  • i was screaming explorer 1 the whole time..

  • Yale graduate is "dumber" than a 5th grader. wow

  • I'm sure he could cover himself saying "Siri what was the first satellite put into orbit by the US?" with a cough.

  • lol im a sophomore in HS and i dont even know this

  • Dora the satellite

  • wow, I learned this in 8th grade and I live in europe so I know that americans couldn't know this in 5th grade.

  • The question should have been "the name of the first satellite put in orbit". Not everyone was raised in the US, so not everyone knows that specific answer.

    He got Sputnik right.....

  • here's a question: WHY THE F SHOULD ONE BUTTER TO REMEMBER THE FIRST AMERICAN SATELLITE? the only thing that matters is the name of the first artificial satellite, and that is Sputnik. NOTHING ELSE DESERVES TO BE MEMORIZED. why don't they ask what was the name of the first Chinese satellite? :) :)

  • This is an 11th Grade question they feature in Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader.

  • "RIGHT NOW on Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader, RIGHT NOW."

Yes, sir, I get it. Right now.

  • damn I didn't know the last 2

  • Explooooorrrerrrr! Noooooooo!

  • I got an a+ in history, math, English and geography back in 5th grade and I didn't get 1 million dollars.

  • 2:14 worth one million F..ers

  • 2:19 epic face

  • I learned this last year as junior in U.S History when we were in the Cold War. A fifth grader is taught this?!

  • @netweit3 It depends the state you live in, and then the school district, and if you are taking, advance classes meaning normal, out side of usa. If you are slow and are taking basic high school classes you are considard to be behind, CHINA and MEXICO and some of the INTL. are more ahead, in studies.

  • @Pierre4452 Yea I've been taking honors... I mean normal. Some still seem pretty difficult though for being 5th grade but as you said, its probably because we are behind where we live or something.

  • Mercury was my first instinct too. I would have had the same performance as him (EXACTLY the same performance - I even had January 20th in my mind, but wasn't sure, so I paused and looked at Wikipedia, just as he looked at the classmate).... :(

  • I learned this in 5th grade by reading a book :D

  • NOOOOOO!! I was really rooting for him too =(

  • That question isn't about "smarts." It's about recalling information.

  • I wasn't 100% sure but I would have said Explorer. If I were to name the first satellite, I'd name it Explorer, not Mercury, duh. :P

  • Show me 1 fifth grader who actually know this

  • @yankees032778

idk if thet know they might know this :/

  • @yankees032778

idk if they know this they might know this

  • @yankees032778 That's why the topic was 10th grade Astronomy

  • @yankees032778 i am 5th grader and i knew
