This song is written by Bill Danoff and was fist released on John Denver's "Poems, Prayers and Promises in 1971. John has a better version on the 1995 "The Wildlife Consert" in my opinion. However, I like Merle Haggard's version too.
I can remember my wife and I watching this back in the 70's every Sunday night. I bought the DVD last year and we watched it again. It was just as good as it was 30some years ago. I always related to this because my mother was French Canadian and my father was Scotch.
I always feel passionate and with admiration for the north-american native. I watched the series when it came out, then a rerun and now i was happy to find it back again in my local library. It brings me "back to basics". I suppose we should all see it again every now and then. So we remember.
Dutchgirliepetra has uploaded the whole series. It's mind blowingly amazing. I'm actually Aussie but I found myself identifying with many of the characters in this epic. Follows the book quite closely as well.
I agree . I watch it every year and was thankful when it came out on DVD. Nothing has come close since this movie about the west and all the different lives that it took to make it what it is today...AMERICA
I'm glad that Merle sang "I guess he'd Rather Be in Colorado" and he did a good job, but no one sang it better than John Denver. It was written by John's dear friend Bill Danoff who co-wrote "Take Me Home Country Roads" (John Denver helped finish the lyrics). Bill Danoff also wrote "Afternoon Delight", "Potter's Wheel" and many other wonderful songs.
this mini series is great my family and i watched this when it was on tv and we recently bought a set of new dvds on ebay for 40$ we watched dvd after dvd... it was absolutly awesome
Centennial has to be one of the best mini series ever aired on TV. The story was absolutely brilliant, and I love the intertwining stories of the characters over the years. Why don't you see great stuff like this on TV anymore??
Centennial was and remains my favorite mini series of all times... I never fail to cry at this scene .. I must have watched this a 100 times... all 12 parts.. :)
saw it too when i was i child and still remember. it's a shame that they don't release pal-versions of good movies/series like this. there is still no pal release of "breaking away" etc.
i'm looking for a film i used to watch when i was kid in some german tv channel (prosieben, rtl or other)... i can't remember the name.. it was comedy kinda western series with blond guy and fat dark haired guy fighting everytime. Anyone knows what i'm about??
Best...mini-series...ever. :) Pre-ordered the DVD as soon as I found out it was finally getting issued on DVD this year. I'm so glad I have this in my house on DVD now.
A great epic novel and one of the great TV series of all time. While I have the entire series on VHS - I really hope they will release it on DVD someday.
I don't know if it is on any of Merle's albums, blbliothecamedia2. Merle Haggard played Cisco Calendar in Centennial, and he probably sang this song especially for the tv series.
I am originally came from the South, and currently live in the West. And I have no problems to say that the American West is a beautiful, beautiful land, full of interesting things, places and awesome people. I've been through Colorado and it is, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful places on God's green earth. God bless the American West!
excellent clip from a top mini series, i just wish the makers would bring this out on dvd.I had to buy a brand new video set that they only ever released in the USA and converted the lot onto 12 discs. The quality is awesome. If any other deprived fans of the series out there would like a set then get in touch sgmccall at aol dot com
Geweldig om dit weer te zien. Goede herinneringen aan een prachtige serie. Haggard zingt ook prachtig. Wie heeft deze serie eigenlijk op dvd? Ik zou het graag nog eens terugzien.
What a wonderfull ending to a great miniseries. Although I'm not a huge fan of this whole movie but, this was my grandmother's favorite movie to watch and now my aunt has this series. Thanks again. :)

@wolf4555 I agree. I just purchased this set on DVD. Had it on VHS. I sold the VHS tapes. I love it. They
don't make mini series anymore and I can't figure out why. David Jannsen passed away not to long after. He
was a great narrator.

@TheCopper05 Well, Spielberg produced 'Into the West' a few years ago, although I don't find that half as good as 'Centennial'.
