in blocks. So try blocking you chords smoothly in rythm and jam on the good parts

  • wow, no feel at all.

  • Whitest interpretation ever!

  • just virtuosism....

  • Sweet! Some real killer riffs.

    Tempo shmempo!

    A lot of wierd comments.

What does spelling have to do with music?

    Unless you're spelling out chords?

  • sick piano solo, especially at 14

  • Jazz was never meant to have rules anyway. Nice jammin'

I wish I had mad piano skills. I look forward to more vids.

  • Leave the guy alone, we all have different tastes some you like some you don't. He has pointed out his timings etc.....

  • ohhh sorry for the thank you!! I've a bad english so I didn't understood your sentence

but now I understand and I can say what I think about... ^^

yes it's really great to play this song with my flute!! I love it!!!

    ohhh!!! I love flautists!!!

  • its jazz so chill and shut the fuck you " tempo is changin" fuckaz, music in its diferent ways ;)

  • Cool but the tempo changes too much, It's confusing ^^

  • Keep up the good job, but concentrate on your tempo - it sounds like you're stressing over something. :)

  • Very good feeling! Awesome! 5*

  • very good("-.-")

  • very good

  • sehr sehr schön aber das tempo versaut alles

n paar noten hin und einlauf mal und wieder mal ein arkkord gefällt mir is aber scheiße wenn man sich verspielt und das tempo nicht hält

  • very nice =]

  • Dude what a piano..

  • this is soooo great! 5/5

  • this is so great!! I play flute and I play this song too =) I'm lovin it!! (sorry for my english, i'm a french girl ^^)

  • french girls are amazing

  • lol thank you ^^

  • I found some music somewhere or other- it's a great song to play on the flute isn't it. I'm a flautist too ;)

  • you're rushing like a mug. keep it in the pocket. its one thing to be able to get all the notes out, its another to be able to play it. Herbie Hancock was a king of cool. Keep that in mind while you're playing the tune.

  • Herbie IS a king of cool, in my opinion.

  • Really good!

    nice tripod, btw

  • i hate when the tempo vary :P

  • hes a good pianist though.

  • Yeah ofc ! But when he is so good he should be able to hold the tempo .

  • Why, sunderling? Unfortunately I always hold the tempo with my sequencer because I can't play by hand!

  • don't be listening to any delta blues then, They hadn't really heard of tempo or even time signatures lol, just tap your foot at a constantly varying paces with the occasional missed and added beat, and your halfway there to becoming a blues man.

  • we're doing this song in our jazz band at school

  • That was sick. Do you have sheet music to do that?

  • that was freaking good. Nice JOB keep it up

  • for how long are you playing?

do you have sheets to that? ;>

  • try less notes in the right hand;)

  • the people i most respect is drummers and pianist, cuz they are always doing something with both hands, and they are usually different, you my friend, i respect.

i play sax, to this music =)

  • professional player, been playing for a good 40 odd years, mastered all four sax, play abit of violin and guitar.

yes i am a stupid, silly boy.

you obviousaly dont know bugger all about music or any thing that goes on in it!!

  • I think my hands also tend to do two different things while playing guitar. Can't be too sure though.

  • Do you guys honestly not see what he's saying? Yes with any instrument you do two completely different things, but those two things relate to each other, there's no actual independance involved. With piano or drums, independance and co-ordination is a much bigger thing, because although the essential hand movement is the same, you're playing a much thicker texture. Like Tommy Emmanuel does with guitar, kinda.

  • I see what he's saying, I don't think that makes drums or piano and more difficult. It just makes them different.

  • I think it's unfair to belittle any one instrument. Piano and drums are no harder to master than a guitar or a trumpet. Every instrument has its own technique.

  • what about the triangle?

  • ogfeen. were you deprived of music lessons as a child? are you... musically retarded?

what hicky is saying is that with the piano what is happening with the left and right hands doesn't have to be directly related:

  • ps. Learn to spell.

  • in the right hand you could be wacking out a riff or tune...

...and in the left you could be providing rythmical and chordal backing - filling in the gaps, if you like.

however... with an instrument such as the sax (i play tenor, alto and soprano) you tend to play a tune or riff, one note at any one time. you can't generally harmonise with yourself (unless you're into harmonics).

his point was valid. yours wasn't.

you are both shit and stupid.

    period.

  • Does a conductor not do 2 different things with his hands? Can a guitar player not play accompaniment and melody at once? Can a violin player not emphasise a rhythm with his bow while playing melody or indeed cords or even pizzicato with left while bowing a note? Can an accordion player not create a accompaniment with his left hand as well as creating a rhythm and emphasis with the bellows? This list goes on and on jazzfag111

  • You really are an angry little man, aren't you :D

Abusive, facetious and apparently incapable of communicating without your every third word being an expletive.

I was 14 when I posted this . Im still in full time education, but play regular gigs with my jazz quartet at a healthy £200 and hour. I have music on Itunes with my other group, and have dealings with Sony BMG.

Im not stupid, but I do have a problem with pedantic little men who sit around poking abuse at people they don't know.

  • @jazzpianist111 you're kind of a douche. you are a pro at piano though, i wish i could do improv like you can.

  • @ogfeen

you know this debate is useless cause they gonna swear and you gonna swear some more. im only gonna say this. you ONLY have the right to talk if you post a video of this same song where you play same or better. otherwise shut the hell up, cause many talk theory and noone does shit!

  • of course what's happening in the left hand doesn't have to be related to what's happening in the right hand, they're already related in the chromatic scale LOL

  • @jazzpianist111 lol guys chill u know what u know u dont have to prove anything

  • you got mad skills

  • Your pretty talented

  • Hey, it is fun to listen!

But no fun to watch - waaaaah - my fingers get aching while watching you ^^

  • i had to play this with my jazz camp band thingy but with violin, sax, cello, bass and drums it sounded awesome

  • white boy disease?

  • slow down g

  • o.O No sence of rithm , bad hand position , you play some nothes that are not evan in the key ..... duno I would say work in progress.......

  • who cares about hand position. Some of the best artists some the world have "bad hand position" All that matters is the sound. And despite the dodgey tempo the sound is great.

  • cheers buddy :P

  • Ur good but some of your tempo's a bit dodgey. I couldn't play that on keyboard. But i love playing it on my saxophone. Well done9.5/10

  • nice improv, but watch the tempo!

  • brendan guerrier is gay

  • yo man dont listen to everyone else youre the best this rules so much!

  • i bet your a virgin ... dacari

  • Watch out your hand position cause in a couple of years you'll have serious problems for playing this instrument. And by the way,buy a new metronome.urgent!Thanks,J.G.

  • watch the tempo!

  • you're getting way too ahead of yourself and it makes you sound like you suck at playing the piano, which you don't. knock off all the arpeggios , take a valium, and think in a more melodic fashion.

  • hey, i'm no expert, but i think you should slow down a bit the tempo, I belive this theme sounds "artificial" in some way when hurried. anyway, just an opinion (maybe it's justa a mather of taste)

  • Dude, nice music, but your hands... You won't be able to play forever this way, it has to hurt a lot... Try to relax, whole arm (shoulder to fingers) should be almost "disengaged" :), if you know what i mean.

  • I am a great fan of jazz, and it's wonderful to hear someone play who seems to have just as much of a passion for it!

    :-) Keep at it!

  • hi im pam from belgium

i like th way you play and im a great fan of h hancock

i cannot find music sheets of him

    could u help me?

    thk u

  • do you have sibelius software?

  • hi

i dont have that software and i never heard about it.

can you explain me what it is please

    thank you so much

  • It is music notation software. You use it to write music on the computer.

  • hi

you put the music and the software make a music sheet?

  • yes, that right. you put midi files into it.

  • did you made the music sheets of h hancock like that?

because i never heard 'watermelon man' played in solo piano.

does that software separete all the instuments?

    thank you

  • Yes it does. Look it up on Google.

  • good, but you kinda sped up

  • I liked this alot... You have alot of talent there mate, beautiful video.

  • slow down!

its timings off, just try to get in the groove, but not bad

better than i could do anyday

  • You are taented -But:Take your time, get the groove

  • You play very good :D

I play also Watermelon Man but in accompaniment version

  • Thanks :)

  • a few minor errors, too quick and timings off but your improvising so thats inevitable

    great over all though

lots better than i can play this song

  • not bad, but have to work on your timing

  • Cool!

    That is pretty nice)

    I liked it)

  • this video was great, but would be more visibly pleasing if u flipped it to not be upside down

  • interesting camera angle.

  • holy c*** dat well gud. wat grade r u on piano i grade 6

  • Grade A Pastureized.

  • Hi, pleas have you got note ??? no 0riginal but this .... Thank you

  • Hey! I can play this, too! But not as splendid as you do! Super!!

  • You are clearly talented and have a flair for improv.

There was some things going on with the tempo that I can't properly atriculate.

If you own a metronome, I'd suggest playing this against it some time.

I tried playing a song against one before and ended up realizing that I tended to speed up and slow down without even noticing.

Otherwise, I think you're extremely good, with speed, dexterity and poise.

    Keep em coming!

  • lol: atriculate = articulate ;)

  • And Creative!!! I think that you are playing with your own figures, but... Left hand; Move it. I think that you have two Right hands and half left hand. But sorry this is just my own point of view.

  • (As a continuation of th first comment...) Try listening a band with a piano player that just plays 1 3 5 7 of EVERY chord in that order. It sounds terrible. So make more of the mastery of those chords, just do it with the hand that people aren't exactly riveted to.

  • well I liked it! The soloing was superb. I wish I could do something lik that without a bassist. I wonder if you've listened to the redone version on herbie's album headhunters. It's quite a bit freer with the tempo, uses some more interesting chords. Your right hand is just great. But your left is the one you wanna work on more. (A side note, the grace notes from the Ab/B to the A/C interrupted the flow of the otherwise smooth jazzy music.) But the comping is just as important as the melody!

  • Well played. And I like the straight-on "tutorial" view of the keys (though "upside-down" and a little impersonal, just seeing your hands and legs). I'd like to hear your trio. Any plans to video them or post the audio online (perhaps myspace or with blank video on youtube)?

  • Please feel free to comment... I can also send MP3s of my jazz trio to those who want them!

  • hey

    very kl ;)
